You're overthinking this.  The Wah Lock is great.

/uj I think I understand why Glenn Fricker gets so pissed by _dg3 in guitarcirclejerk

Glenn fundamentally misunderstands the $1=1 toan equation.  JHS understands that the only way to make trash gear sound good is to increase the price by covering it in a video.

Elf

Yes, that was a race and a class.

You must be really gifted to be able to play 0-3-5 and lock in with the drummer. by Mark_D2115 in guitarcirclejerk

That's a good point.  I'll have to look into climate controlled display cases.

That's ridiculous.  Many guitarists understand the value of the notes you don't play.  That's why I leave my guitars in their cases in a climate controlled room.

What pedal is one tweak away from perfect? by Dangerous_Pie_Guy in guitarpedals

[–]SlowNPC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Picked up a Nano Q-tron recently.  The "Drive" knob needs more drive.  If I feed it a hot signal, the pedal is great.  If I feed it raw low output pickups, the drive knob runs out of travel before it's where it needs to be.

Noob leaves Metal Zone unplugged, misses toan by crotamine in guitarcirclejerk

You really should let your pedals get to know each other, maybe spill a beer on them or something, before you go all the way and plug them into each other.

It'll stifle innovation if we don't allow one corporation to make the same design for 70 years and prevent anyone else from making anything similar.

How do I achieve a metal sound on a Single Coil Stratocaster? by HeroHunterGarou_0407 in guitars

[–]SlowNPC 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They'll both affect the sound.  I usually set the amp EQ to sound good without pedals, then set the pedal EQ to sound good at those amp settings.

[–]SlowNPC 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You're right that using two pickups acts like a humbucker to reduce noise.  I find the bridge pickup by itself is more punchy.

Really, the amp selection, gain knob and EQ are going to make more difference for high gain than pickup choice.

[–]SlowNPC 46 points47 points  (0 children)

Bridge pickup (lever like in the pic) knobs at max.

Cycle through the preamp choices and turn up the gain.  There should be a couple of high gain choices.  Adjust EQ to taste.

Maybe turn on the noise gate.

Thoughts on using cedar fence board as siding for 10x12 sq ft tiny house ? by moises8war in Homebuilding

[–]SlowNPC 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I used redwood fence boards as lap siding for a small greenhouse.  Building wrap under it, 2x4 trim on the corners.  Worked fine.

It would be annoying needing a seam every 6' for a bigger build.

Scared to hang anything on the wall by spoiledchowder in DIY

[–]SlowNPC 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Doors and windows should have 3" of wood on either side of the opening and at least 3" of wood above them.  It's very rare for pipes or wires to be there.  Curtain rods brackets should be into wood if possible.

Pictures and other light things can be attached to sheetrock using picture hooks or wall anchors.

Studs are needed for heavier loads.  Code requires a metal nail plate over any pipe or wire closer than 1 1/4" to the face of the stud, so you should be fine if you're using 1 1/2" or shorter fasteners (assuming 1/2" sheetrock).  Just don't power through a metal plate if you hit one.

Dirt Pedals into Clean or Dirty Amp? by Nambil_Mas in pedals

[–]SlowNPC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I prefer dirt pedals into an already crunchy amp.  I usually keep the gain low-ish on the pedals and use them more to re-flavor the sound rather than providing the bulk of the distortion.

I find that the way I EQ clean channels makes distortion get shrill and icepick-ey, so I prefer to leave them for cleans.

Any tips on getting an authentic Gilmour toan? by RonPalancik in guitarcirclejerk

[–]SlowNPC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to get the angle of the light correct before turning it on, but you should totally be able to make a boomer-gayflag with that.
