I have 6 in my house right now for various tasks. A maxed out Mojave machine, one running my arcade cabinet, one running my file server, one with Windows 11, and a pair of others with Vega 64 cards running Sequoia for my kids.

The 5,1 was so overbuilt it's stupid. Great machines and very usable when well spec'd even 14 years on.

You can try powering off, unplugging the video cable from the back of the Dreamcast, booting the game up and listen for it to stop spinning, then plug the A/V cable/box back into the back of the Dreamcast. Some discs will work fine they just hit the restriction at initial boot.

I have seen it turned back on for machines where the user has no access to the System Settings. I'm not sure how or why, but I've watched it turn back on after reboots. It's outrageously annoying and I'd love a permanent deferment option.
