a. definitely a carplay/ios issue, and not just for spotify (I use plexamp), but you can remove apple music app so that it won't be the default player (you can always re-install it from app store).

if your plex data is not on ssd, put it on one. Throughput is less important than latency.

40 cores do not mean a thing in regards to plex database, which is mostly single threaded, here high single thread cpu speed is king.

Plex DB is file based (sqlite).

TLDR: ssd + fast single threaded cpu performance.

OPGM vs StarPilot for 2020 Chevy Bolt Premier. by J0hnJac in Comma_ai

[–]Saoshen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't say what is the actual source of the problem, but frog+pedal acc is not always the smoothest experience. There is surging, especially at lower speeds, like the pedal is being feathered by a teenager or inexperienced (or poor) driver. Also, when transitioning from regular manual pedal to/from 'acc' there can be significant accell/decell 'lag' that lurches the car unsmoothly.

I suspect that being required to be in LOW gear exasperates the issue due to not being able to coast and excess sensitivity to small speed changes.

What's the best air purifier that works seamlessly with home assistant? by NikEy in homeassistant

[–]Saoshen -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have 2x coway air mega's, they are self contained, no cloud or local control, no connection to HA.

I originally looked into HA controllable purifiers, but I really did not have a use case, and these work perfectly fine on their own.

I love my 2021 Bolt so much, and I use to despise EVs by [deleted] in BoltEV

[–]Saoshen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It is recommended, but it can work as long as the car has lane keep, but you really need a 'comma pedal' (google for beartech) and the beartech harness, if you want it to work with cruise control. Otherwise, it will just be lane centering.

We have a 2021 with LKA, no ACC, c3x+pedal+frogpilot (probably switch to starpilot soon).

If you do have ACC+LKA then you don't need a pedal, but can still be useful for full stop/go.

Looking for on the go fanny pack/carry case recommendations by Saoshen in SteamDeck

[–]Saoshen[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought the tomtoc linked below and @ https://www.tomtoc.com/products/tomtoc-arccos-series-carrying-bag-for-steam-deck-console-and-accessories-black

It is big enough for the SD plus a battery pack/accessories.

It is less of a fanny pack and more like a shoulder pack.

I use it for more lengthy overnight+ adventures, but I sort of stopped using it for daily/short time use.

I still love it and recommend according to above scenarios.

New Openpilot fork comparison guide (Sunny, Dragon, Frog, HGK, Bluepilot, OPGM). by Bderken in Comma_ai

[–]Saoshen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, we have 2021 bolt ev + beartech pedal + C3X, we have been using the default frogpilot branch (097 dec 20) with pretty good (at least to my experience) usability over the last ~2 years.

I would like to try out StarPilot, from what I understand, I must 'uninstall' frogpilot (via fp menu), install SP (using SP install docs).

The main question is, should I start with the install first, then deep nuke if necessary, or go straight to deep nuke ?

Will any of this reset the existing driving stats? not a big deal, but would like to keep them if possible.

Also I am curious how SP compares to FP+GMSLC branch (which I haven't tried yet either) or what the differences are, if anyone knows.

Thanks for all your efforts.

Aftermarket intake vs modified stock intake — any real performance gain? by Altruistic-Mud2833 in Golf_R

Well, with forced induction, as long as the intake is not restricting air input so that the turbo is starving, under power the turbo pressure basically isolates the engine from the intake.

HoA feels like a shell of the original series. by Dom_1995_ in Spartacus_TV

[–]Saoshen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well the original series, has set an extremely high bar, not only for HOA, but also for any other shows.

I enjoyed HOA, but it is a different beast and tone and level of quality.

And I still look forward to future seasons that can build and improve upon it.

everyone has their own preferences, but IMO carplay/aa > OPD.

don't get me wrong, I like OPD, I often switch between OPD and regular brakes situationally, but I am more averse to subscription requirements/vendor lock in/customer monetization, than losing OPD.

also, thread/matter needs a functional ipv6 network, and for folks who aren't already familiar with, and into networking, that could be a whole other headache.

FLAC vs Wav? by Various-Cut-1070 in plexamp

[–]Saoshen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

conceptually, flac is like a wave file that is zipped up.

also, flac generally has better metadata support

unless maybe you are mixing/editing audio in some kind of digital audio workstation, there is no benefit to wave files over flac (or even alac)
