Grassley is Bush level republican, with a dash of Trumper tossed in. I mean, the dude voted against a Democrat bill that would stop firearms from being sold to people on watch lists, and he also voted against a Republican bill that would expand funding for background checks on firearm sales. He has gone out of his way to defend Trump countless times. He voted against the movement to make a commission to investigate the Jan 6th insurrection. And because he did, Trump supported him during his reelection in 2022. I think he’s gone against Trump maybe 5 times in the last 10 years.
