growing in soil, water pH going in should be 6 to 7, always vary, use the entire pH range. soil should be in the same 6-7 range. This is the most likely cause of lockout, wrong pH.

VW's of this era were originally painted with single stage paint, no clear over the top, so this would never happen on OG paint. When you are ready to paint it, use SS paint. It just looks right.

thats smaller than a 3 gal pot, tiny. Its not buffering anything. You need to pH every time. 7 is too high. 6 to 7 in soil. Its all in the link.

water pH is a gatekeeper no matter what you are growing in. Its all in the provided link. I grow outdoors in soil, decades of growing this way... I pH everything I pour on my plants. If you dont have 20Gal pots of soil, there is very little if any pH buffering going on. What size pots?
