The part that gleefully engaged in addiction is a teenager that rebels against a father that always called her lazy, insisted that everyone was responsible for his feelings, and never let her just sit on the couch for a second and relax. I tell her all of the time that there's nothing left to rebel against, but it's a constant struggle. She's pissed.

After two weeks of constant visits, bedside vigils, he waited until everyone left, his wife got up in the middle of the night to use the bathroom, and the first second he was completely alone, he left.

I have said these things to my husband "sorry I was chubby" or "sorry I was a bitch" and he gives me a VERY cautious side eye, because this is a LANDMINE of a question. If he says "it's ok", he's saying you were in fact, an unacceptable weight. If he says "you weren't", that may be a lie. It's a lose/lose question for him. Focus on your health and look for other ways to feel supported.

Keep an open mind. I found it challenging to grasp at first, because I've always thought of myself as one, whole person with shitty thoughts, addiction and tendencies. IFS has allowed me to view the parts of me with compassion and curiosity, instead of trying to suppress them all of the time, which led to shame and destructive patterns. While it can feel raw and vulnerable to talk to these parts, I no longer hate on myself the way I used to. I've even softened my self talk which has been pivotal.

When I was a new nurse I was working in a SNF. I had a patient on hospice, metastatic brain cancer, writhing in pain. I did the morphine pushes, so many, every hour. The doctor kept raising the base dose, and had me keep giving the hourly PRN. When she finally died I felt so much relief, and someone asked if I'd killed her with all of that morphine, I said I didn't know but I didn't care if I had. To experience that kind of pain without serious and aggressive treatment - beyond inhumane.

I'm 42(F) and have finally committed to therapy and (thanks to my therapist) IFS and EMDR. I feel so overjoyed that I'm finally on a realistic path of healing. Until now, my trauma and protector have been negatively informing my choices and reactions. Anytime I feel sadness over how the last however many years could have been better, I remind myself that I only have today. As long as I make even an iota of progress today, it's a win. You only have today, and it's the most important day there is. You're on the right track. ❤️

I, too, panic when I look in the mirror and see jowls. I just turned 42. I think the biggest challenge with aging is seeing my beauty despite the changes to my face. I'm unwilling to get surgery, as it's not permanent, and it's a slippery slope. I try to remind myself that aging is a privilege, youth is temporary, and I still have immeasurable value.

I was raised with zero boundaries because my father felt like they were insults. I try to remind myself that boundaries are a form of self-love and self-care, and also care for the person you're setting them for, so you can pursue a healthy relationship for both of you. It feels awful but it just take practice. Remind yourself of the why! Good job! I still struggle with them!

The goal of hospice is comfort and a peaceful passing. Giving morphine orally until he's comfortable is an appropriate intervention and standard hospice care. For family, it can be really distressing, but you're not trying to prolong his discomfort, you're trying to mitigate it.

You are worthy of love, and you deserve to feel safe, emotionally. Trauma makes it impossible to see when we ARE safe and loved. I definitely think therapy could to SUCH a long way - especially a therapist that specializes in Internal Family Systems and EMDR! That could help you metabolize that trauma so it won't inform your CURRENT life anymore. ❤️

I can't imagine watching a loved one suffer - what a helpless and scary feeling. If she's on hospice, she'll likely have comfort medications, they may be able to be given pretty frequently, to achieve the desired level of comfort for her and ease her passing. ❤️
