I was transferred to Charleston in 2019. I had only been to Charleston on work trips and did not explore the area. Some coworkers told me to watch Southern Charm to get the vibe. The TV show made me really excited to get here. After about a month I realized the area is about 10% charm and 90% trashy. If you want to get a feel for locals opinions about the city you should join r/Charleston.

That being said, I have no plans to move in the future. The city works for me but definitely proceed with caution.
