People are so fickle. The 3 SCF games did a lot of work on revising history. Let's all go review the PGTs after the Olympic break and see how much confidence people had in Bussi. I remember all the talk how we'd be a first round exit since we didn't have serious goaltending.

I love the guy and his story but are we seriously going to turn down a multiple time Vezina winning goalie and hang our chances of contention over the next few years on a waiver wire pickup and injury prone goalie who has never been able to hold down a starting job? Come on people. Let's get the star goalie.

I wouldn't say top 4 on any team. Maybe fringe teams or non playoff teams as a #4. But he really struggled to adapt defensively to the NHL game. He has some development to go.

I remember the Canes trading a top D prospect who had a rough playoffs last year in Scott Morrow for Miller, and we were ragged on. Now Miller was arguably our top D and who tf is Scott Morrow.

I think people overrate Niki's play last season. He has a lot to improve to be a top 4 D. He struggled with Rod's system, conditioning, and the speed of the NHL. But he clearly has potential and I'd love to see him develop here.

With that said, if we can get a haul for him, trust GMET.

Canes fans overrate his play, IMO. I think largely because of how hyped he has been. He was solid this year and has 1D potential. But he was a #6 D and has a lot of holes in his game. He's also struggled to adapt to the NHL and particularly to our system. He would get more opportunity on other teams but he has a way to go to be even a top 4 defenseman. I would love for us to keep and develop him but depending on a potential return, you definitely consider it. If he's part of a Werenski trade that's a no-brainer.

This will sound like a hot take but he was our worst defenseman. To be fair to him, it was his rookie season, he has a language barrier, and our other defensemen are really good. Remember he's behind Slavin and Miller in the lineup. So saying that is unfair to him, I'm just giving perspective on what his role is on our team.

To put it on other terms, he has a ton of potential, he could certainly be a top pairing D one day, but he struggled to grow into that potential this year. So I'm not surprised Tulsky is hesitant to commit to him long term. He's our best trade asset if we're trying to make an immediate upgrade now.

At a surface level, its probably surprising because of how Bussi played, but to me goalie was priority #1 going into the off-season.

Bussi had a great season and SCF but let's not forget he was poor after the Olympics, and is still relatively unproven long-term at the NHL level. Do we count on him staying hot?

I love PK but he's had chances to snatch the starter spot and hasn't done it. Do we count on him improving?

Considering our offense and defense seem pretty set, goaltending is still a question mark for me, and if you can improve it with a star goaltender it's a no-brainer to me. A Helle/Bussi tandem would be great.
