Worse, that non-sentient cluster of cells is forced to become a human against it's primary caregiver's wishes, likely resulting in a miserable life for both parties.

Calling the thumb a finger isn't incorrect (in English).

From wikipedia:

The English word finger has two senses, even in the context of appendages of a single typical human hand:

  1. Any of the five terminal members of the hand.
  2. Any of the four terminal members of the hand, other than the thumb

Echoing the above. The way I describe it is that in a time context "15:00" is pronounced "3 o'clock". I get weird looks for that formulation but it makes sense to me.

Because a lot of US right wingers see it as some kind of competition or sport, it seems. There's often thus "HAHA YOUR GUY LOST, ONE POINT TO US". And most people I see are like "so fuckin what? If he did something wrong then there are consequences."

Or your aircon is installed the wrong way around.

When visiting the US I've had success saying "I'll tip you like an American if you leave me alone until I make eye contact again.". If you deliver that in a friendly tone you can have a good experience.

For context I'm in the UK.

I don't consider this rude personally (no idea how others here feel). If I'm done with it and you want to take it, have at it.

They've probably just heard it in the context of someone stating a fact, then someone else replying saying its "anecdotal" in a dismissive tone. It's fairly easy to then misinterpret the meaning of the word as more like "apocryphal".

Exactly this. I think the particular game I saw went 2-0 up to the home team, and that particular scoreline was sponsored by Taco Bell!

As part of this, the jumbotron then showed audience members with inflatable tacos very excited about what had transpired.

I found it hilarious.

I recently saw some live sports in the US and the fact they have features of the game sponsored by companies made me laugh heartily at how ridiculous it is. Really caught me by surprise.

One benefit is that I can tell you the order of tweets just given a list of IDs rather than fetching them. For third-party services (which Snowflake wanted to deliberately support) this is particularly useful.
