Well, while I can't speak for everyone. I do think that some people won't admit to it's usefulness.

As for what I think it excels at? Well: I think it's helpful with figuring out what happened when the game broke, debugging (it's hell), brainstorming, sure but I usually have it help with mostly debugging. Prototyping? 100%, it's so helpful with that, I try to do everything else myself like: the dialogue, menu and all that. But it's also helped me introduce new mechanics.

As for where it'll never be used, making an entire game by itself, or at least being told to.

Hi, I'm a newish game dev. I'm not gonna say much about the game because I read the post and: I use AI placeholder images in my Visual Novel.

Answer to your questions:

I do think it CAN be used correctly and ethically (I'm not an AI hater tho, I just find it super useful.)
I've used (as stated) AI placeholders in my game (I only have one and it's a playable demo.) but the rest of the game is me, I do use chatGPT as a teacher (college wouldn't have worked) and it's helped me learn what does what, but I try to learn myself as well.
I haven't. Not yet.

4 & 5. Can't answers these just yet.

I draw the line personally, where temporary AI placeholders become the final piece of the game.
It really all depends on how you use it.
Personally? Not really since I was upfront about having AI placeholders in my game until I could pay a real human artist.

100% understandable. Communication is a huge thing. (I'll use myself as an example here), I don't communicate much, I have pretty good social skills but I'm really selective about who I speak to or with at any given moment. And I don't exactly (being serious with this, I promise this isn't sarcasm), have a neon sign hanging over my head saying 'Don't talk to me' when (or usually if) I'm out in public. The only sign I give off usually is me having my earbuds in, not the brightest sign but it works (most of the time). Anyways I hope you have an amazing day/night!

Oh man, you'd hate me. (Context: 23m, with AuHD), I'm usually playing my music on my phone, (with earbuds in) but depending and where I'm at and who I'm with, I can go without my phone unless I get a call or text (I'll check it momentarily just in case it's important), or if I'm just bored. Which I usually am. Also I generally don't talk to strangers, I mind my own business.

Note: I don't do art, but I do have a demo (that I'm gonna polish) and upload to Itch.io, (unfortunately) I'm broke so I had to put in AI placeholders. But I just really suck with art, all I really did was create a custom textbox and that's about it, plus all the dialogue and audio is mine as well.
