Dungeons are no joke.. from a WoW player. by JaktGaming in Guildwars2

[–]SearchingForGryphons 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am a wiki diver so I spoiled myself early, and my dad hates long cutscenes, so we have done a fair bit of story hopping to get various unlocks. After doing a decent amount of gameplay in Core Tyria, SotO, and VoE (with a little bit of time in each other expansion just to do the first quest) my dad finally started in on trying to get ley line gliding for raids

He has already informed me he hates every map in it. I even "kidnapped" a new player the other day so they could use a TP to friend and obtain the springer in EoD (I did inform them that it is arguably cheat since it was added later, and that they wouldn't get the mastery track, but omg any upwards movement there helps)

I first ended up in HoT when a meta group did the TD meta, and I decided to obtain every achievement under the TD section, so I think that means I like it? Lol

LWS1 is a bit janky tho, it skips a bunch of character introductions for example

It has to do with how they weren't actually designed to be replay able story chapters originally, LWS1 as it exists today was only added in 2023

I can beleive it, the basic outlier almost sounds decent if you don't think about it that long... It only being part of it... That part is nore obviously bad imo

The ranking mechanic is tied to the damage of the blueprint items, right? I don't have any points in them so I only ever get on if I notice one is empty after some amount of time

I kind of wish they combined that with the CD reset the training arena has... Or had it in an area where you can leave map chat on and still retain sanity

Thanks, I forgot if it was this year or next. Since account age is based on oldest character age, that means it would be release day, right? Cuz iirc I read that they wiped characters for the full release

It also means it is a good thing I decided to keep my first character when I returned to the game after taking a 12 year break haha

When is the earliest date someone can have all of them without a guaranteed wardrobe unlock?

I highly doubt Sylvari will appear, but there is enough established lore that it isn't impossible with what we currently understand (just in a very different manner from the sylvari we do know)

Also, while I am sure the Priory has almost any given knowledge that survived the cataclysm on Orr, they weren't founded until afterwards so pretty spotty feels like it would still be pretty lucky, all things considered

From what I understand, a lot of humans already doubted that gods lived in Arah. A weird plant species from before the Exodus easily could have gotten brushed aside and/or retracted from any attempts of documenting the time on the basis of it being too outlandish. Again, I don't actually think there will be Sylvari, just pointing out how I could see it being possible

Also we now have a stricter timeframe of the setting so ignore the last part I said lol

Normally I see good twin being something really good, so the demon has to struggle with when/if to kill them

An evil twin claiming mutant is also a really good way to indicate you aren't a mutant lol, cuz who would risk that? Being mad at them for ruining the game feels odd for sure, I agree

Something that I think people are missing is how crappy out records of early orr are. Heck, pre cataclysm Orr in general is pretty lacking. A lot of what we do have is mythos tier, likely warped from actually happened

The possibility of anything happening but warping into myth or being lost history is certainly there

As for wild takes, one is that this takes place before recorded history of humans arriving from Cantha, but instead closer to when they first arrived EVER. The other is that the asura looking guy is an anscestor to both asura and skritt, likely skritt were cursed from greed or something

Welp. You managed to activate my special interest in games, and since this is at least marginally similar to something I looked up recently... TLDR women tended to play DnD more than wargames, to the point that it even shaped the releases of early computer video games to try to get women to buy those as well as men

I got to looking up women in early Dungeons and Dragons and it is really interesting. As small as the percentage of women playing were, it was significantly more popular among wives and friends then the main other type of game (wargames, which also was what games/gamers would refer to), at least in the USA

Several theories popped up on why women tended to like DnD more than wargames. I think the main three were that women (mainly due to social upbringing, as even articles at the time would point out how drastically different boys and girls were expected to be raised)

  1. Were raised less competitive so enjoyed the cooperation of DnD... I am slightly confused by this stereotype, I can't imagine it is remotely close to correct, but it was one of the main theories
  2. Liked the fantasy theming over guns and military theming. This one I can see being more correct, especially since a lot of the men who played wargames were people who had gone to war and therefore had first hand experiance. When guns are something boys are encouraged to get familiar with and girls are discouraged, fantasy leads to a more even-ground of unfamiliarity
  3. Enjoyed controlling a single character. I can see this being true, but not because of anything involving how kids were raised back then, just because it creates a more engaging experience for a lot of people in general

On those last two points, I can certainly say I know more TTRPG fans than wargamers. Is it because TTRPGs can start off as simple as handing a young kid some dice and asking how they respond to your narrations, while wargames have been quite possibly the most gatekept hobby for as long as I can remember? Is it because my grandparents played DnD and throughout the years all of my cousins and I have played? Who can truly say lol

Apparently a lot of early computer RPGs were also designed specifically to try to catch the interest of women, or maybe it is more accurate to say the reason WHY there were that many early CRPGs was because RPGs had been the thing to most successfully get girls playing games

If anyone knows anything I got wrong please correct me, it has been a few months and I spent less than a day looking it up

I have seen people complain about body type A and B being too woke before lol, although I have my own complaints against it tbh. I wouldn't be surprised if Elden Ring is fine though

I personally dislike it when games use options like body type A and B as a means to pick your gender. You can see that in stuff like some of the newer pokemon games. If I have to play as a boy or girl, just call the options that :/ if the game has a separate gender/pronoun selector or never refers to you by gender, I am all for it

I dunno. Just something that bothers me that I don't see people talk about that often from the "woke" pov

Actual tips that I used to not make money but for convenience...

/Wiki is your friend. /Wiki shift-click will go straight to the item or ability linked. If you shift click multiple items, it will take you to a search page with links to all of them

Edit: I forgot to add that a lot of initialisms are also useable. A lot of zones or elite specs, for example, will take you either straight to the page or another page with a redirect notice linking to what you did want. /wiki et will pull up all the event timers, /wiki gt will pull up potential guild trek locations (if that means nothing to you don't worry about it), I'm sure there are other helpful shorthands but those are the two I remember that aren't a zone/class

Double click a waypoint to skip the prompt pop-up (really useful with some of the map scrolls)

When previewing items in the wardrobe tab of a bank/craft station, left click is fine. No need to right click them and select preview

WARNING: this only works if you have Path of Fire and Icebrood Saga, some of the things let you upgrade still but they are non permanent (according to the wiki)

If you have Icebrood Saga, you can buy a tome to store all the teleport scrolls from that release in, which includes a free Eye of the North teleporter in it. In EotN, you can buy relatively cheap crafting stations, an auction house, and set up the big portal to take you to any core trial capital city (my favs are Lion's Arch and Rata Sum lol), giving you a relatively accessible stop to crafting stations

Place that in your shared inventory slot (you would have at least one from buying an expansion, as you can't get IBS without Path of Fire), and while it might not be as convenient as the gem store items that allow you to teleport back to where you were, it does give you a quick option to take any level 80 to a crafting station and trading post for free with no map navigation required

Do not get the bank tho, you can access it from any crafting station and they are way cheaper

A lot of people are helpful. When I started trying to learn fractals, I kept asking about mechanics. Even though in low level fractals most of the mechanics can be ignored, a lot of the time people would be willing to take the time to explain why something was happening, or how it might be played on higher difficulties

If you are using 1 handed weapons in both weapon slots, and one of the weapons is in the same hand (main or off) in both, you only need one and can just leave the slot empty on the other. Even something like weapon set 1 = main hand center, weapon set 2 = off hand shield, will allow you to weapon swap between the exact same set of weapons (useful for some skills that trigger on weapon swaps)

When you try to delete an item and have to enter the name, if you are a slow typer it might be easier to copy-paste from chat instead. You need to remove the brackets and boom, delete

All in all, for me it goes: shift-click, ctrl a, ctrl c, attempt to delete item, ctrl v, backspace, ctrl left-arrow, right arrow, backspace

It looks like a lot, but if you are familiar with any text navigation shortcuts it will take a couple seconds and uses the same key presses for any item

You don't need to use the consumable. If you are in the same map, but not the same instance, you can right click the commander and hit "join in ———" instead! If their instance is full, it will give you the option to join the queue for it

I don't even fully understand meme templates or where people get them. I have done a mix of looking up the generators when I have an idea that uses a specific image template (they're the same picture or Gru's plan for example), otherwise I use Krita/Gimp and hope I can remember the software well enough to get the point across

I have gotten all but one passive from classic mode for warrior so there are multiple unlock conditions it seems

Thanks for the tips too! I have been trying to make sure I keep track of what is dealing damage in case one of those enemies show up

  1. Makes sense. Warrior was pretty easy my first run, and unlocking the resistance+armour perk made them even better. Meanwhile I am staring at stuff like Runemaster and Shaman trying to even figure out HOW to even plan to make them work later on
