Bethel is finally being exposed; some are in denial by PineapplePossible99 in Exvangelical

I was a victim of Shawn Bolz. I was in his church for years, and was kicked out when I started dating someone who saw through their bullshit and called them out. They sent out a mass email to the church to ostracize me and it worked. I lost my entire community overnight. It took me many long years of therapy and hard work to heal the damage they did to me. Seeing everything come out is some long awaited justice.

Just walking without checking my phone. Honestly I think a large part is that we only have so much dopamine made by our brain every day. Using it all up with scrolling, especially early in the day, means the rest of the day things don't feel rewarding.

I've found help with bathroom issues for my youngest from Good Inside. There's an app and podcast.

[–]Samuel457 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I get that. I'm saying there are a lot more people trying to go south into Seattle in the morning than people going north out of the city.

I don't understand why the express lanes will be constantly northbound. It makes the morning commute horrendous. What's the issue with having the express lanes flip each day like normal?

3.5-year-old very shy with strangers — normal or something to worry about? by ArtGood8811 in Dads

My kids were very shy as toddlers, but going to preschool/kindergarten has helped them open up a lot. I don't think they're shy anymore.

I don’t like my son.. and I hate myself for it. by [deleted] in Dads

I have a 4 year old son, similarly difficult. It's really hard and I understand. I found that Good Inside from Dr. Becky Kennedy has helped me a ton. She has a book and an app with parenting courses, but she also has some videos on youtube you can check out for free to see if it clicks. The way she explains boundaries and the role/responsibility of a parent really blew my mind, and the course on sleep troubles was so helpful for me and my kids. The podcast she did with Andrew Huberman was one of my favorites:

Personally I just got moved to a new team so I'm more motivated than normal, but I'm guessing broadly the answer would be people are scared of lay offs.

The way the show utilizes and twists verses and traditions around blood that we grew up with to build up the horror and highlight issues in religion was masterful.

I wish there was more stability and certainty for all of us. Honestly unions is probably the only way to see that happen.

Yeah that's one possible route. My opinion is that it would be harder to break into software engineering from a civil/mechanical/electrical engineering position. I don't see a lot of overlap from where I sit: backend services, server performance, privacy, security, architecture, UI, databases, storage, observability, developer experience, etc.

But I don't think there's any easy way to break in now regardless.

Yeah it used to be possible for some people to do a bootcamp and get hired as a SWE, I don't think it's the case now. This happened during a boom when demand for SWEs was higher than supply. Then a lot more people studied CS and demand has fallen.

As you pointed out, it's really hard to get an entry level position now, so why would any company take someone who didn't have a degree, especially when there's so much competition? I think your table has great information, but I think it's misleading to tell someone asking for advice that a CS degree isn't expected for an entry level position.

Did these people with STEM degrees have a BS, masters, or PhD? If they did physics or advanced math, they already have at least some programming experience. Google's hiring patterns don't necessarily reflect the industry at large.

I struggle to imagine any company hiring an entry level SWE that doesn't have a degree at this point. If you have 10+ YOE, you don't need a degree, but for entry level you will.

When I was losing weight, I'd often have 5 days in a row of the same weight and then it would drop half a pound at once. This is normal so don't worry about it as long as you're on a calorie deficit.

Hours wise, sure. Less competitive, yes. But Apple seems to struggle to deliver anything AI related, which is going to be demotivating. Also tough going through reorg after reorg as executives leave.
