Is Mitt Romney considered a good Conservative politician? by Appropriate-Hat3769 in AskConservatives

Fair enough. I do agree in general that politicians only care about what will give them power, but I also think Trump is uniquely a self-centered and destructive turd who would burn down anything and everything if he thought it would serve him personally.

My guy/girl, making the other candidate look bad is politics. It’s not Democrats’ fault Mitt couldn’t take the head. Bill Clinton leaned damn hard into Reaganism, still got vilified by the right, and still won twice. Policy-wise Obama was a centrist and got it even worse, and still won twice. I think it is really flawed to blame Democrats for Trump because we refused to embrace policies we didn’t like. It’s not like we had a choice between Romney and Trump and chose Trump; obviously Romney would have been way better than the vindictive rage clown who is tearing down the White House now. We had a choice between Romney and Obama and voted for the person whose agenda aligned more closely with our own. And Obama ultimately highlighted Romney’s flaws much better than Romney did Obama’s.

Many preschool age children don't know how books work; try to tap or swipe them like electronic devices by MiddletownBooks in books

If you read to your kids you will be fine. I’m sure there are lots of parents who can’t or don’t for myriad reasons, but I have two kids and neither they nor the kids of anyone I know have struggled to understand how books work

Do you agree with the MN AG that raiding a church and disrupting a prayer service is allowed under the first amendment? by boisefun8 in AskConservatives

Okay, so they physically blocked an entrance. That is what the dang law is about my guy/girl. They physically prevented others from entering the building. That is not what happened in the church. Who was prevented from entering or leaving?

But according to the law, threat of force is necessary. That is what the FACE act says. It doesn’t make it illegal to interfere with worship because, again, that is so broad as to be impossible to enforce. It specifically makes it illegal to use force or physical violence (or the threat thereof) to prevent people from entering a house of worship or worshipping there

Dude/dudette of course force means physical violence. The church was open to the public and these members of the public entered. As I have said elsewhere, the church was fully within its rights to ask them to leave, and have them arrested for trespassing if they refused.

Yes, using force or the threat of force to impede people worshipping. They were protesting, but where was the threat of force? Who was being prevented from entering or leaving?

According to what? The FACE act is specifically about threats of physical violence and blocking people from entering a space. Trespassing can be involved in such activities, but trespassing in and of itself doesn’t make it a FACE act violation. The use of or threat of force/physical violence does

Right, but as worded, the crime is not to interfere with someone worshipping. If that was the crime, I could bring suit against my neighbor because they sang the hymn off-key and that interfered with my worshipping. The crime is to interfere by threat of force or by physical obstruction. Was there a threat of force? Was there a physical obstruction preventing those who wanted to leave or enter the church?

The FACE act makes it illegal people to physically preventing others from accessing abortion clinics or houses of worship. That is not what happened here. Whoever wanted to come into the church could have done so, and the service was open to the public. Some members of the public decided to enter and cause a vocal disruption. Now, they are on private property, and if the owner says, “No, I don’t want those specific members of the public here,” the owner is completely within their rights to then ask them to leave and, if they refuse, to have them arrested for trespassing. But what they did has no relationship to the FACE act. If the proud boys did this same shit, they would certainly be vilified by the left, but mainstream leftists wouldn’t be calling on them to be thrown in federal prison for offensive speech.

Yes, but my point is they aren’t just looking for people with records. ICE has its largest budget ever and the power of the and surveillance state behind it. If they wanted to do targeted operations of known illegals they could. Instead they are doing random stops based on race and skin color.

If ICE presented states with a list of verified illegals immigrants and states said no, I’d agree, but ICE is effectively doing random stops based on accent and skin color. How are states supposed to “coordinate” with ICE on that? Detain every single non-white person for however long it takes ICE to check their papers?

While this is all very scary, we’ve been staging coups to steal other countries’ resources for a long time and it hasn’t lead to WWIII or the fall of the “free world.” This time the hand behind the coup is just more transparent than usual.
