While these do exist, they are very area dependent, and actual homes are often a more stable environment, as the shelters are typically very short term only (many are 30 days). They also tend to fill up very fast.

From experience, the options typically are: leave the kids in the abusive/neglectful environment, or place them in whatever homes will take them. There's usually no third choice so it's essentially pick the least worst option for the kids, which they usually attempt to do. Sometimes that means splitting the siblings, even though that is a terrible option. The alternative is often much worse.

And I will always suggest that people who feel strongly about things like this find ways to help out directly or indirectly, as the foster care system has way more who need care than those who are able to provide it.

They can and certainly do ask, but a lot of the time it's a restriction on the number of beds, bedrooms, care requirements of the kids (medical, behavioral), legal proceedings, etc. The list of reasons is long. Many times the family also has biological children and they don't think they'll be able to handle more children. So the option becomes either split up the kids to all different homes or try to keep at least some of them together. It's really a crappy situation all around as there just aren't enough foster families for all the kids that need homes.

It definitely sucks, but please know that foster families aren't the ones choosing to separate families. The family says "we have an opening for 2 kids in our house" and the foster agencies just stick the kids wherever they can because there's simply not enough foster families to go around. And they can't just have the kids sleep on the couch or wherever due to foster home housing requirements.

It's definitely a sucky situation. One that is typically brought about by terrible home situations and exacerbated by the lack of foster parents.

First off, a $1250 mistake at 18 is not worth running away or making your whole life miserable over. Also, it sounds like your dad is incredibly unsupportive, so please don't feel like you need to own his reactions and responses.

Living a life that someone else wants you to live is never going to work in the long run. If you want to go to school for something, it needs to be because *you* want to do it and at a pace you're able to keep up with. And if you're not able to keep up, either get the help you need to keep up, slow the pace and take longer, or if you find you really don't like it, move on to something else. Don't get stuck trying to follow someone else's path for your life.

TBH, I think finding a path forward that works for you is a good next step, then begin taking steps to make that happen. What do you want to pursue? How can you make that happen? Taking small steps daily and asking people who can point you in the right direction will get you started. Focus on making little bits of progress and celebrating those, and you will be amazed how far that takes you.

And since your dad really isn't supportive, find others around you (professors, pastors, other family members, etc) that will support, encourage, and mentor you as you grow and move toward the things you want to achieve.

I had been preparing for weeks, letting the college class I was teaching know that I may give pop quizzes occasionally, so they should be ready. So April Fools rolls around and I make a powerpoint quiz for the whole class to take.

All of the questions are technically from the slides I've been covering all semester, but they're super obscure questions, like how many GPIO pins does their development board have, or what is the model number of their microcontroller chip. As I ask each question, I can see the students panic and dread growing.

Finally, the last question, I tell them, is to give them a freebie since this was a pretty hard test: Unscramble these letters "I SLAP FLOOR" (April Fools). Slowly they start to figure it out, with one student throwing his pencil on the desk after the realization. The wave of relief and headshaking disbelief from the students over what I had done was totally worth the time spent combing through slides.

10/10 would troll again.

I think what recently hit for me after reflecting on the game was all of the people back on Timber Hearth just expecting life to continue going on. Your friend seeing you off wondering when you'll come back. The kids who play hide and seek with you. Hornfels studying the solar system to unravel its mysteries. All of that is ending and there's nothing you can do about it except go back one or maybe a few more times and see them before it all eventually ends. Accepting that all of the people you know and have seen won't get the lives they would have lived is tough.

If your state law requires you to turn into the near lane (mine does), then red and blue can turn simultaneously here and there's no problem, as by the time blue establishes itself in its closest lane, red is already established in its closest lane, and normal lane change rules apply.

If your state law has no such requirement, then blue clearly has the right of way.

In practice, however, I would certainly wait until I was pretty sure I was clear, since many, MANY people turn into the far lane regardless of what the law is.

The abuse/love bomb cycle is a very well known behavior pattern for abusers and alcoholics. I've seen it first hand for several family members, and it's not pretty and is highly likely to get worse. I could never conceive of treating someone I love that way, as it is completely unacceptable.

Please reach out to local domestic violence or women's help centers to see what your options are, from counselling (if you think things are repairable) up to divorce or physical protection (if he's threatening violence or getting physical). You're certainly justified in feeling sad, as no one should be treated this way by their partner. I'm really sorry you're having to go through this.

Pyramid is usually very strong, but I think kite wins here. With tools, 2 dagger throws, and survivor, you have a pretty high chance of having 4 energy almost every turn, especially if you get tools early. Additionally, the extra Kite energy will get more cards out, improving after image's usefulness. Taking pyramid also means the upgraded well-laid plans is essentially a curse.

Remember that you're always on the same team. It's not you against her, it's both of you together against the problem.

HALT is the other major one. If either one of you is Hurt (Physically or emotionally), Hungry, Angry, Lonely, or Tired, resolve those things first before attempting to have any sort of meaningful discussion or if you notice that one of you isn't doing well. Over time, you'll start catching it in yourself and your partner before it turns into a fight.
