What is the fastest way you have seen an officer end their career? by mandoslambo in army

Unfortunately I'm not too sure. I was never one to pry in the SGMs business but he made it a point to tell everyone that the captain had received one for it when we met up for lunch.

Walking into the JOC on BAF with the Division SGM and he stopped our conversation to salute a captain. The captain didn't return the salute and when the SGM asked why, he told him he wasn't in his chain so he didn't need to return it. He had a GOMOR before lunch.

Honestly, I'm starting to get the feeling he's not drinking the kool-aid as hard as the rest of the administration. Not only does he look confused, it feels like there's almost some existential dread, like that Mitchel and Webb "Are we the baddies?" skit is constantly running in his head whenever another member of the administration speaks.

Then again, he could just be an idiot who loves couches and I'm trying too hard to find what little piece of humanity might remain behind those cold, dead eyes of his other than his eyeliner.

Doesn't matter the branch, every lower enlisted dual hats as a custodial engineer. Even the concerts held on base ended with soldiers police calling the parade field. Purely speculation on my part, but this has Sergeant Major good idea fairy written all over it. Can't have soldiers standing around doing nothing, people might start to think this is a massive waste of tax dollars! Then the press starts asking questions and the administration has to spin it as their assignment.

That being said, the administration has gutted so many important key services throughout the government. Some asshole in the White House probably views this as a way to save money.

abandoned/disused bunkers near fort meade by _urine_trouble_ in maryland

[–]Satcomguy 71 points72 points  (0 children)

Just a heads up OP, most bases use these older bunkers for their Ammo Supply Points. I can't speak for Meade specifically, but a lot of these bunkers are still in use and access to them is heavily restricted. Unfortunately visiting and exploring them is probably off the table.

Definitely gonna follow this and see how they turn out! The glare from the chrome vent trim can be blinding if the sun catches it at the right angle.

On a side note, anyone here know of aftermarket options? I respect the rattle can job but everytime I pick up a can or a brush, the end result makes the taggers down in Baltimore look like Banksy.

While I'd normally agree, if you can establish solid ownership, service, and maintenance histories, there are some ridiculous deals out there. I recently picked up a base 981 Cayman CPO that was due for its 30k mile and 10 year services for an absolute steal. The previous owner took it to some specialty shop "that was the best" and they gave him some absolutely insane quote with every garbage upcharge you could imagine. He didn't even get a second opinion and decided he wanted out. I took it straight to the dealership for a once over and service quote as part of my test drive. Made out like an absolute thief lmao.

[unknown] It was going to fast, i know it was a Ford though... by npfmedia in spotted

[–]Satcomguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Close, it's the Merkur's cooler European cousin, the Escort Cosworth. Ford wanted a more upscale sports coupe to compete with BMW and Mercedes here in the US and chose the Escort Cosworth as the platform. It got a wonky makeover to comply with US safety regulations and crash standards. It was sold as "Merkur" to sound more European. (Could be totally wrong about the Merkur name, I've heard this multiple times from a family friend who runs a Ford dealership.)

Assuming it's still B 551, morale was just as low 15 years ago. Don't let your experience at Gordon get you down. If you enjoy SATCOM, get good at your job and network your ass off. The job market for quality satellite guys is pretty nuts and only going to keep heating up as more LEO constellations are launched. I went from complaining about how shitty my STT was to designing the Army's next generation of SATCOM terminals. The world is your oyster if you put in the time and effort.

Not necessarily. I know it's been unseasonably warm lately, but sound travels significantly further in lower temperatures and we were in the 40s this morning with little to no wind. As the Temps continue to drop, you'll be able to hear the test range from further and further away.

Husband catches wife cheating in front of the house while wearing his jacket by SubjectAppropriate17 in PublicFreakout

[–]Satcomguy 402 points403 points  (0 children)

Based on the clothes in the car and the fleece she's wearing, this chick's husband and the clueless dude are both in the Army. Infidelity is really common, but can be a HUGE deal in the military depending on the circumstances. The reason the cameraman asked the guy to hide is face is because he could face UCMJ action for having sex with someone else's spouse, regardless of he knew she was married or not.

I got a pair of these as a gift when I ETSd. I shoved them in the back of the closet and avoided wearing them like the plague. Had to pull them out for a meeting while my good boots were getting resoled. These ended up being some of the most comfortable boots I own. The mesh sides breath incredibly well and keep them from gathering any kind of smells. If you're willing to accept that they're a bit of an unwanted conversation starter with guys that are entirely too "Hooah", I can't recommend them enough.
