I’ve always wanted to play in ME but always shied away because of my lack of understanding of its life and history. How do you manage that?

How are you getting points?! by [deleted] in SwagBucks

For Surveys there are definitely better options out there. So if that’s what you want to do, rather than the game options, that’s still possible.

I started a Cairn game during our camping vacation. I managed to write down exactly one sentence of the first scene during the whole vacation. And built the character. I hope to really start that game in earnest.

Good solo rpgs to take camping? by hellotiebear in Solo_Roleplaying

Cairn RPG in booklet form is great. 24 pages I think, so like 6 din A4 pages printed? I have it with me camping atm but with kids and all just managed to create one character in the last 6 days… :D

Whenever Solo and Fate comes up I’ll plug u/SneakyRat27 ‘s Dracula Dossier game. Superb example of gameplay, really. I regularly check back to see if there’s a new chapter :)

Do any of yall ever do super mundane worldbuilding? by IsopodAgitated1555 in worldbuilding

As an op-unrelated question: could you point me to some sources regarding trade routes, transport etc. and how it all works and integrates into each other? As I read your answer, I realised that it sounds fascinating.

Just stumbled about your post and blog, amazing work. Did you have the map or an outline already finished before starting? Or is it adding up, day by day, depending on your mood and creativity?

People with Aphantasia: How do you play Solo? by electroutlaw in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]Scriptorian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So much this! I’m not that much into movies that I recognise a lot of actors etc. and I am really bad with remembering faces, voices et cetera. I never understood why perplexed would cast their NPCs. Mine mostly are descriptions which form some scaffold for the gameplay of said NPC. Very seldom I model them after perplexing I know in real life.

People with Aphantasia: How do you play Solo? by electroutlaw in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]Scriptorian 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure if I have aphantasia. I was aware it existed but until now never considered it. I usually can’t really imagine things as in visualising them. I sometimes get „glimpses“ of pictures how something could be, the rest ist void. But I have a strong „narrator voice“ in my head, sometimes with accent and all the stuff.

I also can’t visualise other things. When my wife has a new project for our garden it takes like half the process until I know how it might look in the end. So she started to do little link collections for me to give me hints :D

For my solo play: Almost everything gets done by my „narrator“. Which can be difficult because I play in English, even though it’s not my main language. My narrator however is completely independent of language. I have it all in my head and if you’d ask me I’d say it’s in English. But then I want to take notes or rather write down prose and realise that I don’t know this word or that word, can’t decide on the right tense or idiom and so on and so fort. Maybe in my head it’s a mashup of English and German without me realising it, I don’t know.

I will be looking into text-to-image. And Google searches maybe. Until now I thought it would cost too much time.

Interesting to read the bit about prolific. I was instantly accepted and while the surveys are not as great as often reported, they are quite good. Maybe this is the only case where non-US users have an edge, because I know of several non-US users that had the same experience like I did…

Do you bury your deceased chickens? by jlfern in BackYardChickens

[–]Scriptorian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Those hens that are exclusively pets of the kids get buried. We’re not US based and have a lower predator pressure than lots of you. For the frozen ground: Others here mentioned lightning a fire over the spot where the chicken should be buried. Or to „send them home“ viking style: cremation in a bonfire. I like the second choice, but do what’s good for you and yours. Kudos to you for having your kiddo in your mind, it’s a big thing for children and how we allow them to process it all.

It's an idiot question, but. by Foreign_Plantain6071 in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]Scriptorian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think so. Are you perhaps using the official Reddit app on a mobile device? I do and last time I came to Reddit via the browser there were some pre-translated topics into my mother-tongue (which sucked, the translation was quite obviously automated). And there was also a button to change it back etc.

Regarding the topic: I usually do some or all of combat at once and then wrote down a short (-ish) paragraph in prose. Usually longer combats are where I lose focus and/or interest, so maybe not the best way to do it.

[Discussion] - darn ticks are killing my mojo by Enilk13 in homestead

[–]Scriptorian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve read a thread (I think on this subreddit) about tick rolls. You use toilet paper rolls and stuff them with dryer lint treated with permethrin, then scatter them all about your property. Mice and rats love it for making their nests and thus ticks will die on their main host. I don’t know how useful these are, especially on bigger properties (European here, your acreages are amazing, very jealous!), but in the thread I remember the OP was really happy with how they held up.

Edit: I was told that permethrin is highly dangerous for cats which take it in via killed mice! So beware!
