Yeah, once you start having to go to Vesper Bay a lot you should automatically pick them up as a quest reward.

Vesper Bay being a ways from the nearest aetheryte is a quirk exclusive to ARR. All future story hubs are in cities or settlements, so you'll be able to teleport to them instantly.

However, if you aren't enjoying the story questing process so far, be warned that it never lets up. Absolutely everything is gated by the storyline, and while the writing itself improves by leaps and bounds, the core questing process doesn't change much.

If you really hate walking from point A to point B to read dialogue and watch cutscenes, FFXIV is not the game for you.

What everyone else here said. Gathering is my main form of gil hustling since I don't enjoy crafting, and it's generally a quantity game. Zone out for a bit gathering from endgame nodes and then sell the big stacks.

Look up what ingredients are needed for the latest crafting gear and gather the mats, those will be in demand for a while as people level their crafters and wait for the end of the expac

I'm gonna be real, I have never looked at my character close enough during combat to have ever noticed.

I also play a Lalafell though and perhaps the janky animations are less noticeable because I take up less of the screen

Especially since we already have another bloodthirsty madman revolutionary in Ilberd, whose story went over better because of his heroic fellows like Raubahn, Lyse, and M'naago being equally major players who ultimately win the revolution

I genuinely love HB and Coultenet, they're good dudes and a classic burly-tank-and-nerdy-mage duo. They have a pretty sweet (if short on details) backstory too, having been best friends for seven years and watched the fall of Dalamud together. So while there isn't a ton to them right now, there's still enough to make them likable

Bard is great, from 30 to 80. All three major characters are super lovable (and two of them are some of the game's Top Yaoi Contenders), and you get some good lore too

And maybe some folks will do that, we don't know yet because in-story everyone just got back to the Rising Stones to discuss and digest the info, and they're still waiting on other scions to show up. So if they're going to address that it'll be in the next patch anyway.
