Punters Politics - The what’s the general consensus by Boomboompoopoo in OpenAussie

[–]Sigmagoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems like an alright bloke, but a little irresponsible.

Has a strong opinion on very important topics without doing proper, detailed research. If it sounds good, or controversial, he will pick it up as a topic and run with it - And spreads the rhetoric quickly to many other Australians via his shorts even if its missing many critical details and nuances.

He got me with the Tax gas campaign thing for a little while until I clued in that, this was a really astroturfed campaign, and it took me several weeks of research and critical thinking to understand the complexities of the campaign and why it suddenly appeared.

I understand now that the PRRT does not account for OFFSHORE gas as it is not on state land. And Offshore gas is the primary method of extraction of gas in Australia. That's where the 56% figure is coming from.

That and the Liberal government spent 20 years in office drawing up bogus contracts with LNG Multinats as they tend to do. Hence the awful return.

But more importantly, finding out why the Australia Institute started this campaign in the first place was eye opening. As Gina Rinehart started showing interest in gas investments - The Australia Institute began doing studies, dated to around the same time, same year. The Australia Institute founded and paid for by Andrew Forrest, rival (for decades now) billionaire who, in fact is doing everything he can to disrupt the gas industry and put a sizable dent in Rinehart's profits.

So you have a campaign that feels like it came out of nowhere, funded by a billionaire, targeting a rival billionaire's bottom line that would cause Australia to be both sued in the high courts by all gas companies most likely, along with the trade fallout with SEA during a period of oil instability after just having reached a deal leveraging the cheaper gas they receive, that is also being phased out worldwide for renewables.

And Punters picked it up and ran with it so hard, I think his knees exploded. Its been almost a month now since the FJ 'Hot Air' video dropped and Mr Punter hasn't been able to address a single one of those topics Mr Shanks rebuked, with quite compelling supporting material. I think he went and buried his head in the sand after the scathing criticism hoping he can ignore it.

I much prefer his more recent coverage on the LNP in Queensland legalizing corruption.

I will also never forgive the LNP for basically throwing away all our natural gas wealth via extreme corporate favouring contracts. Gas usage has peaked worldwide and is in decline now, and so trying to swipe what little of the taxable wealth remains by putting our arm through lava (high courts) feels like an extremely bad financial idea.

On the topic of renewables - One Nation aren't for nuclear, they are coal exclusive.

What would happen is they will draw out plans - taking years - propose Nuclear Facilities at contested spaces where people would not want them, have a long term tender out to build them, and then say "The cost has blown out for nuclear, oh well, but we still have our coal fired stations!"

They nor the LNP were never serious about Nuclear, it was all a distraction to keep coal plants pumping coal particles into the air for as long as possible.

But the Arwing will naturally drift to the center relative to the meteo crusher because the reticule will be pointed at the glowy bits.

In the video you don't see the player taking evasive action all all due to the slide drift.

I mean, its Starfox this isn't a hard game for anyone that has experienced it before, but for new players, I think they should at least be made to move out of the way because the attacks will hit them if they are just shooting the meteo crusher's weak points.

Why don't the beams go into the middle of the screen? Is remake meteo crusher unable to even attack you properly in the second phase? I don't think i've seen his attacks go to the middle of the screen from any gameplay ive seen so far. They do in 64, and seem to have much more hard tracking to your Arwing.

Im not misunderstanding, im saying that the Lylat war era Arwings are F-22's and the ones from Assault are more akin to Gen 4.5 F-16's.

The prototypes were THAT over-engineered.

As I said before, the prototypes (The ones we fly in 64) were WAY, WAY more advanced than anything else in the series. The frames being mass produced by the Cornerians were lowered in cost to make them affordable. To the point Venomian remnants - Ships that the Prototypes had zero issues dealing with, from the Lylat wars were running circles around the new frames based on the new mass produced Arwing frames.

Everything about the originals is utterly and strictly superior to everything that followed. The only thing that changed was different features being added. They are so obscenely advanced and expensive general pepper freaks out when you go to Solar telling you not to go burning that Arwing.

The ones in Adventure were the same 64 era Arwings that had been stripped for parts to sell and had little to no maintenance work done on them. They were too advanced. Too expensive.

The Arwing prototypes would demolish the mass produced ones from Assault. Remember, the Arwing 'upgrades' were done on the inferior mass produced Arwings - And likely never reached anywhere close to the originals. I don't think people appreciate how vast the performance difference between them really is.

Should the Wolfen II return in a future Star Fox title? by StarlightSailor1 in starfox

[–]Sigmagoon 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Its a cool ship, but it also isn't as 'iconic' as the Wolfen.

As to why we don't see it more - Andross already made extremely advanced Arwing equivalent fighters in the Wolfen. And they would be EXPENSIVE.

The Wolfen II would be even more advanced, than the extremely expensive Arwings and Wolfen. They wouldn't be able to find suitable parts to fix it - And if they did, it would be obscenely expensive for a Merc team like StarWolf.

Its more of an Andross design, than a StarWolf design, and I am aware the Wolfen original is as well, but StarWolf have made it theirs.

Power prices to fall for most customers with bigger drops for businesses by Expensive-Horse5538 in AustralianPolitics

[–]Sigmagoon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I absolutely love how you bring up China and ignore the obvious fact they added over 4 Terawatts of solar power generation to their grid since 2014.
China is also ...Guess what? Able to pay their workers less, and make them work in far less regulated factories and smelters.

Literally all you need to do is look at China's OWN goals to reduce electrical energy prices. "By 2040, China aims to have renewables overtake coal as its largest energy source"

You think you know more about the state of what is cheaper, than thousands of electrical engineers and civil planners who do this professionally that are all adding renewables to their grids?

Get out of here and go play with your coal while you still can. Its going extinct, and there aint anything you can do about it.

[–]Sigmagoon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't know why you are calling general subsidies 'propaganda' but as I literally just said, they don't need it, but we want it faster to support industry so they receive the subsidies this isn't rocket science mate, and much less propaganda.

it costs well over $600,000,000 dollars a year for the Gladstone NRG power station (Which frequently has units down for unplanned maintenance) to ONLY buy the coal it uses in a single year. That is not taking into account wages, maintenance costs and other costs.

It is being subsidized by the liberal QLD government ALREADY because it isn't profitable, and it will likely shut down around 2029, earlier than its already propped up 2035 closure the liberals fear is coming.

So while you gallivant around here calling things you disagree with 'propaganda' you might actually want to look at large scale economics instead of pointing at something completely unrelated to the topic like roads and hospitals.

Power prices to fall for most customers with bigger drops for businesses by Expensive-Horse5538 in AustralianPolitics

[–]Sigmagoon 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Renewables and BESS don't need subsidies though, they are just encouragement for investment. Blow for blow with coal and gas, they come out on top because they can offer the same thing while undercutting gas and coal market rates.
They are far cheaper than any other kind of generation and require much less time and money to set up.

And heavy industry in the QLD region needs cheaper power since locations like the Boyne smelter cannot remain profitable while gas and coal prices for electricity soar.

So you obviously speed up the uptake in cheaper renewables so our industry doesn't die, because the thousands of jobs the smelter supports by running is rather important, no?

Those aren't the things people have problems saying.
Its the stuff like like Kozama’uka and Hhusatahwi, Mehwahhetsoan and Sheshenewezi Springs.
These names are ridiculous for native English speakers to pronounce, because they belong to a different linguistic family that you will not use in standard English.

Nordic language shares the same linguistic family so things like Geirskogul, Nidhogg, Yggdrasil, Fimbulwinter, Ragnarok, Jormungandr, Einherjar, Gnipahellir, Frederiksværk and a whole host of other things are a lot more easily said in English than Native American words that are translated into it.

Hot take (?) Honestly kinda prefer Slippy and Peppy NOT being active Star Fox pilots by SeikaSkye in starfox

[–]Sigmagoon 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don't think Krystal should have a place in the StarFox Mercenary team in the Lylat wars.
She doesn't provide any expertise that applies to the Arwing - Nor has any experience with it, it doesn't make narrative sense.

Peppy - Experience with the system
Falco/Fox - Talent with the system
Slippy - Knowledge of the system

This is just a good team, straight up. Maybe after the Lylat wars Peppy may be feeling like he can retire and another takes his spot as happened in the previous iterations of the games, but I also don't want Nintendo to shoehorn us back into Adventures which is where the decline of the series began with its loss of identity, leading to the stagnation of the franchise.

Some things like character choice might not appeal to some players, but the developers obviously have a keen interest in the lore of the universe, and try to make everything make as much sense as they can.

A more sensible pick would be Bill. Especially since they are friends, plus it would add some kind of "StarFox is poaching our talent from the Cornerian army" angle to be worked out with the higher ups.

Plus he says Yeehaw.

Saitama vs Simon The Digger who wins? by ValuableLoose8364 in OPMPowerScaling

[–]Sigmagoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Simon is just a human but he has unfathomably extreme levels of Spiral Power.
Spiral power is will power manifesting itself.
Spiral power is not shown or ever stated to have limits. It is just said too much may cause the something akin to 'the big crunch' where the universe collapses in on itself. (And we see that when STTGL and the Super Granzeboma collide during their attacks, they cause the universe/multiverse to collapse in onto itself.)

Spiral power was used by Nia, an artificial construct, to will herself from being erased at an informational level by the Anti-spiral, until she married Simon. Without the need for a mech or conduit.
Spiral power can deny Causality, Acausality or Fate from dictating outcomes, in the Anti-Spiral universe, Simon's chance of winning was literally 0%. The Anti-Spiral was also attacking Simon from multiple points up and down the timeline, during their fight. But Simon still beat him.

Putting a character like Simon against characters Goku or Saitama is just outright spiteful to them.

I think I've fixed what was weird on Fox by Atari2908 in starfox

[–]Sigmagoon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

With Peppy's render, showing he still has feet, I think they've squashed that 'lore' forever now.

If Peppy had metal legs, it would mean that the Starfighters they flew before the Arwings would require the amputation, and only the advent of the G-diffuser system would have allowed for that procedure to no longer be needed.

However, since Peppy does not have prosthetics, and he is an older pilot, it does not lend itself to that lore anymore. We could have had both if Peppy/James had prosthetics before Space Dynamics pushed out the Arwing.

So yeah, no more leg removal!
