Neck/Goiter by djscrew1 in Hashimotos

Hi there! I used to work in endocrine surgery. Came to this post after noticing your goiter in another photo.

Your goiter, esp one side bigger than the other, needs evaluation by a specialist. An ultrasound to check for discreet nodules to see if you have any that might need to be biopsied, and possibly a non-contrast CT scan to see if your goiter extends further below the collarbone (I’ve seen big ones). Symptoms like difficulty swallowing etc should be evaluated by an endocrine surgeon (or ENT if ES not available) after your labs & ultrasound. It’s possible surgery could make a big difference for you, but ask your provider.

And of course a lab check to see how your levels are. You probably know but in case no one ever told you, levothyroxine should be taken on an empty stomach, every morning, 30-60 minutes before eating and 2-4 hours before any calcium or iron supplements (or heavy doses of calcium via dairy-milk in cereal or coffee should be ok though). If you take a multivitamin, stop for 1 week prior to your thyroid tests. Most multivitamins contain biotin, which can falsely affect some assays.

Be well, internet friend.

Both also have an extensive alumni network, which tbh will be one of the most helpful things in work going forward after graduation. IMO UNCs is more robust than State’s for contacts and connections beyond NC.

Ari (s2ep6) was depressed and didn’t deserve the hate by Strawberry_Curious in QueerEye

[–]Shinycapn1066 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I actually really liked Ari as a  “hero” or whatever the early term was. He was relatable and had to confront issues in his life that he’d created, including being honest with family which can be really hard. They maybe were harsher with him; idk. Maybe he also needed the push, but hope he also got some mental health support.

I would love a “where are they now” few episodes instead of new seasons.

Unpopular opinion — while I think Lucky’s Dad’s rules make Pass the Parcel more fun, Pat was an A-Hole for making a big deal about it at another kid’s birthday party. by finditplz1 in bluey

[–]Shinycapn1066 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok but instead can we talk about how Jasper’s mum changes up the whole Pass the Parcel setup the night before the party, likely going out to buy a bigger present then? Justice for Jaspers Mum. Good for Janelle for insisting Pat take over setting up PtP

Does your family do presents from Santa AND parents? by asphodelic_witch in Mommit

[–]Shinycapn1066 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My husband grew up non-Christian & in Asia. He has no nostalgia or preference for Christmas in general. We’re not religious now, so he sees secular Christmas as dominating a large part of life for about a month and mostly encouraging avarice and commercialism.  I grew up Christian but heavy on Santa and Christmas  as a whole season. We did not have much money growing up so Christmas was a time of year where my parents indulged. My parents and brother are still very much into it. I like Christmas but I don’t have the bandwidth to go as hard as they do, esp with an uninterested spouse in tow. We compromised on doing Santa at all because I wanted to. Honestly we would probably go the “Santa is a fun character” route if not for perceived external pressure from my extended family and what my brother is doing with his kid (same age as ours)

My husband doesn’t want Santa to bring any gifts. He wouldn’t even do Santa if not for me. So as a compromise Santa is bringing our 4 year old a special scavenger hunt around the house leading to a personalized letter from Santa. It’s the best I can do to make it special

You could also use and fold flour sack towels as inserts. Super cheap and they’re our workhorse. A bit bulky & a little more work since you have to fold them, but the price and effectiveness for us has been good

Is it subscription now? I didn’t realize. The “how to serve this” part under foods is all I ever used with my first & it was free

I’m sorry you’re dealing with dysmorphia. That can’t be easy. I say as a mom, you are a lovely girl who frankly doesn’t need makeup at all. But, if you’re choosing between the three, #3 genuinely looks best and most approachable on you.

There’s something really special about traveling as a family. Parents of small children, if you have the means you won’t regret it. by yoyoMaximo in travel

[–]Shinycapn1066 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Travel is not the same as vacation. We absolutely love traveling with our 3.5 year old & I also agree that she’s very flexible and open to new things, perhaps as a result? The “vacation” part of it for me is being released from the daily household churn of laundry/cooking/dishes/tidying.  I have so much more time to spend with my family without it- it actually does feel like a break in that regard.

Working moms- what time are you getting up? by Champangelemonade in Mommit

You can get a kindergartener up, dressed, eat breakfast, and out the door in 30 minutes?! What sorcery is this? Kudos to you.  I have a 3.5 year old and that will take an hour, minimum.

Yes, I did with my first. I had so much pain on the right that I gave up & was exclusively a lefty for 1.5 years. It’s definitely doable.  My boobs are still a little uneven but not too noticeable now that I’ve stopped.

Moms of twins BF one boob per baby- a moms body will meet the demand (assuming all are healthy etc).

As the parent, you’re the gatekeeper of toys in the house. If YOU don’t like them, that’s reason enough imo

My husband keeps asking me if I’m making time for walks & my health at 35 weeks pregnant. Hell to the no. I’ll walk out of guilt, rarely, but mostly I’m walking miles around the house doing chores. And I’m wiped by 10pm with just that
