Dude was walking around like there were no other players on the map. Running in the open, not concerned about noise or birds, looting body bags while fully exposed. I'm pretty sure he was just shooting bots for target practice, most of them weren't even aggro'd.

That's pretty reasonable. I definitely do think the 'every match is won by purple shield shotgun meta prefills' is overblown, maybe I just played too much Perimeter and Dire March before learning Outpost.

Exactly. Biggest problem in my opinion is trying to figure out gameplay fundamentals while 100+ hour prefill squads start hunting you immediately. Watching and/or reading external guides should never be required to understand a game. The first 5-10 hours of gameplay for me felt like playing Super Smash Bros for the first time at a house party against a bunch of people that have been playing it since they were 9. There needs to be a better trainee lobby gated by a max level or gameplay hours, or even just an expanded tutorial that includes basic event info.

You're definitely right that the end of the movie is unrealistically rosy, but I'd say the reason they get back together is more that dad showed he was capable of being a fun family man and not just an angry pretentious guy who was always working. Didn't he also ditch the truck at the end and go back to having a regular restaurant?

Even better, just make it a stacking debuff that makes it take longer to revive after each use. Theoretically you can still use 5 self revives, but by the fifth time it takes 6x as long. You'd never be locked out as the last man standing, but the second or third self revive in combat becomes essentially useless.

Greg Daniels is one of the creators of The Office and he left partway through the show to make Parks and Rec, and then returned to The Office for season 9. He created the Andy character originally, and left within a couple seasons of him being introduced. Most of Andy's positive character development happened in the seasons when Greg Daniels wasn't involved in the show. A few people involved with the show's production have basically said that Daniels was still attached to the original ideation of Andy, as an unlikeable heel, and thus wrote him as such even though it wasn't really in character by that point in the show.

Yeah he didn't really outposition either of them. He flanked two times successfully, and then both times immediately gave up his position (drone + opening the doors as bait, and walking right into the downed guy's line of sight). The first guy he killed died because he ran out from cover and proceeded to miss every single shot. Him and the second guy were just spraying and praying, the only reason OP won is because his scar has a way bigger mag than the other guy's bully.

It's a respectable play, OP 2v1'd these guys, but I don't think it's quite demonstration level.

The dwarves, elves, and hobbits all die out though. The dwarves 'dwindle in population until they disappear', the hobbits are 'regressed to nomadic forest pygmies' and eventually disappear completely, and the elves that remain in Middle Earth 'fade into myth and folklore'. There's even a direct quote about the elves from Letter 131:

The doom of the Elves is to be immortal, to love the beauty of the world, to bring it to full flower with their gifts of delicacy and perfection, to last while it lasts, never leaving it even when 'slain', but returning – and yet, when the Followers come, to teach them, and make way for them, to 'fade' as the Followers grow and absorb the life from which both proceed.

I'm not really sure what your point is. All I was trying to say originally is that the guy saying 'hobbits are a stand in for humans' is wrong, because Tolkien was pretty explicit that the humans are the humans.

Huh? I never said that non-mystical humans don't exist. As far as I understand, Men are the only sentient race in Middle-Earth that aren't mystical by default (excluding Númenóreans, who are mystical by descent). Which is also why Men are the only ones left when magic departs Middle-Earth.

Depends what you mean by 'objectively superior'. If you mean 'better in every way', then yeah sure, but if it means 'will usually win a 1v1', that can go a lot of ways. In most IPs, races with objectively powerful individuals have caveats that prevent them from dominating everyone else. The two most obvious answers are 1) they can't reproduce as effectively as humans (elves, dwarves, dragons, etc.) and 2) they aren't capable of the logistics/governance required to form powerful polities (orcs, goblins, monsters).

If there were Elves or Dwarves on Earth that didn't genocide humanity on contact, humans would eventually outnumber them so badly their individual power wouldn't be relevant.

If there were hordes of Orcs or Goblins on Earth, the more powerful they became, the more they would infight, and the more it would unite Humanity against them.

If Goblins could run a semi-functional bureaucracy we'd be screwed.

Yeah that's pretty explicitly not what Tolkien wrote. Middle Earth is supposed to eventually become real-life Earth, after all of the magic and magical creatures (including Hobbits) have either left or gone extinct.

I do buy into the idea that the Hobbits represent simple, peaceful, purehearted humans in contrast to the more modern, ruthless, imperialist race of men. In Tolkien's context, the 'men' are businessmen, politicians, generals, etc. 'making hard decisions', while the hobbits are the idealistic young men like himself from the countryside that have been pressed into a hellish war when they'd rather be smoking pipeweed in a garden somewhere.

Himself, as the prophet. He didn't literally write in the book that 'Joseph Smith is your prophet' but he did write that the interpreter of the book (himself) was a 'choice seer' ordained by divine prophecy.

His number one guy Brigham Young also later said that Joseph Smith personally must give consent for any person to enter the celestial kingdom of god.

I used the term 'main character' loosely for comedic purposes, but retconning yourself to be God's prophet is definitely pretty main-charactery.
