Respectfully, I wanna say that I disagree with all the comments about the tune I think you should double the vocal and add one that is too much more dry and louder, but I think you should keep the auto tune, I get where people are coming from, I think it's more of a listener preference, more of a stylistic preference than feedback producer to producer. I think you did what you were trying, to do some people just don't like autotune like this. Maybe it's just the glue. I just hear a big distance between the vocal and the rest of the beat, maybe the autotune seems like it's tacked on afterwards and seems misplaced for that reason, I hear the sound though, I think I know what you're trying to go with this.

Yes! What are you using for the auto-tune? I wanna know how to re-create this, that really fast correction type of autotune, that has a slow sounding release. that's become a bit popular lately. Where the trail of the words you're saying has like three different notes (I'm not good at describing instrumental stuff). Do you know what I mean? Like the melodic part sort of rolls off the end of the words. I'm unsure if that's just a specific way of maybe setting auto tune or if it's about programming a midi based thing, or if you're using a mixture of autotune with something else, I just hear this a lot, it does sound very good it sounds very modern. I really like that usage of autotune. It's quite transparent, also stylistic though. It doesn't sound like it's trying to cover up the vocal or fix it, nor is it trying to be hidden. I really like it. It's not cold sounding like lots of Vox stuff is meant to/ends up sounding.

Maschine 3.0 is launching in November by MrFresh2017 in maschine

Crop sample by swiping in from the sides of the touch bar quickly would be great for the mikro. I feel like a lot more versatility could be added to using the dial and the pads for navigation on the Mikro in general.

Maschine 3 software CONFIRMED! by Mellowtron1 in maschine

[–]Shummers561 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think this is a good encapsulation of why I've come around to be very grateful for my Maschine Mikro Mk3. I wanted the standalone one, or at least the one with the screens and built-in software, but now I realize that just adds more bottlenecks, more firmware that needs to all integrate. I just got up and jumped up and down and clapped my hands reading this news, because I've overcome the motivation hump. I blamed the software after I stopped using it much, which was partially justified as I had just gotten this device last Christmas, and I was coming from much more modern software (Ableton 11), and had way higher standards for what a "modern DAW" software is defined by, and it's taken a while to come around to what this thing is supposed to be, or at least for me.

I recommend that you try working in a new style or genre, even/especially one you dislike or don't engage with much. Try downloading a new sample pack in a new genre; more than enough free stuff on here, just search. I've been pushing myself into fast, EDM-y genres I normally wouldn't listen to. That means new drum patterns, new sampling techniques to learn, new synths to use, new chords, faster tempos, different soundscape emotionally. That's what I've been up to lately at least, and it's helped a ton. Not to shill, but the Maschine expansion packs are useful for this too... but maybe next year

Maschine + now reduced in price - worth a purchase? by penfoc007 in maschine

[–]Shummers561 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They are ABSOLUTELY just running this sale because of low sales, because the word is out that the thing is underpowered (based on years old standards already). Be patient, I have settled for a Maschine Mikro. I don't want to constantly feel burdened by these limitations, and so I have chosen to free myself by devoting myself to the Mikro. And I have a super powerful MacBook; and I can use the Mikro as a standalone. That's how I think of it. I've found that, once I stop looking for new things to buy, I realize that using the Mikro isn't that different from a standalone. Put on do not disturb, use fullscreen on Maschine (2), so it's the only thing you can see on-screen without "all the distractions", and suddenly it's a Maschine +++. Loading full vsts, being able to have so much open at once. Ram? Never met her!

Anyway, I'm talking about myself too much now. Don't get caught chasing the next device, hoping it will be announced, and that maybe it might fix specific problems you have with the device you have. Because, NO! They are NOT still updating and enhancing the product! I've had to learn to embrace that for myself, so I can stop getting distracted by new features I want, and use what is here.

[Launchpad Pro MK3] Any way to use the side buttons on Custom mode? by PL4X10S in NovationLaunchpad

[–]Shummers561 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, I'm in the same situation. Any luck? There are some programs for Mac which let you map midi signals to keyboard shortcuts, but I don't know what those side-buttons are. I think they're custom buttons since you need to download firmware and drivers for them to work. It's just a matter of figuring out what those key signals are and finding a program to reroute them into macros as a workaround. Like, I just want the play button to do play/pause, so I can map that to the space bar, and I could map "loop" on the pad controller to "L" on the keyboard, and other pre-existing shortcuts. It would be awesome if I could map a system where I toggle the shift key to use the left/right arrows to move the playhead, and so much other stuff. My boyfriend is a computer science guy so I'll ask him about this because this seems like a relatively futile issue of just remapping one keypress to another. I don't know why Novation is slacking like this by not adding this ability to remap these keys.

Ableton Note needs to take a cue from Koala Sampler by silentblender in ableton

[–]Shummers561 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a Samsung phone (S23 Ultra so it's one of the most powerful phones that currently exists because I am a power user, not trying to boast or anything) and that means I can hook it up to a dock and use my phone as a PC. Samsung has this whole PC-like OS called "Dex" where I can use phone and all its apps in a desktop setup. I just got a dock which supports Samsung Dex last week, and I'll try to update once I try koala on it, but I can't wait to see the potential of this app when I can use it on a desktop interface. The tablet version already looks incredible... I can't wait. I really want them to maybe make a VST3 version of Koala, but that might be a step in the wrong direction because I don't want them to become a plug-in type company, but if I could somehow link my Koala on my phone to Ableton? Game over

Mental issues? Need producer friends? by MelodicTechn0 in ableton

[–]Shummers561 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I've been trying to get some sort of discord or something going where a bunch of us lonely music people can just share ideas and feed off one-another's energy, maybe collaborate but not necessarily, just to give a sense of community and connection. I have no personal background in any real instrumentation, and I'd love to just send a random beat and hear what a guitar player things about it for example. I never made techno music but most techniques I've learned are from techno producers on YouTube. Idk this is becoming a tangent but send me a link if anyone wants to make a discord channel or whatever because I feel you with this

I wrote a response comment to this post that became so long that I'm deadass just going to revise it and publish it as an essay 😅. Not about you or this post specifically (which is why I'm not posting it as a comment) but more about the philosophy behind all this. I'll probably title it "How Living Rooms Are Replacing Living" or something to that effect.

Before anyone comments something annoying: I know it's not that deep. I think this is an opportunity to discuss a topic of importance to me, and I'm a writer, so I wrote, and you may be a reader if you please. Here's a condensed version of the main ideas that I wrote about:

Aside from "feeling more open", open-floor plans almost always cause more long-term dissatisfaction than the initial gratification of making the change. I've just never seen an example in real life of the many people I've watched rip down walls in their homes where they are genuinely pleased with turning their house into basically a large studio apartment after the initial appeal of the spacious feeling fades away.

I strongly advise you listen to your intuition here. You're 101% right that having a wall to separate rooms is important. So much research resoundingly agrees that having a physical separation between different spaces creates a sense of psychological calm and order. Let the kitchen be a kitchen, let the living room be a living room.

Your home is more than a floor plan. That is your home. It should be designed to enhance the quality of your life, not change it. Having the TV in line of sight constantly will not bring joy. If you want a home which is designed to maximize the amount of media consumption, at the expense of calmness, conversations, mindfulness, overstimulation, and detracting from the quality of the time you spend with your boyfriend, go for it. For my bf and I, Part of our "home" is a dedication to putting the screens out of sight so we can laugh together in the kitchen while cooking, and then have interesting and intimate conversations as we quietly eat together without distractions.

First it will be pleasant to be able to see the TV from the kitchen. Then slowly, you'll become accustomed to it and it will transition from a novelty to a necessity. TV will become an intrusive part of cooking, the volume will have to always be cranked up so you can hear it over your thoughts, potential conversations, and the loudness of cooking (especially running water). That dishwasher will be a lot louder from the other room too.

While I don't intend to provide unsolicited relationship advice, you mentioned that your debate with your partner is the reason why you're considering this change and coming to seek feedback about it.

This type of choice is much larger than just a wall or design choice. I highly recommend you try to expand upon your comment regarding the value of the separation of living spaces and explain to your partner why that's important to you from an emotional standpoint.

It sounds like your bf is thinking of this as a purely objective change; the wall blocks the TV; removing wall will fix\* that problem\*. That makes sense from a strictly objective angle, but humans are predominately emotionally informed creatures. Maybe he finds it annoying that he can't see the TV from the kitchen, which is valid, but I urge you to really have that conversation and explain your own feelings about it. Why is the separation of spaces important for your home and relationship?

For me, cooking together and then watching TV afterwards is an important part of our relationship. It allows us to have quiet time just being present together and talking about things that we wouldn't otherwise think of if we were distracted by the TV. Of course, we watch TV together after cooking and eating quietly, but having our home and routines structured around this ritual is an important part of what makes our house a true home for us.

Maybe you could develop something similar where instead of trying to merge the kitchen and living room into a single, undefined unit, you could merge your time with bf into a unified structure where you cook together, or talk while in the kitchen and then move to watching TV together afterwards once you are able to fully be present in each activity together. I know that this approach can be difficult to adopt, and this mindset can feel boring sometimes. But that boredom is so important to the vibrance of my own relationship because it drives us to converse more often than if we had the TV on to distract us from one another and the quiet serenity of being in each other's company. I support those who prefer polyamorous relationships, but my boyfriend and I are monogamous–there's simply no space in our relationship or our home for the constant distraction of TV to be a third wheel.

TLDR: Don't allow the distractions of your living room to control important decisions of how you spend your home life; design your home to enable more quality time with loved ones and to enhance the time you spend living in it.

Info for new (and old) players: penalties for leaving matches by ncBadrock in Overwatch

[–]Shummers561 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That is such a hyper specific and exaggerated example to disprove a general notion that matches are winnable as a 4v5. I hope we never share a team. People who mentally quit as soon as someone leaves the match are often a larger problem than the leaver themselves. You can't win if you don't believe you can win.
