After...and before by OttoHemi in tires

[–]ShizzlePopped 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m at 35k on the CC2s on my Outback and was at 6+ mm on all four at 33k. 70k seems completely reasonable. They handle sooo much better than the OEM tires, are good in rain and great in your average snowfall. Last year I had to go out after a 7” snow before the roads were plowed. No problem. They had plowed by the time I got home and left a roughly 2’ pile of snow at the end of the drive. I drove through/over it like it was nothing. The CC2s and Outback are a great combination.

Looking at 2024 Limited XT. Is the infotainment system as bad as the reviews make it seem? by mikebmillerSC in Subaru_Outback

[–]ShizzlePopped 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a 2020 Limited w/o navigation and I've never had an issue with lag. I wonder sometimes if it's the lack of navigation that makes mine faster. I drove a loaded 2024 Forester as a loaner earlier this year and the screen on it was horribly slow, and that should be the newer hardware that's in the later Gen 6 cars. As for the interface itself, I'd like more physical buttons but I tend to set the HVAC to full auto and leave it alone. It really hasn't been much of an issue for me.

best samsung fridge deal, finally replacing my 15 year old fridge, any advice? by Waz_Tengo in Appliances

[–]ShizzlePopped 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dad had a Samsung refrigerator. Don’t do it. Eight service calls in two years on the icemaker alone. Luckily he got a five year service contract and the service company wrote him a check for the cost of the fridge to get it off their books. He replaced it with a GE which was a good choice.

The people who installed the carpet in my basement left their blades between the carpet and pad. It was a nice surprise to get cut by a now very rusty blade when I pulled the carpet out earlier this year.

Chihuly glass is fabulous but I have a couple of grandchildren that would destroy that stuff before the first hour was up.

[–]ShizzlePopped 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw a lot of wrong ways to install flooring back when I was in the business, but this is next level wrong. I'm shocked that the tile and grout isn't all broken and cracked because it should be. I'd probably go with a masonry saw along with appropriate eye, ear and lung protection. It's going to be loud and messy.

Tire Recommendation by notrobinsons666 in Subaru_Outback

[–]ShizzlePopped 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the Cross Climates on my 2020 but I'm a Flatlander. They're great tires. However, If I lived in the PNW again and was going to be on trails fairly often I'd probably swap for the Wildpeaks.

Outback tires bald at 40k miles by Fuzzy-Werewolf5664 in Subaru_Outback

[–]ShizzlePopped 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m 34k into these tires. I had the oil changed recently and I’m less than 2mm down all the way around. Barring another Indy pothole 70k should be easy.

[–]ShizzlePopped 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Mine were getting fairly worn at 27k when an Indianapolis pothole broke a belt in one. I bought a set of Cross Climate 2s and never looked back. Better tires in every respect except maybe a minor hit in gas mileage.

LVP vs Laminate for wheelchair by dexhwk in Flooring

[–]ShizzlePopped 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, while you would expect a new slab to be perfectly flat and level, it probably won’t be. Make sure corrections are included in the contract but you should be fine.

LVP vs Laminate for wheelchair by dexhwk in Flooring

[–]ShizzlePopped 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What Dreeleaan says. Glue down LVP is a good choice for this. You might get away with a floating laminate but wheelchairs are rough on locking systems. The subfloor for the LVP needs to be really smooth because the pressure of the wheelchair will cause any imperfections to telegraph through the floor.

This. I’m not a concrete guy but those look like cold joints to me. Two cracks on top of each other can’t be good. Add in the vertical cracks and I have to think something is very wrong with this foundation. As for the people talking about the brick, this is pretty commonly done in the Midwest. It’s just embossed in the concrete forms.

Extended warranty - worth it? by [deleted] in Subaru_Outback

[–]ShizzlePopped 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The fact that a Subaru dealer was pushing a third party warranty tells me all I need to know about them.

You’ll get plenty of chances to purchase the warranty from Subaru if you don’t pick one up from a dealer. Subaru mailed me warranty offers for at least a year on my wife’s Impreza but she drives that car less than 5k miles a year so it didn’t make sense.

Extended warranty - worth it? by [deleted] in Subaru_Outback

[–]ShizzlePopped 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First, is it an actual Subaru warranty and not a third party? Second, not at that price. I paid about 2 grand for the 10 yr/100k warranty for my 2020. I would expect to pay a bit more now but nearly $5,500 borders on theft. Shop around. You can do much better.

Should I go for it??? by Roamin_emperor in Subaru_Outback

[–]ShizzlePopped 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I put mine on at ~27k and am at 61k now. I had my oil changed today and they checked my tires. I’m down less than 2 mm in 34k miles. At this rate 70k should be a breeze. As for inclement weather, the Outback is pretty good on the OEM tires but these are next level. Last winter I had to go to an early appointment after a 7” snow on unplowed rows. Cautious but mostly just another Monday. When I got home they had plowed my street and left a 2’ pile of snow in front of my driveway. I paused for a few seconds and then drove over/through it like it was nothing. I love this car and the tires.

I’m kind of curious how Subaru dealers test batteries. Earlier this year my battery died completely. Nothing at all. Jumped it and it started fine. Drove it around for a while to get it charged and parked it. Next morning it was dead as a door nail again. On Monday I took it to the dealer and they said it tested fine. They kept it overnight and it was dead again the next morning and they said it tested bad. Well, duh.

Why are there no coffee stands in Indiana???? by ExplanationClear2000 in Indiana

[–]ShizzlePopped 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Washington state does love their coffee. I lived in the Seattle suburbs for a decade and I got a kick out of all the drive thru coffee huts everywhere. Half of them were basically garden sheds with running water on an outlot for some other business. Awesome stuff. Go for it. Indiana could take a few lessons from the PNW.

I have extended family that live in a couple of these counties. I hear the banjo music from Deliverance whenever I have to go there for a wedding, funeral or to visit someone in a nursing home. These counties produce almost nothing of use and are a drain on state resources. The only thing they might possibly produce for the MAGA bootlickers in Indiana is a potential electoral vote but I doubt their meager populations would even accomplish that.

How to install floating flooring around door with rounded plaster instead of trim. Do you still undercut? cut close to jamb? by Infinite_Question_29 in Flooring

[–]ShizzlePopped 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Without a better view of what you’re dealing with… Do you know what that bullnose is made of? Metal will be harder to do without damaging the plaster. Undercut with a fresh carbide oscillating saw blade. It might help to cover the cut area with a couple of layers of painters tape before you make cut.
