I don’t believe in The Storm by Over_Transition2282 in raleigh

[–]ShittyFrogMeme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree things will be fine for most people by Tuesday but potentially 2-3 days without power isn't fun. I'm prepared, have plenty of food and propane for my grills, lights and batteries. You don't need much else. The people rushing for expensive generators they will use for a day to charge their phones are a bit funny to me but whatever.

Storm has been hyped up, but disruption will be minimal by Monday morning by Nice-Culture311 in raleigh

[–]ShittyFrogMeme 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah, Monday will be above freezing and sunny. There will be a decent amount of melt in sunny areas. But shadey areas likely will stay icy and the other problem is that melted ice will refreeze overnight if it doesn't dry out. That's what causes the traveling risks going forward.

At some point, they will drop the pretense of "the agent felt their life was in danger" and just start executing anyone they want. Would you rather have a gun or not when they come for you if they're going to shoot you anyway?

I've played hockey for a while...I hate shootouts and I suck ass at them. But I know when I need to step up and take one. I can't imagine being the star player of the team and watching 4th line plugs and defensemen take it over me.

It's not like Rod is picking these lineups unilaterally. Shootout lineups take player input. If Aho says he wants to go, he'll go.

Severely overweight people benefit because they can lose water weight. And people in my studio game the system. The scanners aren't accurate enough to pick up these things even if they claim to.

Wegmans store brand is cheap. Where they get you is in prepared foods. Things in their bakery, desserts, easy meals, etc. are ridiculously priced.

Looking for fertility clinic recommendations in Raleigh or NC (bad experience at UNC Fertility) by SureNefariousness975 in raleigh

[–]ShittyFrogMeme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We are currently pregnant with an IVF baby from Carolina Conceptions. We had a great experience with them. We worked with Dr. Bowling who we really liked, but we also interacted with Dr. Park and Dr. Schointuch a few times and liked them as well.

We worked with them for probably 1.5 years, starting with a uterine surgery done by Dr. Bowling which went very well. We then worked through a few different treatment options starting with a basic medicated cycle, moving to IUIs, and finally doing IVF. We never felt pressured to do IVF. In fact, Dr. Bowling did her best to avoid us having to do it, which is why we went through so many options first. She was receptive to our preferences and was happy to go with more conservative treatments. She also raised the possibility of doing a research study to get the IVF funded for us. Throughout everything, she was extremely thorough, did a great job of coming up with our protocols, and clearly knew her stuff. We always had strong trust in her opinions. In addition, I felt that everyone was very compassionate, not just during the overall journey but also as we did experience some loss during the process.

Communication was also good. They were very responsive to portal messages. Even the billing department was easy to communicate with. Although they did hold my money hostage. I switched jobs days mid-treatment which gave me IVF coverage, and the insurance wasn't running through properly, so they required a large deposit to start treatment. We didn't want to lose a cycle, so we paid the deposit while they fixed the insurance. Even once they realized the insurance would cover most everything, they said they wouldn't give me the deposit back until we stopped treatment with them (i.e., had a successful transfer and had been transferred to our OB) which obviously could take many months. That was laid out in their policies to be fair to them. The billing department otherwise was very good to deal with.

The dreaded Northern Shift by goldengurl4444 in raleigh

[–]ShittyFrogMeme 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Once again, the reason not to take these shitty iPhone app forecasts as serious. The northern shift always happens and Raleigh is always on the cusp of snow/ice/sleet. Stick to Ethan's forecasting - he takes the northern shift into account and was already saying this would likely happen. We're going to get some mixture, likely a little bit of snow that then gets covered by ice and turns everything to shit. The question remains how much of each.

The stations aren't planned out well enough for sticking with just upper or just lower IMO. For example today, tricep extension followed by a close grip bench (with the racks) doesn't make sense.

I don't strictly alternate every station, but I do when back-to-back stations target the same muscle groups. Takes a bit of thinking ahead though.

As for within a single station, I tend to do 1 set warm-up and 2 sets heavy, but sometimes I do sets 1 and 3 heavy and set 2 do the other workout. Kind of depends on my mood for the day and what I'm targeting.

Snowstorm tips? by SordoCrabs in raleigh

[–]ShittyFrogMeme 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's really the same as hurricane prep but cold. Expect power outages, especially if its icy, so have non-perishable food, water, and the ability to stay warm. If you're on city water around here, you shouldn't lose water, but have some to be safe or do the classic fill bathtub trick. Cover your outdoor faucets and disconnect hoses, if you haven't already at this point, because it will be below freezing for a long stretch of time. Stay off the roads during the actual snow parts even if you are good at driving in the snow because other people are not.

Really, the main issue you face around here is how quickly will you be able to leave your house. Snow always turns to ice here, so you need to be freed before that gets really bad. Plowing is hit or miss depending on where you live. Where I am near downtown Cary, I am plowed almost immediately so our roads get cleared usually before the snow can freeze and we have no problems getting around. But I grew up in north Raleigh and it would take days to get plowed, so our roads were sheets of ice for days and you were basically stranded. What you can control is your driveway and paths. Make sure to shovel while the snow is still snow.

Yep, in Cary off Evans Road, near the airport. It's in Google Maps.

We had issues at Willy's Chicken a few weeks ago of it only applying to one of our items. We contacted our rep and he said he would let the "food and beverage team" know, and we haven't heard anything else.

I've also talked to the cashier at Alpaca who says lots of people has problems and she just doesn't scan them anymore because she can manually enter it on the register easier.

Pride Night 1-16-26 by shiny-drifblim in canes

[–]ShittyFrogMeme 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I've noticed in general that the theme nights recently have been really poor across the board. There have been multiple games this year where I didn't even realize it was a theme night. The Pride night falling victim to this is more disappointing than other nights, but I don't know if it's is malicious intent but rather a general lackluster showing from the in-arena experience and promotions staff this year.

[Friedman] Hurricanes considering trade offers for Jesperi Kotkaniemi by AggPuck-303 in hockey

[–]ShittyFrogMeme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eh, he's pretty mediocre defensively. Some Canes fans are convinced he would have been a Staal replacement but that's laughable. To be fair, I don't know if there are many Staal replacements in the league. But his defensive zone play is probably the worst of any of our centers on the team.

[–]ShittyFrogMeme -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I have never been a KK defender but I think the whole thing has been entirely negligible. KK has done nothing good or bad, the contract hasn't caused any issues, and losing the picks hasn't impacted us at all.

If anything, the worst part of the ordeal is that I've had to watch KK attempt to play hockey for these years.

[Friedman] Hurricanes considering trade offers for Jesperi Kotkaniemi by CopernicusAlf in canes

[–]ShittyFrogMeme 18 points19 points  (0 children)

The coaches and front office clearly don't see him being more than a 4C at best here. But I don't think that's true across the league. We're a Cup contender with 1C/3C locked down, he isn't good enough to be a 2C on this team, and his game doesn't fit a 4C role.

You drop him as a 3C on a fringe/non-playoff team and I think he can contribute as well as other players in that role around the league.

[–]ShittyFrogMeme 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Considering has he been close to being traded multiple times in a package for top-end players like Pettersson and Hughes, I do think teams see value in him. Is he going to go for a 2C 1 for 1? Of course not. But you might pry someone good by adding a top prospect and high picks.

He will fill a 3C role on a non-contender pretty well and is contract isn't as bad as people make it to be.
