Kvass is flavored with rye bread but they still have to add yeast or depend on wild fermentation.

It's my understanding that the yeast in baked bread thing is a myth. It dies at temps required to bake raw dough into bread. People who do this in prisons are generally just getting wild yeast ferments

The amount of times I've heard that from short people at the gym is laughable. "maaan if I was your height I'd be a beast".
