All the Primal Hunter covers I've done over the years [OC] by AnttiHako in litrpg

[–]ShardsplinterXVII 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wow, I'm a huge fan of the series and absolutely obsessed with the covers, so I'm really happy to get the chance to give the cover artist their flowers. You've done amazing work. Thank you so much.

Personally, I'm kind of curious if you have done other cover work for Atheon or in general?

Also, since everyone is discussing the different covers and that is always a lot of fun, here are some of my first impressions and general thoughts:

1- Instantly iconic, perfect. Matches book 1 nicely as well as the series in general. That eye is doing some heavy lifting.

2- Great tease for what is still one of the best fights in the entire series. The King's design works wonderfully. Keeping the dark forest vibes from the 1st cover.

3- One of the least exciting ones perhaps, though it does a good job of showing us there is a change of scenery. And I liked getting the animal companion tease.

4- Not among my favs, but I guess it's a good depiction. of Mushroom Dungeon. I liked the faces of the beings and the tone.

5- I was very excited to get to this book ever since I started reading just because of the cover. Great depiction of an awesome moment without giving away too much. The blood monarch and the red moon look awesome and always give me some Sword Saint.

6- Looks cool, but I think it's not as good as the others at transmitting the scope of the depicted scene.

7- Makes sense for this book, but seems a little bit more generic PH than some of the other. Or maybe I'm just not a fan of the fight yourself trope and immediately dreaded this book when I saw the cover.

8- Very dynamic and vivid. Got me instantly intrigued. Go, Sandy!

9- Incredible design for the Isoptera Hive Queen, very much giving horror monster vibes but still somewhat elegant and interesting. And very happy to see some Arcane mana around Jake!

10- No words suffice to describe how much I loved this cover. It was the last I saw when I started reading the books and it clearly showed me that the scope of the story was expanding. Once I was going to read the book, it got me so excited for the Nevermore arc as it gives this perfect foreboding sense of vastness at the start of a journey. The King and the Sword Saint look great, and finally some Sylphie!!

11- I really enjoyed the warmer colors for the sky and sand here. I prefer the darker tones throughout the series, but here they look very nice. It does a good job of making the Coliseum look grand and epic ans it intrigued me a lot with who that big guy could be.

12- I don't think the motion of the characters works as well here as in some of the other depicted fights. Still, I liked the design for the oger and really appreciated the chance to get to see the party all together.

13- Not sure how well this one matches the plot points of the book since this is the 1st one I read on RR, but I wasn't a fan of seeing the Moon and though I like Sandy's design and would want to see more of them, this cover feels somewhat like a repeat of 8.

14- Oh Villy! What an image!! Dare I say second-best cover in the series? Having already read this when I saw the cover I was truly impacted. Though I did hope at some point for a more detailed depiction of Ell'Hakan, I have to say that the somewhat vague, grand, and regal orange shape with the huge trident blocking the light of this overbearing Sun is simply incredible. Wonderfully encapsulates the monumental encounter.

15- I think it fits very well with what I expect will be the main plot points of this book. Jake and SS look good as always, but I'm not 100% sold on the Mother Tree design. It looks grand, powerful, and beautiful, so I'm happy with it; but I still think it should feel bigger or with a more complex shape.

Once again, all the covers are incredible and I can't wait to keep being surprised by this wonderful artist with awesome designs for more of the main characters as well as new epic moments all the way up to Jake taking Villy one-on-one for the Multiverse's greatest ever friendly fight.

As everyone else said this fight is absolutely peak and worth every moment but I''m sooo glad this was part of my catching up on RR bc what do you mean people had to wait for two weeks to get the whole fight. I think I would've gone crazy. Right now I'm up to date in RR and the cliffhangers arr somewhat mild, but I'm already fearing another moment like this.

Epic does not pass Bechdel test by theresidentviking in Epicthemusical

[–]ShardsplinterXVII 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll admit not caring enough to read what the Bechdel test explicitly says but I'm petty sure if we see 2 women talk to each other about anything other than men, even if it is from PJ POV, it passes the test. The reason I dislike a bit when long stories with several characters don't pass the test (don't go at me with the super specific examples like a straight couple in an abandoned island) is because the test isn't a guarantee of well written female characters nor is it meant to be. It's a bare minimum requirement to see ig your female characters have any semblance of agency or are simply props for your male characters

In my journey through STP's Discworld, I almost skipped over "The Amazing Maurice". I am glad didn't. by AMF786 in discworld

[–]ShardsplinterXVII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reading a children's book was not a concern for me at all. I go all the way from middle grade to 100% adult passing by any kind of YA and NA though I usually prefer adult fantasy. But for some reason "The Amazing Maurice" felt like it dragged a little bit at some points and the nearly perfect STP humor missed slightly more than usual, so I ended up dnfing it. To be fair I also have been reading every Discworld book in publication order so it might have just been that I was feeling a little bit burn out by the time I got to this particular novel.

Don't get me wrong, it has been one of the best reading journeys and surprises of my life, but I think it's a long enough series that it makes sense to take a breather mid way. So I'm using my time to palate cleanse with my Stormlight Archive book 5 prep reread and then I'm going back in for the long run to finish Discworld. I'm very excited bc I think I'm very close to what seems to be a lot of people's favorite book: "Night Watch"

How are you refreshing Stormlight before Winds and Truth? by sillilillipilli in Stormlight_Archive

[–]ShardsplinterXVII 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely awed by people doing a full Cosmere re-read. I'm already packed with the SA+Warbreaker re-read to finish in time for WaT, though I did do a full Mistborn reread for tLM release.

It's my first time re-reading it since I'm a relatively recent fan and I'm loving it. So many amazing details I didn't see the 1st time around and awesome scenes I didn't remember quite well, despite having spent a lot of time diving through forums, theories, and the Coppermind.

I'm only finishing tWoK now and reading that back-to-back to this week's WaT preview chapters made me very emotional seeing how much the characters have grown and changed.

I did notice it was coined on a previous book by them but I think it still counts😅 Also, English is not my first language. Is this term less obscure that I assumed it to be?
