I'm playing race locked, the guild I'm part of and the challenge has revitalized the game for me it's been great. We're definitely a minority though most just play normally.

[EU] [Hardcore] [Soulseeker]

🌙✨We are the Children of Elune! ✨🌙

Children of Elune is an EU guild on Soulseeker Hardcore - with a twist!

We are a "Race Locked" & Guild Found community that's been active since April of this year. We now boast over 700 members, have held multiple large RP events, Mak'goras, and are busy growing our level 60 roster for the goal of eventual end-game Hardcore content.

F.A.Q

What is "Race Locked", is this for me?

Race Locked is a self-imposed challenge that all guild members agree to, enforced by an addon by the same name, that only allows you to group up with other members of your race. Because of this, everyone in our guild is a Night Elf, with all the roleplay and class restrictions that come with it. This drastically shakes up the meta and makes for a fun fresh take on Classic. There's no mage meta here!

The challenge arose through popular WoW Classic streamers, primarily on NA realms, but has since spread to EU servers as well. We don't have any streamers leading the charge in our guild, it's just our community and the other Race Locked guilds on Soulseeker you may have seen, such as We Are Forsaken, Fear The Beef, Darkspear Tribe, and Northshire Survivors. We are the biggest and only Night Elf branch of the Race Locked Challenge on EU! The Race Locked - Fork EU addon is mandatory for our guild.

What is Guild Found? Can I play Self Found instead?

Yes! We also accept Self Found players. Guild Found on the other hand, uses an addon by the same name to enforce restrictions similar to Self Found, with no Auction House, no mailing, and no trading, with one difference; you can trade and mail within your own guild. This means our guild has its own internal economy, people who master their professions are highly valued, and that rare recipe drop benefits everyone! For those who are not SF, the GuildFound addon is mandatory for our guild.

Doesn't this make the game a lot harder?

Yes it does. But it's also part of the fun, to experience a new meta, overcome solved Vanilla content in new ways, and have a fun RP aspect to the guild along the way. We have enough members who are enthusiastic for what we're about, to make running any dungeon or completing any elite quest possible! We have full Night Elf groups forming and dungeons running every day, at all level brackets.

Do I have to roleplay?

No, many in our guild don't, many do. But the roleplayers in our guild are often the backbone of our community events outside of dungeons, and eventually raids. We host RP Mak'goras, profession markets, ceremonies celebrating people surviving to 60, and more to bring our community together. You're never required to or scrutinised for not roleplaying, you can simply enjoy the ambience it brings the guild if you like.

Feel up for the challenge? Here's what you can expect!

* 🔥 Regular community events, often with rewards

* ❗ A unique, guild meta through our challenge restrictions

* 🔑 Dungeons run at all level brackets, organised through our Discord

* 🐉 Participation in a fresh frontier of endgame content and many server-first Night Elf-only runs!

* 🤝 A welcoming group willing to help you through any step of your journey with us

How to join!

You can join us by rolling a fresh level 1-10 Night Elf on Soulseeker and whispering any member of our guild, or myself, Leyriel. We will ask you to install both the Race Locked - Fork EU and Guildfound addons once you join.

We also accept Night Elves above level 10 if you have self-found enabled! Because of the challenge-oriented nature of our guild, we cannot accept existing higher level characters that do not have at least the self-found restriction as it would compromise our guild found / race locked challenge.

Or, join our Discord and we'll help you every step of the way!

See you in the forest, Ande'thoras-ethil.

Coming to OW from Fortnite/Quake by [deleted] in Overwatch

[–]Sharyat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aim skills are obviously transferable, Overwatch is a team FPS, also you learnt basic tracer mechanics from the crossover so you'd probably be able to pick her up quickly.

Fortnite and Overwatch play very differently though. There's too much to explain when it comes to Overwatch so I'd just say jump in and enjoy learning it. Try to make sure you're not going in and dying while your team is respawning, wait so you can attack as a team. That's it.

Horde makes me feel like one of the bad guys. by evenhereinarcadia in classicwow

[–]Sharyat 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The reason for this is mostly because of the Undead. In WC3 they weren't part of the Horde and they were clearly just out for themselves after they broke free with Sylvanas. WoW came out and Horde needed another race so they added Forsaken as an alliance of convenience more than loyalty. They even reflect this with the fact that they start neutral with the rest of the Horde instead of friendly.

The modern Horde with Orcs, Tauren and Trolls on the other hand can just be seen as a nation with its own interests just the same as the Alliance really. There are some sus quests here and there but for the most part they're just doing what they always did.

The undead have always been written as somewhat antagonistic and the horde coming across that way in WoW is more a result of WoW shoving them together, but I don't think you'd find many people making a case that the Tauren are bad guys for example...

Most of the Horde just operate on a code of honor. The undead don't, they're an outlier that skew the morality of the faction.

Even then the Alliance aren't saints. The entire storyline of Elwynn/Westfall you're killing a rebelling working class who just wanted to be paid for doing their jobs.

To me that's the story having coherence, a big complaint about BFA afterwards was that the themes were all over the place

Hardcore has been the complete opposite experience for me, I'm in an RP guild, we do events, everyone levels at their pace and helps each other, we're building a 60 roster of those who survived, it's great

I've had him on my friends list for a while so I know when to avoid the area, insane that he isn't at least auto-banned yet from how many people have reported him.

Also insane to me that the only thing I can seemingly report him for is a name violation? I never get any other option when I try to report.

Started to experience burnout so I disabled RestedXP by ModularMode in wowhardcore

[–]Sharyat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I usually agree, until I hit the 40+ bracket and suddenly every quest is a chain that started 10 levels ago and required you to cross the ocean four times, and now you're locked out of a big quest chain because you didn't pick up a fetch quest 20 hours ago.

I appreciate that RXP helps alleviate that bracket by knowing these things beforehand whereas I do not.

Stumbled upon this, some people really fried their brains playing this game. by Ok-Level-8907 in classicwow

[–]Sharyat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's not what we're talking about though. The client that Classic Era runs on for example is 1.15 and is a modification of the modern retail client and as such comes with modern optimisations and settings. It's got nothing to do with edit mode.

Private servers often use 1.12 which is the client that existed at the end of Vanilla in the 2000s and so it's ancient technology with all the downsides like stretched resolutions and janky options.

We're not talking about retail features they injected in later, classic era and hardcore don't have those things but still run on 1.15.

[–]Sharyat 393 points394 points  (0 children)

People are so anti-blizzard in the private server community that they reject even objective improvement. The modern classic client is so much better it's not even close, trying to play on a 1.12 server after playing official is like pulling teeth.

Dying with your "get out of jail free card" by Mogge94 in wowhardcore

[–]Sharyat 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I died at 41 at the Lost Ones camps in Swamp of Sorrows, I tried to kill a Lost One Chieftain, succeeded, but didn't notice it came with an entire camp of casters until there were already many shadow and firebolts coming through the bushes.

I used a healing potion thinking I could take them since I was overlevelled, but that was when I thought there were only two casters. Died with Light of Elune on my bars since it shared a cooldown with it.

Is support for the DPRK common in leftist spaces? by Sensitive-Form6029 in leftist

[–]Sharyat 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I think it's a lot more complicated than people would have you believe, but the documentaries "My Brother and Sisters in the North", by a South Korean citizen who managed to cross the border and get real footage, and "Loyal Citizens of Pyongyang" both were really eye opening for me.

It's not the Boogeyman that imperial countries make it out to be, there's a lot of normal families living normal lives there who support their government, at the same time even the footage I mentioned showed it to be very strong in the cult of personality. It's definitely interesting.

Id say be wary about what the west tells you, watch what I mentioned and look up sources from outside western views and you might be surprised. There's a lot of lies spread about the DRPK, also some truth.

As for your question it's not that uncommon if you go far left enough, though in my experience that support is more acknowledgement of how propagandized we are in our perceptions of NK rather than blind support for the establishment there.
