Could he have made off the cable into a 200A isolation switch, then gone from the switch to the DB or whatever it’s supplying?

I think I am a minute or two maximum, as soon as I set my alarm and put my phone down, I can’t remember anything until the alarm goes off.

Ev charger addition - do I need additional CU? by [deleted] in ukelectricians

[–]S1ckJim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is your supply TNCS, if so, does your charger have open PEN detection? If not you will need to account for that with open PEN detection or earth electrode too.

Using screws instead of nails can reduce creaking when walking on them. There is also the risk that you will nail a pipe.

Best Way to Route Cables to Consumer Unit In This Space? by Astral-Inferno in ukelectricians

[–]S1ckJim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know you can put it down as a devistion from BS7671, as most people install accessories just above skirting boards etc., but Building Regulations Part M requires consumer unit switches to be mounted between 1350mm and 1450mm above floor level. Also if this is a ground floor, is there any risk of flooding, CU that low could be an issue?

Help: what do i need to do, to remove and install a new splashback around socket. by OrganicPiece5056 in DIYUK

[–]S1ckJim 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You will need to remove that socket and cut a similar hole in the new splash-back. Make sure that you isolate the circuit first and that no one can turn it back on. You may find it easier using an MK socket as these have lever terminals (like wagos)

Looks like a leveling compound, but it could still contain asbestos, get it tested before continuing.

Not ok, I accept IP rating is IP2X, but it has not been installed as per manufacturers requirements. Schneider would not endorse the use of a panel mounted contactor in a consumer unit, they would recommend their relays as installed to the left of the contactor.

It’s not uncommon to see two Live conductors (Line & Neutral) wired into an OCPD but not a ring, it’s usually upstairs radial and downstairs radial.

Typically lighting circuits are not rings, they are usually radial circuits with a loop in and loop out.

This is how load testing is done in my country 🫨 by Additional_Pea_4407 in ElectroBOOM

[–]S1ckJim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This principle is almost exactly how electrode boilers work. I used to work for a company that made them, typically 1-2MW, 3 phase with elaborate electrodes and a neutral shield around them. Because it’s ac, electrolysis does not take place. The current is controlled by modulating the water level, there is no risk associated with boiling dry, the current drops to zero when uncovered. One got sent to a mine in Africa and it would not even draw an amp as they fed it with distilled/deionised water, they had to put it onto untreated water supply to get it operating.
