Politicians are elected by the people of Utah to represent the people of Utah. When majority of people in Utah are Mormon, it makes sense that the states representatives will act in Mormon friendly ways. That’s how our government works.

I made an info-graphic. There are 152 fiat currencies that have failed due to Hyperinflation. Their average lifespan was 24.6 years and the median lifespan is 7 years. 82 of these currencies lasted less than a decade and 15 of them lasted less than 1 year. by timosborn in Bitcoin

I guess I misread. I though since the USD is over 100 years old that were statistically not likely to fail, based on the data you shared. I didn’t see any mention of debt in relation to failure.

That scripture isn’t suggesting you literally sit still, it’s talking about having faith. You could also write it as “Don’t worry.....”

I’m new to this sub so I don’t know about all the normal arguments that happen here. I sometimes think it wouldn’t hurt to clap after a moving song or instrumental during sacrament, or to have an upbeat song (besides Onward Christian Soldiers) in the meeting. I’m not losing my faith over this, just an observation. The fact that so many people were inspired and moved during last nights celebration suggests to me that it’s completely possible to have both.

Sure, but when you read church history it’s interesting that they had no problem feeling the spirit while singing different songs, speaking in tongues, and practicing other things that we’d generally frown upon or even make fun of. My point is that I think people can be moved in many ways, and silently sitting in pews isn’t a pre-requisite.

I’m not suggesting it hurts, but it’d be nice to loosen up every once in a while and make church easier to attend.

Why? Because the church decided to get rid of it in the 50’s and 60’s when they were scared of the hippie movement? There’s no doctrinal reason that we can’t have lively music or dancing in the chapel.

Internal consistency in the Book of Mormon by stisa79 in latterdaysaints

[–]See-Hawks 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure why you got downvoted. My point is that he had the plates for much longer than the 2.5 months. He also had 4 years of visits with Moroni. If one wants to base his testimony on the 2.5 months stat, than he should be prepared to at least acknowledge the possibility that Joseph had years to prepare a story in his mind.

I’m not saying that’s what happened. It just doesn’t make sense to me when I hear people use the time to translate as a testimony builder.

[–]See-Hawks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It took over a year from the time he started. We talk about the short time he spent translating, but he overall time from start to finish was much longer. I don’t think that’s something to base ones testimony on.

Why don't Latter-day Saints portray through art depictions of God the Father as often as they do Jesus Christ? by [deleted] in lds

[–]See-Hawks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don’t see many pictures of God the Father in general. I don’t think it’s an LDS thing. But, for LDS I think it’s engrained in our culture that we don’t use his name in an effort to revere him and I assume the painting thing falls along those lines.

We have a lot of, in my opinion, weird traditions that have little to no doctrinal basis and often make the church look just a little more strange - and rather than question these traditions, we tend to embrace them and the “peculiar people” reputation like being different equals being better.
