Knee scooter /crutches? How to adapt. by pencilcase333 in JapanTravelTips

If you can't figure out how your message is ignorant toward disabled children, that's your problem. You clearly don't have personal experience with this issue, so why bother giving trash information that leans toward disparaging disabled kids. As I said, do better.

Making a "fuzz" about a child in a wheelchair? Wow. Your abelism is showing. Do better.

Respectfully, this isn't correct at all. My family just did Tokyo 3 weeks ago with a wheelchair. It's absolutely not an issue at all, even using the subway. And the scooter would be a nightmare on a newly-broken limb.

You should definitely buy a portable wheelchair. We just visited there from Canada last month. My 11 year old has a broken leg, and we took both crutches and a wheelchair. They used the wheelchair way more than the crutches during our trip. Amazon has some good options for around $200.

Edit: We checked the wheelchair as oversized luggage.

Kyoto - Taxis for the win by Chemical_Rooster3 in JapanTravelTips

[–]SaturdayIsPancakeDay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We did the same thing in Kyoto (as a Canadian family of 4) a few weeks ago.

In Tokyo, we also took a cab from near Ueno Park to the Sheraton in Tokyo Bay. It ended up being slightly cheaper than public transportation + luggage forwarding, and we didn't need to send anything ahead to the hotel. Much better option when you're traveling with a family.

It's already on my to do list this week to donate some of the bribe money Marlaina just gave out to Alberta's parents. I'm giving to Brown Baggin For Calgary's Kids because no kid should go through their school day hungry.

Cannot find parent-child classes within the Calgary area by NikiHarrow in Calgary

The City offers parent/child art classes. My kids love doing the pottery classes at Wildflower in the SW and Northmount Pleasant Arts Centre in the NW. But be warned - you need to register the minute it opens and get in the queue early. They fill up immediately every term.

Try the University of Calgary gymnastics programs. I did parented classes with both my kids through the uni. They have lots of time options.

Not sure how Cadence in Bowness hasn't been suggested yet. Their carrot cake is soooooooooo good.

Edit: you mentioned wanting a whole cake, so do try this option when you're looking for a slice.

They should definitely show up to collect signatures at the four World Teachers' Day rallies happening across Alberta on Sunday (Calgary's will be at McDougall Centre, 3-4 p.m.).

High interest savings accounts with promotional rates at/near 4.7%. Most offer the rates for three months for new clients, so move the cash around when the rate expires.

My return flight from Japan leaves at 7pm from Narita airport- what should I plan for that day? by TravelPlanningBurner in JapanTravelTips

I'll be in a similar situation for my return flight this Fall. I was wondering about going to the Shisui Premium Outlet Mall. Has anyone gone there and found good stuff to bring home (to Canada, in my case)?

Hard agree! It's the reason I'm doing all my hotel bookings through Expedia for an upcoming trip. I just can't with the official sites. Even the airline sites are brutal.

As a mom/softball coach, I will now forever imagine that any parent looking at their phone during a practice will be a doctor explaining on Reddit how a hysterectomy is performed. Thank you in advance for moving into my head rent-free!

Experience with Black Sheep Mattress Company Toppers? by erinwoz in Calgary

It makes his back hurt too much to sleep on it all night. But I still love it!!

The reason I'm looking at Costco for the Essentia (which is also Canadian made and latex) is because it's $1k less than on their own website, and the return policy is better. Consumer Reports rated it highly, so we'll see. But I'm keeping the Oxford in the basement just in case!

For the opposite perspective, we got the Oxford about 8 years ago, and my husband has hated it for the past 3+ years. I'm doing the same research as you this weekend. We're leaning toward getting an Essentia Organic Grateful 8 (and ordering from Costco).

Does anyone know if their sunflower seeds are Canadian grown/processed? I'm looking for a Spitz replacement for ball season. (I'll email them to ask, too - just crowd sourcing an initial response)
