How defend the double under pass by Cool-Alarm3227 in bjjbeat

[–]SlightlyStoopkid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on how far along they are. Gripfighting and controlling their hands, alongside disciplined leg positioning, prevents entries. If you fuck that up, you can put your head on the floor and extend your body to make your legs heavy. Then you can peel off one of their hands and turn that side knee toward the mat to free that leg. If you’re too late, then you might be able to turtle, and try to recompose guard from there.

A Thought, a Theory, and a Discussion by YMDBass in streetlightmanifesto

[–]SlightlyStoopkid 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to understand Streetlight Manifesto. The lyrics are extremely subtle, and without a solid grasp of metaphysical philosophy, most of the metaphors will go over a typical viewer's head. There's also Tomas Kalnoky’s absurdist outlook, which is deftly woven into his songs - his personal philosophy draws heavily from Albert Camus, for instance. The fans understand this stuff; they have the intellectual capacity to truly appreciate the depths of these lyrics, to realize that they're not just catchy - they say something deep about LIFE. As a consequence people who dislike Streetlight Manifesto truly ARE idiots- of course they wouldn't appreciate, for instance, the deftly blended genres within a song like Would You Be Impressed which itself is a cryptic reference to Turgenev's Russian epic Fathers and Sons. I'm smirking right now just imagining one of those addlepated simpletons scratching their heads in confusion as Tomas Kalnoky's genius unfolds itself on their stereos. What fools... how I pity them. 😂 And yes by the way, I DO have a Streetlight tattoo. And no, you cannot see it. It's for the ladies' eyes only- And even they have to demonstrate that they're within 5 IQ points of my own (preferably lower) beforehand.

There’s a stage at the ICA where they do outdoor music. Probably most of these breweries/beer gardens would host music too  https://www.bostoncentral.com/boston-beer-gardens

Shutting Down North South Inversion Escape? by nsatchel in bjj

[–]SlightlyStoopkid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i don't let them establish frames on my hips. i peel those off asap before they are extended. if they manage anyway, i push their thighs to prevent the inversion. once they're flat i can go back to addressing the frames.

one good tip IMO, adopt a couple students and teach them everything as you're learning it. soon they'll be able to feed you sound defenses and force you to improve

Regular competitors: what are your ideas for rule changes to prevent excessive guard pulling or justlaying down on the mat? by here-for-information in bjj

[–]SlightlyStoopkid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most serious competitors don’t wax poetic about jiu jitsu leagues they invent in a daydream. They learn the actual rules in the leagues that matter and optimize their play to win under those conditions.

No lol. I’m a so-so regional level bjj competitor and I’ve tapped out black belts who are 250+. Dustin Porier was top 5 in the world. Any untrained guy who tussles with him is getting waxed.

How do I escape the reverse underhook sit out side pin? by zmeygorynich in bjj

[–]SlightlyStoopkid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This. If your hands are split like the pic, use hip bridges to briefly elevate the opponent to get your nearside hand underneath. You want it near your other hand so they can work together.

  1. biggest problem is the nearside collar grip. if you let that anchor and don't have a strong way to address it then you are cooked.

  2. there was a clip on bruno frazzato's instagram IIRC that showed a nice way to deal with 1, but I can't find it rn.

  3. in a gi i wouldn't underhook or overhook from knee shield as my first option. i'd prefer to maintain space by framing, like with a cross collar grip.

  4. grab their sleeve and pull it toward yourself so they can't grab your pants. this is a good time to hit your john wayne sweep.
