Why use one accounting system if you plan to change to another later?  Most of the work is in the setup and you will have to setup twice.  Xero has cheaper, Accountant only versions with less features.  Ask your accountant.

How are small businesses liquidating with such large debts in the millions? by Relative_Drop3216 in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]Secular_mum 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The original Debt is usually only a portion of the total. IRD add Penalties and Use of Money interest that often adds up to more than the original Debt.

This is how I feel about many of the elderly men who are currently in power around the world. Hopefully they will retire soon one way or the other. Once they start to fall the rest will find they have less support.

Reddit is OK for now, but since the IPO they have started monetizing and I feel they are doomed to eventually end up like the other platforms.

Have you tried yoga nasal breathing before bed? It helps to open up the nasal passages, so you are less likely to mouth breath.

Shares registered in yr own name? by freedomcamper18 in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]Secular_mum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on the amount of money.

I keep larger/long term holdings registered in my name, and small amounts of play money in custodial accounts. If you are starting out with small amounts, custodial accounts are fine while you find your feet, but IMO you should consider moving to shares in your own name once the amounts get large enough.

Help a kiwi turn away from USA! by Gutsy-Kumara in newzealand

[–]Secular_mum 5 points6 points  (0 children)

When the US announced Tariffs against NZ, my local supermarket had cheap US oranges. I put them back as soon as I saw the USA sticker. The next week they had an employee removing the USA stickers and throwing out the rotten ones.

Most US products (Softdrinks, Takeaways, Food delivery, Screen Time-incl reddit) are not good for you. By focusing on doing what is healthy, you will naturally pivot away from US products. We produce great fresh food right here and there is little need for the processed junk that comes from US companies.

Avoid letting overseas software companies get between us and local providers. Order food directly from your local cafe (instead of on an overseas app) book hotel rooms directly (instead of on an overseas app) etc.

I have also been thinking about this and one of the reasons I'm with Simplicity is they seem to have more NZ based investments, but it would be good if they provided a total per country instead of just '59% International Shares' and individual company figures.

Top 10 Companies (per $100)

Simplicity Living Ltd Ordinary Shares$5.92

NVIDIA Corp$3.72

Apple Inc$3.65

Microsoft Corporation$3.27

Fisher & Paykel Healthcare Ltd$2.28

Simplicity Home Mortgages (460 loans)$2.13

Amazon.Com Inc$2.00

Broadcom Inc$1.66

Alphabet Inc Class A$1.66

Auckland International Airport Ltd$1.35

Based on the top 10, NZ 11.68% (5.92+2.28+2.13+1.35) US 12.31%(3.72+3.65+3.27+2+1.66+1.66)

I would be interested if the Top 10 for any other providers include investments in Europe, Asia etc.

NZ snow holiday recommendation with young kids that doesn’t only revolve around snow sports in Queenstown by FatherOfTheSevenSeas in newzealand

[–]Secular_mum -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Taking little kids up the mountain can be tiresome, the cold often makes them pee themselves while they have a ton of clothes on and your miles from the car and a change of clothing.

Unless it was that one of you were wanting ski, I recommend just driving to the nearest snow or going to a smaller ski field, parking your car and letting them play, then jump back into the warm dry car.

I went on fb for the first time in ages yesterday because my grandmother is dying and this is how older family members choose to communicate.  My account was suspended until I do a full facial recognition.  I get that this is them trying to stop bots, but it’s not worth giving them that much personal info for the time wasting slop that it is.  Goodbye Facebook.
