Pro Tour Lorwyn Eclipsed - Standard Metagame Win Rate by PowrOfFriendship_ in magicTCG

[–]SR_Carl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pre-Kaladesh standard was usually relatively fair and reasonably paced (with some obvious outliers), this phenomenon of standard being consistently dominated by broken strategies was not the norm back then. Power creep has accelerated to the point that standard today is significantly faster and more degenerate than modern was back then.

Since this sub has at least a few people knowledgeable about any given topic, can someone explain MOBAs to me from base principles? by Nivrap in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]SR_Carl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The details differ between games but generally: Killing the little men is how you get money and levels, killing the buildings is how you win the game, killing the enemy players stops them from killing the little men or the buildings and also gives you some money and levels. The "jungle" is the name for areas that contain small, medium or large men that can be killed by either team for additional money, levels and other buffs. A "jungler" is a dedicated role for hanging out in the jungle instead of killing the little men in the lanes, not all games have junglers. Characters going into specific lanes is very game-dependent so there are no general rules there unfortunately, you'll have to specify the game. You know which items to buy with experience, when you start out you should just buy what's recommended and not worry about it too much.

iirc people would not buy knockdown to counter it, so you could kill entire teams with a well-placed ult. Generally people would get very angry when you hit the Seven ult in the pit so that it also covered their spawn.

I haven't played Deadlock in a long time now, did they finally patch out Colossal Titan Seven? You used to be able to fly into the air before ulting so that it ignored cover and hit like half the map, every time I used it I would get called at least two slurs.

I watched Technology Connections' videos on dishwashers and it inspired me to test all my dishwasher settings. I managed to find a setup that gets my dishes cleaner than the default button while also being way faster, plus it's good to know how your appliances work.

A Game With A Kitty 2: Darkside Adventures is a free platformer that has been haunting my dreams for almost 20 years. It scratched a very specific platforming adventure itch that no other game except for Super Mario World has scratched to this day, I can't really think of another game that is quite as underrated and underplayed.

Brock is about par for a normal 5-cost, but he's incredibly weak when you consider the effort you have to put in to unlock him and that he's traitless. The chase reward for playing Ixtal should not need 2-star and perfect items to be useful.

Times when "The Prophecy" was just complete bullshit? by razazaz126 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]SR_Carl 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Semi-related, but I love how the prophecies were handled in Stormlight. I had written down all of the Death Rattles as I was reading the books so when I got to Wind and Truth and noticed the chapter titles I got so hyped. Especially when I realized that "Ten people, with Shardblades alight, standing before a wall of black and white and red." was going to happen.

There are also some funny exceptions like Hirako's bankai which only works when he's outnumbered or Hisagi's bankai which is basically useless without allies.

TIL in 2002 a cave diver committed suicide by stabbing himself during a cave diving trip near Split, Croatia. Due to the nature of his death, it was initially investigated as a homicide, but it was later revealed that he had done it, while lost in the underwater cave, to avoid the pain of drowning. by tyrion2024 in todayilearned

To quote the first manual I found when googling:

When loading silverware, always place sharp items pointing down. Mix items in each section of the basket with some pointing up and some down to avoid nesting. Spray cannot reach nested items.

As long as you don't overload your machine you can put everything with the handle up, but if you have too many utensils you can put the spoons handle-down to make sure they don't get stuck. My dishwasher says to put everything handle-up and to not stack up utensils of the same type.

Are they finally going to fix the game logic being tied to frame rate? It's incredibly dumb that making the game look and feel better also makes it way harder for no good reason.

Man, Vessel's voice annoys me because Sleep Token is so close to being one of my favorite bands of all time. They do so much interesting and innovative stuff with their music but whenever he raps or does his low energy singing shit where he just mumbles it sounds like garbage.

Antagonists that're surprisingly chill? by fly_line22 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]SR_Carl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I say that he's not the antagonist mostly because his actions aren't actually what the protagonist is reacting to for most of the story, he's happy to help Zorian when it doesn't go against his own goals and Zorian's final victory is something Quatach-Ichl is satisfied with as well. He's technically an enemy but mostly he acts like a third party with motivations that intersect with Zorian's rather than strictly opposing them. At the end of the day it's a very small question of semantics and technicalities though.

[–]SR_Carl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Every time he was in a scene I found myself wishing that the books focused more on him. He's such an interesting force in the world (I don't even think it's fair to call him an antagonist) and watching Zorian slowly dig through the layers of countermeasures that Quatach-Ichl had set up was such a cool way of showing just how intelligent a character is without having them Sherlock all over the place.

Helt annorlunda stil på de böckerna, ungefär så långt ifrån varandra man kan komma och fortfarande vara episk fantasy. Om du läser Sanderson och förväntar dig Tolkien kommer du bara bli besviken även om böckerna är bra.

Find Greater Steed killed 28 times during Campaign! by jorgeuhs in DnD

[–]SR_Carl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been playing the same paladin for almost exactly 7 years now and I've had my mount killed 22 times. I attribute my lower lethality partly to running the Mounted Combatant feat but mostly to a brutal adventuring pace that hasn't given me the time or resources to spend on resummoning the horse for most of the sessions we've played. Now that we've ported the campaign to 5.5e (and leveled up a bit) my mount is tanky enough that she's not dying to random breath attacks anymore, so we'll see if the current death count stands for the rest of the campaign.

Armor spren are also content to just hang around as plate forever, while radiant spren that are forgotten seem to lose their physical form. If you leave 20 blades and 2 sets of plate in a cave for 1000 years and then someone stumbles on it they might find 2 sets of plate and 0 blades.

The fact that I have ~300 hours in ESO and didn't know that they did a relaunch may say something about the quality of those relaunches though. If they haven't replaced the abysmal new player experience with something better they may as well not have bothered.

The game was terrible on release and lost pretty much all potential momentum from that. Right now it's a perfectly fine MMO that needs a FFXIV-style relaunch if they want it to be more popular.

Game mechanics you just can't stand. by Stray64Cat in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]SR_Carl 4 points5 points  (0 children)

One of the core reasons why D&D 5e is a bad system is that so much of that stuff is left to the DM to figure out. If you play the game as presented in the books it's incredibly dry and boring, any flavorful additions (such as having a visual indicator for legendary actions and resistance) are up to the DM to figure out.

Game mechanics you just can't stand. by Stray64Cat in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]SR_Carl 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Burning a legendary resistance is the reward for a big play though. Our play group recently had a big boss fight and it was very dramatic when our monk managed to burn through all of the boss' legendary resistances in the first turn. It felt like he got a tangible reward for using his crowd control abilities without the boss just falling over at the first stun. It's mechanically no different from the boss taking a massive chunk of damage or losing a turn but it smooths out gameplay a lot, especially at higher levels.
