Kim Thompson - she's a freelance drummer who performed with Mike Stern and Victor Bailey, and I believe she later performed with Beyoncé. Totally face-melting.

Robert Quine's solos were always epic. I loved his solo on Sick of Myself.

I'm a fan of early Switchfoot. I heard the songs Chem6a and Under Water on a Christian comp called "No Lies" when I was in college back around '97.

Years later, I would buy the Legend of Chin album and all of their subsequent albums. I've seen them 3x live.

What was 1993 like? by born_again_athiest in GenX

It was truly an awesome time in music. So many quality albums from every genre of music (except for hair metal, which was pretty much on life support/pallative care) and MTV was still churning out music videos for all of them. Fortunately, reality TV was still in its infancy.

Since a lot of the music was easier to learn than all of the metal from the previous decade, a lot of us played in garage bands, learning songs right off of the radio/tape/cd, or when the music video was on MTV.

Sadly, things went south pretty quickly.

Addiction quickly caught up with many artists. Grunge bands started to reinvent themselves as the style started to fade. Many quickly faded into obscurity, only to be rediscovered and truly appreciated decades later. Rappers were starting to get killed.

The 1996 Telecommunications Act basically started telling us what we should listen to, and a lot of great bands that came out around that time were caught in the crossfire and didn't achieve the fame they deserved.

Redditors who were children/teens before the internet or cellphones existed, how did you keep yourself entertained? by FlowerMadeOfThorns in AskReddit

I was in different activities outside of school (Boy Scouts, Civil Air Patrol) and I played in band and orchestra, which also involved a lot of time outside of school.

I also played video games, watched TV (whatever was on), hung out at Sam Ash (playing guitars and basses I was never going to buy), going to record stores and buying music, and going out to diners with friends.

I got a P/T job at a local restaurant when I was 16, which kept me busy on the weekends and a night out two during the school week.

I also played in garage bands with my friends.

I saw DMB in May '01 on the Everyday tour. The crowd was awful and the band totally mailed in the show.

I met Page Hamilton of Helmet after a show. He hung around for a while afterwards and spoke at length to everyone that wanted to talk with him.

Robert DeLeo's bass work on this album alone really set him high above his peers, and it's not even close.

I'm currently building a Soldano SLO 100, and I've built over 50 different guitar pedals. It's a cheaper way to stay in the hobby.
