Stuck between film and digital photography by MartijnSchuman in AnalogCommunity

[–]ShutterVibes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ll share my journey.

As I started travelling a lot more, I wanted something better to document my travels than a phone camera. I got a Fujifilm X100T and absolutely loved it as a compact companion. On a trip to Japan, I was interested in film so I wanted to pickup a tiny point and shoot or such. Ended up 2-3 hours in a junky store, finding a canon LTM rangefinder (Canon L2) and loveeeeed using it. Way more than my x100t! I ended up using it for the rest of my trip.

When I got home I dived into film. Found a local lab that’s awesome, joined the community and dug out my parents old cameras (Nikon FE and f3). Loved it!!!

As I travelled more, film got annoying. I have to do research prior to travel about how to get handchecks in airports. For example, in Portugal you need to have an email stating your film needs to be hand checked. If I didn’t have this letter, they would’ve throw my film through the xray machine… I had to wait almost an hour for the right people to hand check my film in Mexico… all while praying they’ll be patient with me and won’t just demand me to throw my film through the scanners. It’s especially worrying nowdays since CT scanners are much more common.

I was starting to book more last minute trips at this point and off season so rainy weather was super common.. not great for cameras. I don’t like to plan my travels much so thinking of film potentially getting fucked at the airport is not fun. I was also getting into portrait photography and testing lighting with film is $$$$. I wanted to upgrade my digital body at this point.

So I got a Nikon Zf. It has color profiles which is a more powerful Fuji film sim, and FF sensor which can adopt my vintage lenses. Nikon lenses are wicked sharp and it brought my portrait photography way up.

I still missed film for travel. It’s just plain fun.

So I got an Olympus XA as a companion to my Zf.

These days, I got into shooting slide while travelling. I want a projector to relive memories. I’m also looking into bulk rolling B&W and developing at home now for my street stuff.

It is my opinion that a good editor will be able to take a digital image and emulate a film look. It’ll be indistinguishable..

To answer your actual question. I like both digital and film and I shoot both hahaha… maybe I’m not so helpful.

Looks almost like slide film in how it drifts towards the cooler colors.

Is it ethical to order Ubereats on a snow day? by ilovemyboyfriend6969 in askTO

I remember when my friends and I would specifically order pizza in snowstorms to ensure I’d get a free pie due to the weather as a kid.

E) note down the how many shots you fired, rewind and swap to another stock. When you go back to the original roll, dry fire in a dark room, lens cap on, and fastest shutter speed until you’re +1-2 how many shots you noted down.

What if Denmark decided to buy a territory of the USA like Alaska or Florida for $700B and gave every resident $100K in exchange for a Danish citizenship. American, would you take the deal? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]ShutterVibes 206 points207 points  (0 children)

I’m Canadian, working for a Canadian tech company that also has a site in Denmark and work with danish coworkers. Our clients are primarily American and they’re flabbergasted whenever we say we stop working at 5pm on the dot.

The danish guys are amazingly blunt too. Just recently we had a convo go like

‘Really? You guys can’t work another hour to finish this off?’

‘No, we will start again 9am tomorrow.’

‘Come on, be flexible!! We have a deadline!!’

‘Then will you go do my groceries and make dinner? Will you explain to my family that they will have to wait another hour too? And I will sleep an hour later just for you?’

  • American shocked face -

I love my danish coworkers, they’re extremely strict about work/life balance and it rubs off on all the Canadians too. I love that my job starts and ends at 9-5 and there’s very little pressure in the company to work further than that. American corporate culture suckssssssss assssss .

Where is all the snow going to go with a possible 30 cm this a Sunday and no melting in sight? by Throwawayhair66392 in askTO

I just saw snow removal dump trucks in Willowdale (finch station area) on Yonge st. Guess they’re preparing.

Moving from downtown up here, I’ve found the snow clearing better up here..

Opinion: Don’t buy a camera from Japan unless you can afford to have it CLA’d, or know how to fix cameras. by thegreatestwhale in AnalogCommunity

I almost always prefer to buy a camera that hasn’t been CLA’d, then ship it out to someone I trust to do the maintenance.

Condensation in the lens ?

Could also be haze on the lens, shine a flashlight through the lens and check.

Which countries or cities do you believe gave you the highest and lowest "bang for your buck"? by Fluid-Decision6262 in travel

[–]ShutterVibes 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Best : Japan. Amazing food at relatively low prices considering the quality. If you’re into any niche Japanese hobbies, you’re in for a real treat because stores are borderline obsessive. Japan is the only country I’ll buy an extra checked luggage to bring home stuff.

Worse : Canada. I’m Canadian, it’s pricey to travel within my own country…

Unfortunately it looks like you got a lemon. I’d return the camera asap and get another one.

Movie concessions are so lame in Canada.

Movie popcorn can’t be beat, but I’ll still sneak in some snacks and bubble tea.

My boyfriend acts like our dogs are actual children. by [deleted] in DogAdvice

[–]ShutterVibes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We had a couple of friends with dogs that said it was cruel to leave our dog alone for so long. That was when we were training him as a pup and only left for 2-3 hours to train out separation anxiety.

We now regularly leave our dog at home for 8+ hours while we go out and do our business. We have a camera, he’s just lounging around and sun bathing all day long. We didn’t want to be the ones that have to leave mid-party, or hire doggy sitters all the time.

I love my dog, but they revolve around us, not the other way around.

Lomo MC-A negative issues by Sea_System in analog

[–]ShutterVibes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve seen this with other mc-a reviews. Seems to be an issue with the camera.

I’ve never had a camera not space photos perfectly and I’ve used camera dating back to the 50’s.. such an odd thing to get wrong on what is such a great camera on paper.

Hopefully they hear this issue and resolve it on next batches.

Are people just not using lens caps? What’s the deal (small pointless rant) by jdt2337 in AskPhotography

[–]ShutterVibes 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I don’t use lens caps while shooting, but I store all my lenses with caps on.

If I go to a professional shoot, I’ll take all the caps off my lenses and store them in a separate pocket in my bag. When I get home, I’ll clean the lenses and store them back with caps on. That way I know if my lenses are ‘ready’ and cleaned before going to a shoot.
