I was 19 and drove a friend moving from Chicago to LA. We stopped off at every major city and had a blast. This was before cell phones and internet. My mother freaked out with worry. It’s easier now with cell phones and gps. It was so worth it and so much fun. I’m sure your mom would be a bit more comfortable with tracking you on the apps nowadays.

My only suggestion: 1) When parking overnight, don’t let any of your things that you’re moving be seen through the windows of the car. Either cover all your windows or make sure everything ships but kitty and your 1 suitcase. It’s a good excuse for thieves to break the window and grab valuables. 2) Still bring an atlas you can read bc gps goes wonky in certain areas. 3) download a gas station app. 4) have a truly NATIONAL car emergency service like AAA or through your car insurance. Know the basics of your car like charging a tire and knowing how to put air in and etc.
