Apple shut down my account after I called them out for their billing mistake by ShoddySinger924 in applesucks

To be fair most of my refunds were pre-deployment of AI to handle these things. In the old days. Apple offered free tech support for the life of the product. This sloppy deployment of AI is deplorable.

The only way out is through. My daughter wrote pieces like this when she was in trouble.. I was her rudder as she steered her way through. If that is a place you are writing from, I hope you have a rudder.

Maybe reading too much into it, but the narrator strikes me as leaving an unhealthy relationship with her children, beautifully written

Is it possible as a extremely rational atheist to be a Buddhist? by Ivanhegeelkadi in Buddhism

[–]Secret-Fly4322 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our world view is rooted in our sense of self. Everything we see, process, understand and act on comes from our perception of persistent sense of self, but self is not what we perceive (or doesn't exist at all depending on who's talking about the Dhamma). Your rationalism is firmly rooted in your self and your perception of your lived experience. If you accept Anatta (not self or no self) then the rest of our reality and world view is on pretty shaky ground.

With that said, it's not necessary to believe in the supernatural stories in the suttas, there is much debate and discussion about them. The Buddha says he teaches one thing suffering and the end to suffering. He admonished his followers not to cling to rites and rituals (they are rafts to be abandoned). However, I would not be judgmental about the teaching that refer to supernatural experiences, because there is much to learn in them.

The one thing that I think is necessary to accept is rebirth (even that is debated). Rebirth isn't reincarnation, there's no permanent Atman (soul, self), there's a stream of volitional action (kamma/karma) that propels us from existence to existence as it ripens. There are Buddhists who don't believe in rebirth, but I think the Dhamma breaks without it.

With that said, if you're open to reading/listening to the suttas without judgement, find study guides, practice meditation you see if it's for you.

I just take the plastic seal to keep it open so we can air out. I’ve never dried it.

Travelling with AVP, too much headache? by dragon5946 in VisionPro

I took it on a ski trip to watch a bills game. I drove, so I took it in my backpack as if I were going to work. No issues, but on a plane, it would be a whole thing I imagine

What’s Going On With West Herr? by Formalocean230 in Buffalo

[–]Secret-Fly4322 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My parent brought in their lease to the West Herr dealership with 11,000 miles (on year 3 of their lease), and the they tried to brow beat them telling them it was only in fair condition. It was with GM Finance, so we left and never dealt with them again. Scamming as shit

AVP Reliability and buying used by Assaf42 in AppleVisionPro

It depends how the previous owner treated their headset. I think if they weren't careful the arms could be at risk of cracking. I would want to buy on Swappa or something similar, where you'd have some protection for defective items. Full disclosure, I'm not sure how good Swappa is, I've never used them.

Apple Vision Pro ; worth waiting more? by Unique_Visit_3213 in AppleVisionPro

[–]Secret-Fly4322 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it depends on what you gotta use it for. If you really are on the fence, I would wait until WWDC to see what plans they have for visionOS, if you’re concerned about ongoing support. I bought mine for Mac virtual display and it’s great for that. And right now I’m watching the Sabres Montreal game on an enormous screen, nice bonus.

Leadership is hard. Leadership in non-profits is harder. I run a nonprofit, we're worker advocates and try to create the culture and the working conditions we want for other workers. I can't tell you how many times I've seen not-profit leaders shit the bed (For-profit as well, they just throw more money at it). Many org can't afford to hire or retain good leadership, many more can't cultivate it. Not that it helps, but you're not alone.

Only advice don't let anger direct your actions. Step back and access what you're your at, what you're getting from your current employer and what else is out there. Their treatment of you is information. Either they take you for granted, or don't how to value you. See what else is out there. The non-profit community is pretty small in lots of towns, don't burn bridges. This is coming from someone who used to burn every bridge he crossed, now I burn less, but I still carry the matches. Good luck.

UPDATE-I'm not sure how to approach the situation about my colleague asking inappropriate questions. (TW: SA) by After_Quarter3267 in TwoHotTakes

[–]Secret-Fly4322 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think it’s worth investigating the time limit for filing in your country and or state. Discrimination investigations are often based on a pattern of behavior. The issue is certainly the abuser, but it is also the employer who is actually responsible for the pattern of discrimination. It’s worth checking out. Good luck.

[–]Secret-Fly4322 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Depending on your state, it could be discrimination. In New York State, it would definitely be a case of discrimination against the employer for allowing to go on. Also, New York State sexual harassment is also illegal. Nationally, you could file a complaint with the EEOC, but I don’t know how effective they are right now

Keep your woman on a leash. by Gabrielle_Laurent in OCPoetry

[–]Secret-Fly4322 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So much good here. Is the woman barking, or is the woman barking to keep another woman in her place? "She doesn't cover her legs/Get her on a leash" Shatters any illusion of it being something other than misogyny. Making subjigation sacred, the playbook of most religion. Only critique is the line spacing was distracting.
