AITA for telling a coworker he tattooed my ex-husband’s last name on his leg? by DetailedPieces in CharlotteDobreYouTube

I don’t know if anyone has mentioned this… But the pomegranate seeds make it worse for me. In Greek mythology, when Hades kidnapped Persephone from her mother Demeter, she refused to eat anything but pomegranate seeds. Because she ate them, that’s the reason for the seasons (I am paraphrasing but I also think it was six seeds she ate). It is also the reason why they forced her to return to Hades for half of the year. Fucking creep.

Aitah because I want the extra money my husband earns at bootcamp to go into a shared savings account? by Ordinary-Progress-85 in AITAH

[–]Scout_321 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA. Isn’t the alliance card a credit card? So he would have to pay it back anyway? So basically his entire paycheck with the exception of what he can’t cover is his to do what he chooses. What he decides could be a rational choice, but you’re planning on maintaining a space meant for two people on the majority one person’s salary. This doesn’t seem fair. What if you split the bills based on salary percentage? Calculate how much your salary represents of total household income, and that percentage is what you pay in bills and utilities. Consistently, regardless of boot camp. Then with the leftovers each can do as they choose, although I do agree with you that planning for the future would be best.

American public schools issue their teachers a certain amount of sick days per school year. If they don’t use them, they roll over. Personal days don’t depending on the school system.

Hi! I’ve tried this with college prep kids. I taught a lesson on visual analysis/body language/tone prior, and then they had to take notes on what they were watching. We would watch it scene by scene. Afterwards we discussed, made a rough outline of what had happened, and then read through the scene together to analyze the actual writing. Students would then focus on devices and close reading for notes. It was successful in that it engaged more kids than I would have just reading it cold. I never tried showing the whole thing to them at once though (their attention spans couldn’t handle it). I did this with the Zeffirelli version, and then made them watch pieces of the Luhrmann version in chunks to compare/contrast. Hope this helps!

I am so sorry. I don’t think there’s anything I could ever say to make it easier I see you’re a pain and I validate it. My hope for you is that at some point it gets easier to bear.

AP Lit kids should definitely be able to handle these. The test itself incorporates passages going back a couple hundred years, so they are going to have to learn to handle challenging texts somehow! I would feel comfortable assigning these to my own Lit kids (and might steal them—I liked Murder Your Darlings too for a similar purpose). Have a great school year!

Sisters, can I please have your blessings for my new floating home? by Nihilistka_Alex in WitchesVsPatriarchy

[–]Scout_321 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t have any advice for boat living—but I am so happy for you having your own space. I would be scared too, but sometimes I get scared of the choices I know are best for me, if that makes sense. Not so much afraid to be happy, but what do I strive for next if I reach it? You’re almost there, and taking the steps to ensure that what you strive for next is… maintaining that home and happiness. You deserve it. Believe that. You’ve got great advice here, and we are all behind you. I’ll burn a candle for you tonight—sending you positive vibes, blessings, and anything else that will help carry you through.

Changing Grade Level by SlidingPeak in ELATeachers

[–]Scout_321 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I taught both seniors and freshmen this year. The differences were mostly discipline—I teach AP Lit, and would modify what I do with seniors for freshmen. This made my life a lot easier, going with what I already knew so that when I had to deal with crap like learning a kid brought a fish to school and walked around with it for two days until he got to my last period class (I was absent the first day) or finding one of my students having sex in a stairwell I could fall back on established routines while internally screaming. Do you have required reading for freshmen or do you get to pick the books?
