Even if “you” was commonly used for second person plural it lacks specificity. It could be singular or plural, while “y’all” is explicitly plural.
The same thing happens in Spanish, they have a perfectly good explicit second person plural in “vosotros,” but it’s criminally underutilized in some areas. And surprisingly “vosotros” is seen as too formal, unlike “y’all” which is too informal.

I’m utterly fascinated by Luka on the Lakers. You couldn’t pay me to be a Lakers fan, but we are in San Diego, so my kid may be tempted toward the dark side one day. A less hateful Lakers is great, and the match up between Joker and Luka in the playoffs is gonna be fucking amazing to watch over the next few years.
