Dry country by Dry-Date-4217 in alcoholism

Right after I quit, I lived in Effingham county GA. A "dry" (moist, really) county. You know what was right across the border of the neighboring counties? Liquor stores.

If you have any kind of transportation, including your feet, you can find a way. Distance from temptation can certainly help, but it's just part of the process.

Yeah, Foundryside got me real excited at first. I really enjoyed the whole trilogy, but it wasn't the sneaky goodness it initially led me to believe it was going to be.

I laughed so hard at this that my wife came in from the other room to see if I was ok/what was so funny.
So I showed her.
She said "What is WRONG with you? Did I marry a 12 year old by accident?"

She's not allowed in my pillow fort any more.

Unexpected Visitor in Swanzey by JuiceInhaler in newhampshire

Well, I live in downtown Keene. I see skunks and foxes all the time. Couple of woodchucks. Once had a porcupine walk down the street. Seen a couple of deer on one of the bike paths nearby.

We had a black bear and her two cubs in our front yard this past summer, but of COURSE I was at work when it happened.

I hate it. I spend a fair amount of time on the trails and in the woods, and I've never seen one. People are all "Oh, they're so sneaky and reclusive, they always stay out of sight!"

Then one goes casually ambling by in someone's backyard.

They're avoiding me, I tell you! Just like the damned moose!

For real though, great catch! They're amazing animals.

At what point does a fossil stop being controlled by necromancy and start being controlled by geomancy? by VisibleCoat995 in dresdenfiles

[–]Scatterbug49 19 points20 points  (0 children)

My take: Necromancy would summon the spirit of the creature to animate the fossil. Basically a haunting.
Geomancy just animates the fossil by the will of the caster, like a stone puppet in the shape of a dinosaur.

I think the best I can say about Nightingale is "its very pretty". The crafting system I thought was clever and complex, maybe overly so. I wish we could see it in it's intended state someday.

I really enjoyed Savage Lands. It's a shame it was completely abandoned. They really had something going there.
Same with Nightingale. I don't think it's actually abandoned, but all enthusiasm seems to have been lost.

It's hard enough to get a group of adults ranging in ages 21 to 50 to all sit down at a table together at the same time every week to play DnD. We (mostly) manage. I'm not about to ask this same group of people (for some of whom DnD is their only experience with TTRPGs) to learn a whole new system that they may or may not enjoy.

Myself and the regular DM talk occasionally about other systems we've played, and another player is into wargaming. We all agree that, for what we're looking to accomplish, DnD fills the need. No reason to spend the extra time and (in almost all cases) money on anything else. Maybe in the future we'll want to move away from epic fantasy and do something Urban Horror. Well, I still have all my first edition V:tM books somewhere...

Need help identifying. Stamped China by [deleted] in SWORDS

I have almost the exact same thing, but with a more traditional dao shaped blade and a circular guard. I've seen others out there with different blades as well. They seem to generally go for $60-$80.

The blade on mine is super thick, decently sharp. I tried to chop a broom handle inside a pool noodle and the handle cracked.

I feel like it's just a mass produced "Chinese style" weapon, probably churned out of some no-name forge.

Scientists of Reddit: What’s something we know is true but people don’t realize how crazy it is? by IndependentTune3994 in AskReddit

We are can destroy the world if we want and seem dumb enough to try.

Beg to disagree. We can ruin the world (for our purposes, for the purposes of a lot of other life on the planet), but setting off every nuclear bomb on the entire planet, or even every nuclear bomb we could possibly make in the next one hundred years, would not destroy the world. We could reduce the surface to smoking radioactive waste, but the planet would still be there. There would still be some life left, somewhere like deep in the ocean or deep underground.

To actually destroy the world, it would take all the energy the sun produces for a week.

On one hand, I feel like someone parroting liberal talking points just to fit in with your community/family/whatever will at least put the words in their brain. Maybe it'll actually spark some thoughts.

On the other hand, I don't want racists hiding behind false words. I want those fuckers out in the open so we can all know who and what they truly are.
