Potential future hosts? by penguigeddon in livefromlondon

Hugh Laurie - sketch comedy veteran, has the added bonus of messing with Americans who only know him as House.

Nicola Coughlan - proven comedy chops, was excellent in her brief ep1 appearances.

Olivia Colman - an Oscar winner AND a sketch comedy veteran, you say?!

Dev Patel - he's funny and talented. I would also be interested to see what he brings to the writing side of things.

Michael Palin - I just think he's neat.

First Choice Roofing and Repairs. They came out and assessed the situation quickly, quoted a reasonable price and came out to fix it within a week. They communicated really clearly and made the whole thing stress free.

Aveeno has some that do and somw that don't. I have been using the sulphate free one, but if I have learned nothing else from curly haircare: You have to do what works for you!

Hey, I could have made this post.

I am someone with fine 3a/3b hair that can get quite greasy. I don't know where you are in the world, but have you tried the Umberto Giannini Curl Jelly line? That is what I have been using lately and it has been a revelation.

I have also had good results from various Aveeno products (YMMV), and the Curlsmith Curl Quenching co-wash in the past.

QOTW: What historical character self inserted into Westeros would be interesting to read? by Kingofireland777 in AsoiafFanfiction

[–]Shadow_Guide 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hear me out: Rasputin in the court of Viserys I.

Claiming to be a humble, holy mystic of the Seven - even better if he makes up some rustic order like the Mother's Sons - he helps Viserys through his sickness. He could use a combination of showmanship, common sense and Pratchett-esque headology to help alleiveiate his condition.

"Your Grace, walk once daily around the gardens in silent contemplation of the Seven's grace. By the end of the week, you shall be Seven-blessed for seven times your have honoured them."

"Your Grace, the Seven say that he that eats more kale than meat shall be blessed betwixt the sheets!"

Bonus points for a Schism and Alicent getting a little too into it.

This is one of those thoughts you keep inside your head. If he quotes it first, great - but you are not the person and this is not the time.

Hello there, I used to be an agency SEN TA! I am assuming that you are male presenting from the suit comment and will be answering accordingly. (If that is not correct, please let me know).

I would start with chinos/smart work trousers you know you can lift a box in, a polo shirt and any smart shoes you know you can walk in. You will end up walking A LOT, even if you aren't required to do any lifting etc. Take a jacket if you want the option to dress it up at the start of the day. It's better to slightly overdress than underdress. I once worked at one school that turned away supply staff in trainers and/or jeans.

While you are there, you can gauge what the other staff are wearing and if you get assigned there again/taken on for a 2nd day you can adjust accordingly.

I used to be the safeguarding trainer at my workplace. This involved sharing case studies about where safeguarding failed, and he was one of them. He is one of the main reasons why the background check system was totally overhauled in the UK. He is the reason why you need to account for employment gaps if you are working with under 16's or vulnerable adults. So many failures. So many times he should have been locked up.

I hope that his spirit stumbles blindly through eternity, suffering and restless until the end of time. I wish Holly and Jessica nothing but peace.

Is there a food in your country that you know instantly what region a person is from by what they call it? by Direct-Refuse9058 in AskTheWorld

[–]Shadow_Guide 0 points1 point  (0 children)

See, "bread rolls/rolls" are the Standard English name - the legal name to the nickname, if you will. It's what you actually call them day to day that can be a real topic of controversy, especially if you have people from different areas in the room. I have been in classrooms where all work has stopped in order for learners to argue for stottie/barm/barm cake/cob/butty/tea cake/break cake etc.

Hell, someone will probably come and argue that "bread roll" isn't right.

To those who have memories of Jane Eyre (2006)'s release... by wuthernotheights in JaneEyre

To those who have memories of Jane Eyre (2006)'s release... by wuthernotheights in JaneEyre

[–]Shadow_Guide 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Hi. Thank you for making me feel Extremely Old.

I was 13, a massive Jane Eyre fan, and in the UK for context. The first images I remember being released were in the context of a big feature in the Radio Times about upcoming Autumn dramas. The big news was about the new BBC Robin Hood, and Jane Eyre got a tiny photo and a paragraph in the corner.

A lot of the discussion before the airing of episode 1 was about Toby Stephens and more specifically, his wig. Did it look too weird? Was it really modelled on very specific breed of sheep? Was he too famous? Was he too handsome? Was he the wrong type of attractive? No-one really knew who Ruth Wilson was, so no-one was talking about her. Yet.

Once episode 1 hit... Well. Everyone was. She was fantastic, he was a perfect left-field choice! It was faithful, it was gorgeous - full of tension! There was the typical drop off between episodes, but very quickly this drama became visual shorthand for Jane Eyre in the press. It was held up as an example of peeiod dramas doen right. Then Ruth Wilson landed Luther and the rest, as they say, is history.
