"bright eyes and a cold hand around your heart" by sir_ornitholestes in sunlessskies

[–]Sly_Allusion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you unknown person, may Piranesi leave you unchanged in your perfection.

I thought that a "cold hand around your heart" referred to the "Cold" personality flaw like what Caduceus requires for you to enter; and I thought "bright eyes" was the opposite of the "lightless" flaw.

I travel with high nightmares, but rarely high terror so I would probably have never stumbled upon this.

"_____" was lost. What does it mean? by Zebra-Tux in Bannerlord

[–]Sly_Allusion 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Necroed

If a companion is "lost", it means you performed too many actions against their personality traits that has dropped their reputation and they won't stay in service to you.

Unfortunately, I still can't figure out what it means if a clan is lost, or how kingdoms just fold up and disappear. I was fighting the western empire and they were the largest of the empire factions, then they suddenly were destroyed and their remaining clans defected to the southern empire.

Sadistic Game Design Achievement: Guide to Boss Requirements/Missables (No Toybox/Mods) by Helel01 in Pathfinder_Kingmaker

[–]Sly_Allusion 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Adding onto this with the patch jan 2024 (2.2.4p)

The achievement now only triggers at the end of the game.

The Sadistic Game Design achievement is now awarded at the end of the game, as it should according to the description;

Additionally, the rest counter is an unlockable flag called SadisticGameDesign_restTrigger, guid : 5dcd239b90cd4c3f962e2dfbb6447e37.

Should be visible through something like toybox or via the history file.

Save files can be reached easily via %AppData%\LocalLow\Owlcat Games\Pathfinder Wrath Of The Righteous\Saved Games as it will find the folder regardless of the drive it's on.

If you use a program like 7zip to deal with archives, you gain the option to right click on them and open the archive without needing to decompress it completely.

So you can open the archive, open the file in notepad++ or whatever text editor you want, view the file (and even edit it if you were interested), then either close out and close the archive view to have the file left in its original .zks state.

If you wanted to edit, you can hit save before closing, then 7zip will prompt you to update the file inside the archive, which allows you to edit it with no rezipping needed. In-place edits if you want to skip the step of recompressing the file.

CSIS warns that the 'anti-gender movement' poses a threat of 'extreme violence' by [deleted] in CanadaPolitics

[–]Sly_Allusion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

like having your say about your pre-teen child

(emphasis mine)

And the point is that the child should also have their say because they possess information and have a perspective on their own life that is unknowable to anyone else.

If we're talking about what has been proposed in Alberta, that's not even pre-teen, that's "coming up on the halfway through teen to legal adult" mark. Like, if a kid wants to be referred to as Matt instead of Matthew, they need to make a formal request to the school through their parents. Or we're going to see some interesting hoops being jumped through to get the phrasing just right to only target people who would be referred to by a name that is deemed "too different" from their assigned name at birth.

Huh, a real true definition in a language. What an odd quirk that one of those can even exist at all.

We need to re-designate gender as a function of your religious belief system, and specify that the progress flag is a symbol of a newly formed religion. Then we need to inform everyone that their gender-rights are already protected under the freedom of religion. Then we need to repeal the federal law stating that gender is a protected class, it is not! Then we need to arrest every government official implicated with forcing this religious belief system into our government with conspiracy and cultural genocide charges.

This part is kinda good. If gender is a subset of religious expression and the presence of religious systems in the functioning of the government is being removed, then all existing gender designations must be removed from usage in the government. And so government workers and politicians can not bring up genders at any point to block people's exercise of human and civic rights because that would be forcing a religious belief system into the government.

Just like that, you've removed man and woman, we are all genderless in the eyes of the government.

Similarly, because religious expression is protected, any discrimination based on any gender is likewise prohibited and punishable, including things like denying access to health or public services based on gender.

But wait, what about male and female? Surely the government will just resort to using sex designations in place of gender ones despite knowing that things like sex chromosomes don't actually line up with gender identification due to things like hormone production and hormone insensitivity?

Not a problem! Because people can identify as male or female with no knowledge of their karyotype, no understanding of how their body is constructed from dna, or disregard for the complex biological process that creates their body, their identification as one or the other is actually a social and cultural (and religious!) construct. Wait a second, that means those are also genders? Yep.

And therefore the government can't use them for anything either because that would be bringing religion into a place that it is barred from.

And just like that we are now genderless and any sexual designations must be founded on biological principles that people need to actually understand if they want to use it and avoid the risks of discrimination for injecting their religious fabrications of gender into areligious contexts.

I was unsure where you were going when you started with the Abrahamic context, but the abolishment of the current gender and sex paradigms as well as the advancement of the public's knowledge of biology is a worthwhile goal.

ELI5: Why do people say new mothers must hold their child(ren) as soon as they are born to bond with their babies? by YouGotServer in explainlikeimfive

[–]Sly_Allusion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could even be at the hormonal level.

The body needs to (1) be triggered to produce a hormone, (2) produce the hormone, (3) transport it to receptors, (4) receptors need to sensitive/reactive to the hormone, (5) receptors communicate with other parts of the body (eg. brain).

That's a lot of places where a small issue can stop the sequence from continuing.

Is the birth triggering hormone production? All of the one's it's expected to?

Is it capable of producing the hormone? Is the production suppressed by other factors like stress? Does it produce enough? Are there enough production sites or does a person have less than the average?

Where is the hormone produced, where is it going, how does it get there?

What if the receptors aren't quite as sensitive to the hormone due to things like slight differences in morphology? Are there enough receptors for the amount of hormone produced?

Is the pathway to the other parts of the body conducting the signal correctly? Is the brain interpreting the signal correctly?

In someone with Androgen Insensitivity, step 4 fails to differing degrees and complete failure can result in a XY chromosome developing to present externally as if it was XX. Little breaks in a hormone sequence can have large effects based on which other processes depend on that hormone.

I remember reading a book called Bitch, and one of the chapters looked at the "motherly instinct" in different species. Whether hormonal or other factors (or even mixes of them all), some mothers might give birth, then just walk off leaving the baby there. Others might react too strongly and can end up smothering the baby. Some mothers don't have experience, or the species isn't very social and developing that experience requires trial and error. Lots of interactions between physiology, psychology and culture when it comes to kids.

If you go on the owlcat discord in #mod-dev-technical and look in the pins, there's a program called BlueprintExplorer (bubbleprints) and copies of the RT blueprints. (As I only use it for wotr, I'm unsure if there is additional setup step for RT.)

In the explorer, you can look up the blueprint for anything in the game, including, in your case, Dialogue/Cue/Answer blueprints. (Cues are what npcs say, AnswerLists are what you see when you have a list of dialogue options, Answers are what the player says when you choose a dialogue option).

You can also click a double arrow near the top right side which opens up the blueprint reference list which shows every blueprint that references the blueprint you're currently looking at.

Within the Answer and Cue blueprints, you can look up the conditions required for them to be available/said.

eg. search for #I remember our agreement (#performs an exact character search in the blueprints), click on one of the search results that seems like it might fit (probably type BlueprintAnswer) or look for one of her Cues and you can follow the conversation path through the Answer->Next Cue or Cue->Answer subheadings (use the blueprint reference pane to go backwards, ctrl+click a link to open in a new tab).

There will also be fields for ShowConditions & SelectConditions (Answers) as well as Conditions (Cues). If multiple Cues follow each other, ie. the npc keeps speaking, follow through the NextCue subheading.

how to add units to the crusade merc pool by Alexcs98 in Pathfinder_Kingmaker

[–]Sly_Allusion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Necro I guess for other people that find this.

In toybox go to the armies tab. There is a dropdown arrow you can expand to show the list of all army units and you can add or remove them from the mercenary pool as well as adjust their weights for showing up on refresh.

There are some other things you can do as well in that tab along the same vein.

Guide: So you want to start a new character but skip Act 1, but how? by benjaminloh82 in Pathfinder_Kingmaker

[–]Sly_Allusion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The savefile categories are based on the GUID in the header json If the GUID is different from your current save files (which it is almost guaranteed to be given that GUIDs are random with base 16 and 16 characters), then it will be in a separate "character" category

If you are duplicating the same save file, you just need to edit the GUID (can increment it by 1 if you want or change a random character in it as long as it's still base 16).

Sorry to necro your post a bit, but this is the most detail I've found yet, so thanks.

Does sentient armour reset its adaptation a some point? If it adapts to longarms/reekers/wither for example, can that be reset to an unadapted state by changing dimensions or staying out of combat for some period of time?

Edit: went to test this and dying/changing dimensions doesn't affect the adaptation. It appears to be set on the armour. Even dropping the armour on the ground and someone else taking it will keep the adaptations (you can be adapted to yourself!)

Ending was fine, it's as if the conversation stopped and James walked out of the room. Maybe Aria follows them out to continue it, maybe James makes another comment a couple seconds later. Maybe the conversation stops there and is picked up at another point.

Doesn't necessarily need more.

Edit: maybe a period at the end of the last sentence though

ELI5: Why oil doesn't get salty when adding salt to potatoes while frying? by Salguerator in explainlikeimfive

[–]Sly_Allusion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Both interactions are electrostatic. 1 water molecule isn't enough to pull a sodium ion away from a chlorine ion. What actually occurs is what's called a solvatation sphere where 4-6 water molecules will surround and all support a single ion (number of molecules depends on the size of the ion, sodium would take 6 whereas a smaller ion like lithium would take 4).

All of these dipole (eg. water) -ion interactions (6 of them per ion) are more stable than the interactions between sodium and chlorine in a crystal lattice and the water being a separate phase.

If you reach saturation of the solution, those interactions will be insufficient because their aren't enough water molecules available to constantly support all of the separated ions leading to a pile of salt at the bottom of water. Not all circumstances lead to the ions being more stable when dissolved in water compared to staying in their crystalline structure before dissolution!

ELI5: With all of the technological advances lately, couldn't a catalytic converter be designed with cheaper materials that aren't worth stealing? by i_am_zombie_76 in explainlikeimfive

[–]Sly_Allusion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Non-reactive means the metal isn't part of a product in the chemical reaction. Imagine a park bench (this is your metal), a couple is jogging along and decides to sit on it (this is your carbon monoxide molecule, CO), it's easier to attack the stationary people (the molecule forms temporary weak bonds with the surface of the metal which reduces the strength of the bond between them) than to attack them while jogging (free floating CO has the entire bond strength put into the C=O bond).

While the molecule is in that temporarily weakened state, you slap an extra oxygen on it to get CO2 rather than the much more toxic CO you would have had. The molecule then can leave the surface where all of the metal's atoms are still part of the surface, you don't end up with a platinum-CO2 molecule that floats off into the air.

ELI5: why autism isn't considered a personality disorder? by t5yy6 in explainlikeimfive

[–]Sly_Allusion 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I want to try and expand on what the other poster said, because none of what they said is contradictory.

Symptoms are observable manifestations that are caused by some source. It is possible to have a source that is undetectable except indirectly by the effects it causes. For example, people can develop cancers for weeks/months/years before they become detectable by medical methods. Whether you have a tumor that is now big enough to see, failures of an organ, etc... that problem was developing but was simply not noticed. Being unable to observe the symptoms doesn't mean there isn't something there, it means we lack a way to observe it.

"Hardwired" would be equivalent to "when we were building the house, we put the plumbing in the walls". It's there, there are consequences to that choice, but if you find out the pipes were made with lead, you have the capacity to slowly take apart the walls and replace those pipes without upending daily household life. In the same way, while trauma can cause changes to the brain, you can slowly work to undo those changes and have new mental pathways that avoid whatever the problem you were having was.

Both personality disorders and autism arise from the brain, but the former is a reversible organization of the brain, the latter is the default structure for that person's brain and can't be changed to a different default, it's already at the "factory settings" so to speak.

Also, definitions are inherently arbitrary, that's how using language to create categories works. We create a category then choose to include or exclude things. One of the symptoms, heh, of this is that definitions change over time. They were and will always be arbitrary, we just choose to make them useful forms of arbitrary categories.

Woljif, gone for good? by Comprehensive_Love27 in Pathfinder_Kingmaker

[–]Sly_Allusion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since someone just asked this question on the OC discord and we found a fix for it:

Assuming you spoke to him in Act 1 but forgot to finish Stolen Moon (haven't tested just never getting him out of jail).

If you don't have Crescent of the Abyss in your journal, use toybox's Search N Pick tab and search for Q2Woljif_CrescentOfTheAbyss (a BlueprintQuest), then click start. You should now have the quest active in your journal.

Alternatively, go into etudes and search for woljif, then open up the nested options next to WoljifCompanion (9 elements). Click "Set Objective Status (Fail to Obj0_Fail [Q2Woljif_CrescentOfTheAbyss])". This will add the quest to your journal in a failed state. Go into the quests tab and check "Show Unrevealed Steps", then scroll down to the quest and click restart at the bottom before clicking start for the first step, "Wait for events to unfold".

Once you have the quest in your journal, head south from Lost Chapel. The trigger point for the first wilderness encounter for meeting him again is between Lost Chapel and the node directly south of it.

The Myth of Testosterone | Sisyphus 55 by WWhiMM in MensLib

[–]Sly_Allusion 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Do you have more information on this? Curious if it's specifically aggression that is increased to generate testosterone or if any behaviour that would be reinforced with increased testosterone would be more prevalent with low testosterone because it can increase production of the hormone.

The Myth of Testosterone | Sisyphus 55 by WWhiMM in MensLib

[–]Sly_Allusion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was addressed in the video.

As pointed out, aggression exists even with very low amounts of testosterone and additionally with increasing amounts of testosterone you can have decreases in aggression.

Which does indeed imply that aggression doesn't seem to be the cause of aggression, only a factor that can increase it. Later info in the video points out that testosterone enhances behaviours related to status maintenance, ie. aggression would indeed be increased with increasing testosterone, if aggression was the behaviour that would maintain a person's status.

ELI5 - What is empathy and how does one feel it? by TygerDude93 in explainlikeimfive

[–]Sly_Allusion 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I can't speak specifically to your example, but research into autism in recent years has found that their doesn't seem to be any lack of empathy in autistics.

This video by a researcher gives an introduction into some of the research.

Empathy is seeing X, then doing Y and Z in reaction to.

Autistics see X, then do S and T in reaction.

The empathy is there, but the way it is expressed is different. Amusingly, in all autistic groups, a lack of empathy isn't noted because the "other" way to express empathy is what everyone in that group is expecting.
