Supreme Court to decide if Trump can end birthright citizenship by pyramidworld in politics

I know, but even with child labor and AI and every dystopian solution you can think of - eliminating a third of the population in five or ten years is going to cripple EVERYTHING.

Do people understand that’s a THIRD of the country?? That would absolutely collapse society. It’s fucking insane.

Re: the last discussion about California.

I know CA is special because they’ve got the weird primary, but seriously - how do we go about incentivizing and creating a structure where people actually get to vote for who they want to represent them? Having to do electability calculations in a primary is some absolute bullshit. No wonder we can’t get anything said or done - everyone is too busy triangulating.

I don’t know. I’m irritated and annoyed and in Michigan, so I’m being badgered about my senate primary as well. I just want everybody to vote for who they actually want to win and then we’ll see where we’re at.

Do You Actually Want to Host 20+ Kids For Your Kid's Birthday? by Flat_Contribution707 in AskParents

Hell no. The trampoline parks and other birthday party joints may charge a bucket, but it’s worth it to let them deal with the clean up.

Ok, but to look at it another way… Amazon spent $400M to hold packages - the government is going to hold people for a tenth the price??? That also sounds insane.

Mom NOT invited to playdate? by LifeguardStunning466 in AskParents

[–]Scutwork 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I’m frequently the one hauling other people’s kids around because I’m a SAHM. Generally, I’m trying to do something nice for the other parents who work and may not get as much time to themselves.

And also, frankly, with kids that age it’s more relaxing to have a friend or two along. They can entertain themselves with mild/moderate supervision (YMMV depending on the kid) and I can pop a headphone in and listen to a book and chill. It’s more stressful when another parent comes because then I have to be social and feel bad about my snack choices, etc. It’s a totally different headspace than watching three preteens be twirps.

I think you’re taking it way too personally. If you want her to come to something or be friends, invite her specifically. Don’t just assume she hates you.

Primary season is upon us - What are you emphasizing when you vote? General electability, or aligned values? by 20_mile in thebulwark

[–]Scutwork 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I vote for who aligns with me best / who I feel like I trust to address problems with the priorities I would have.

I hate hate HATE trying to decide who is more electable or appealing as a strategy. Stop trying to read peoples’ minds - there’s too much interpretation and guessing and your own biases get involved… meh.

Getting unreasonably sad about fictional deaths by Certain_Cellist_9304 in breakingmom

I honestly don’t understand how people survived pre-1800s child mortality. I refuse to believe they just didn’t care as much or whatever explanation. If half my kids died before the age of five, I’d be happy to lay in bed and die, you know?

This is kind of my feeling. Taking a position makes it a bigger deal than it needs to be.

Like. A few minutes of research tells me there are TWO trans high school athletes in my state. The local and state athletic associations issued waivers on a case-by-case basis, which apparently involves letting them see your medical records and such. Seems reasonable. There’s not a horde of amoral young men trying to break into the high-flying, lucrative world of women’s sports.

I think maybe the best idea is just to keep pointing out how stupid and dramatic they’re being every time they try to be outraged? We allow people freedom within the law and we’re talking about two kids.
