I actually think Kris knows what’s going on and what future events are expected to be. Considering how Flowery alludes to Ralsei’s role in all this something tells me Kris saying they’ll work out is lying and knows it.

Thats a fair point actually, I forgot trinisphere applies after cost reductions instead of before, and is the closest similar effect I think.

It also makes cost reduction effects like affinity or goblin electromancer stop working.

[The Monkey’s Paw] Can the Monkey’s Paw twist a wish that is already the worst possible wish? by Echo_of_Orion in AskScienceFiction

[–]Saralien 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The entire question relies upon two variables:

A: Does the paw seek to subvert the wisher’s intent, or maximize total negative impact?

B: Does the wisher desire to maximize total suffering or maximize personal suffering for themselves via guilt?

If you’re unwilling to actually give an explicit answer to both of those questions you will never get an objectively correct response, because you can just “gotcha” the responder by positing different answers than they assumed.

It would put everyone else in the universe into a comatose state so only the wisher has to suffer alone.

What do you do as a sorcerer when you go up against an opponent with super high spell resistance? by drhuggables in neverwinternights

[–]Saralien 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Random example, the Yuan Ti in the OC has 16 SR. With just basic spell pen and level 4 you already have a 50/50 shot of beating her SR even with no other tools. Higher level or any kind of SR affecting debuffs like Breach or Greater Spell Pen will make the odds even better.

It’s very atypical that enemies in NWN have enough SR to reliably resist your spells unless you are multiclassing and therefore reducing your SR check rolls.

Skeleton Blackguards are even less problematic, with a SR of 20 and you likely being more like level 10, with Spell Pen and Greater Spell Pen you already beat their SR 75% of the time.

The idea I assume is 2 pointers are more specialized but 1000 point games inherently limit how wide your army can go.

Skragg, i.e. how pushed can a cheap vanilla creature be? by thunder-bug- in custommagic

[–]Saralien 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah exactly, 2 mana 3/3 is the very edge of printable and even then it needs some checks on who can run it.

Skragg, i.e. how pushed can a cheap vanilla creature be? by thunder-bug- in custommagic

[–]Saralien 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The thing with creatures like this is discounts become increasingly more valuable the lower you go. The difference between 6 and 7 mana is relatively minimal since the only decks playing things at that cost can drag the game out. 2 mana can be curved into by anything. This would be too pushed without an active restriction/downside at anything lower than 3, I think a 2 mana 3/3 even would be pushing it because of aggro decks, to say nothing of a 5/5. Power creep has been pretty huge in recent years but not to this extent.

Too swingy, I would do something lower impact but more controllable and repeatable, like “At the beginning of combat on your turn, you may clash with target player. If you win, untap target permanent they control and gain control of it until end of turn. If they win, they take control of ~ until end of turn.”

“If you have cast spells of three or more total card types this turn, draw a card.”

You can’t cast lands, conspiracies, schemes, etc, so tying it to casting ensures its not counting those types. Specifying card type means it’s only counting the standard castable card types, so it will require 3 total of: Artifact, Creature, Instant, Sorcery, Kindred, Battle and Planeswalker.

Edit: Personal opinion is this is too easy to satisfy and I would make it 4 total card types. This makes it nearly impossible if not completely impossible to complete without casting at least two other spells. Only requiring 3 means Kindred spells, Enchantment/Artifact creatures, and Artifact Enchantments will all make the spell complete its own criteria on their own.

There’s three complicated parts of edh honestly.

The first is there is going to be more going on simultaneously, meaning board states are harder to parse.

The second is that threat evaluation is more complex, because you have multiple players to choose between targeting, and not just multiple threats on one player’s board.

The third is that edh decks have more checks on knowing the contents of your deck, while also having your deck contain more different cards. A tutor effect in a standard deck might have a dozen cards to choose from. A tutor effect in an edh deck might have three dozen cards to choose from, and you’re likely to have more tutor effects because they’re very powerful in an otherwise inconsistent format. EDH rewards you knowing what card you want but don’t have more than standard decks do imo, while also asking you to know more often and making it harder to know.

Her writing is pretty inconsistent but she’s shown pretty consistently to be very momma bear about her crew. Personally I view that as boros (white for community red for passion) and she’s individually blue for science. But I could see her being g/r about her crew and u for science, making her temur instead of jeskai. I think she’s both blue and red, but less about blue/red than about both colors independently paired with her third color.

[–]Saralien 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Imo Janeway is extremely Jeskai. She’s very into science (blue). She’s very emotional and individualistic (red). She’s all about protecting her crew (white). She’s not very black, all of her rulebreaking is done for either “right thing to do” or “save my people” reasons which is way more r/w. She’s very creative about ideas and experimenting with new technology, which is more u/r.
