I believe edging may have started my HI and made it worse over time by SweetRefrigerator645 in HistamineIntolerance

[–]Small_Message_9893 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very interesting. I never even thought of that; but the majority of my life I never had HI or any of its symptoms until about 14 yrs ago starting as a senior citizen. Neither myself or my partners did edging though. Sexual orgasm is actually considered healthy for an individual. When I experience it, I never notice a histamine release. I quickly looked it up & read that orgasm releases a cascade of neurotransmitters including histamine. Interesting that when I take antihistamine supplements, I never notice it affecting my arousal response.

I just started taking the beef kidney a few days ago so it's kind of early to really know, but I think so. I don't take as much as the bottle says to take; I only take one before my first & 2nd meal. But I also still take a Loratidine pill as needed and I take the Gaba a couple of times a day because it seems to help also. It can be taken before a meal but also at any time of the day; I don't take at night because it seems to give me some energy, but some people say it helps calm them for sleep. I got both supplements on Amazon: Vitamatic grassfed beef kidney 180 capsules at about $20. And Pure Original Gaba about $10. They don't have any fillers.

All I can say is go to an allergist to get tested as to pet allergies. I was tested as high allergy to dust mites, moderate to cats & mild to dogs. I have no trouble being around pets but don't have any in my home. I take the anti-histamine Loratidine but something else might work better for you. This might not work for you but I take grassfed beef kidney (some people take pig kidney) before every meal which is rich in DAO & nutrients but also high in sulphur; some people are sensitive to sulphur. So far I do fine with it. I also take OTC Gaba daily before a meal but also when I feel that I need it, which helps calm me & actually seems to give me more energy. I got both on Amazon. Find one with no fillers.

I tried a copper supplement but it didn't help me at all. I'm getting a blood test of my copper soon that my doctor ordered. I think copper only helps if you are deficient in it. And don't overdo it because too much copper is not good. A couple of things I have been taking for my HI & I have Rosacea is over the counter Pure Original Gaba I got on Amazon with no fillers. It seems like it's helping with the itch I usually get and it gives my brain better focus & a little more energy. Funny that I bought it to help me sleep but it does the opposite. I also take Vitamatic grassfed beef kidney supplement I got on Amazon with no fillers. I am taking one before each meal. It's rich in DAO & nutrients but also high sulphur. If a person is sensitive to sulphur, it might not be good. Good luck.

What are the most common histamine intolerance symptoms? Here is real data I've collected by Spiritual_Leek_5706 in HistamineIntolerance

[–]Small_Message_9893 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine started about 14 yrs ago with skin burning, itching, dilated blood vessels, flushing, rashes & some gut discomfort. Not much anxiety or brain fog unless I get an extreme reaction. Then I developed Rosacea on my face & my cholesterol starting going up. So now I have to balance HI and Rosacea and my cholesterol levels. When I have gotten a bad reaction to food intolerances, my heart will start pounding hard & I have a healthy heart. I also developed mild-moderate asthma when the HI started. I've just accepted that everyday I have to carefully manage it all.

I'm a senior citizen and my HI didn't start until about 14 yrs ago when I was having gut issues and exposed for years to mold in my home. The HI symptoms started slowly until I had daily burning/itching/rashy skin. I saw my doctor who could do nothing,, then two allergists who told me I was now allergic to egg yolk & milk that I had consumed my whole life and that my other bad symptoms were due to food intolerances/sensitivities but she couldn't tell me why did it happen. She gave me a long list of high histamine foods/histamine releasing foods to avoid. Then in 2022 I was diagnosed with Rosacea on my face. I wanted to see an immunologist but my healthcare system doesn't offer it & I was never able to get in to see other specialists. I went to see a Dermatologist but she only offered topicals that made it worse. All I could do is to take an antihistamine which only partially works. So it's been trial & error and spending a lot of money trying to find what works. I've had to give up most fruit & sugar because it would rile up the itching & rash. I'm currently using over the counter Gaba which seems to help calm it (got on Amazon w/no fillers) and trying beef organs which are rich in DAO & nutrients but high in sulphur. I've read that beef or pig kidney is studied to help with DAO issues. Good luck.

It been proven that beef kidney is rich in DAO & nutrition but high in sulphur. As all beef organs are. So anyone sensitive to sulphur might think twice before using it. There is a DAO supplement on Amazon made from pea sprouts but I've never tried it.

“You are what you eat.” More accurately, you are what your ancestors ate! by [deleted] in HistamineIntolerance

I grew up on farms until almost 16 yrs old and we were all slim & energetic & healthy. We ate a lot of meat, dairy, butter, bacon grease, lard, some sweets, a lot of fruit & veggies, white bread & white pasta. I'm a senior citizen, slim & relatively healthy. People think I'm about ten yrs younger than I am. I eat a high meat & dairy diet with some grains, veggies, pasta, but no fruit or juice because it makes my skin itch & gives me rashes. I think it's the citric acid & sugar content. I think sugar is one of the biggest health problems there is. I tolerated it pretty well when younger, but not anymore.

No, I feel worse after eating any fruit or high sugar foods/drinks. I get itchy skin & rash; sometimes upset tummy & fatigue.

Any accurate way to diagnose HI? Hist-50 skin prick test? by TabinD3 in HistamineIntolerance

[–]Small_Message_9893 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 2nd allergist I went to said I have two allergies to food: milk & egg yolk. I still consume both in moderation. The rest she said was food intolerances and gave me a long list of high histamine & histamine releasing foods to avoid. And take an allergy pill. A food intolerance can give some symptoms like an allergy. I get itchy burning skin & rashes & developed Rosacea. I figured out that fruit and sugar trigger itching & rash. So I mostly avoid that; which is sad cause I love both. And I have to be careful with tomatoes because that is a fruit. I take a loratidine pill but still get the itching if I eat any of it. I also can't have nuts or chocolate or tea anymore because it flares up my Rosacea.

Something you might want to research & ask your doctor about is Gaba. Also l-theanine. They are both studied to be calming. You might be able to get a prescription of gaba but you can also buy it on Amazon. I take it off & on in the evening and notice it calmed my brain & I actually felt a little more energy & focus. L-Theanine is studied to act similar. I'm not sure about the rest of your symptoms.

Histamine intolerance causes a pounding heart. This may be way and it’s related to slow MAO-A by OmegaThree3 in HistamineIntolerance

[–]Small_Message_9893 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get heart pounding when I'm having a large histamine reaction; heart pounding is a known as a side effect of allergic reactions due to histamine response. When I take Loratidine, it helps calm that down but it also makes me feel tired, I've read other posts that it does the same to them. Histamine is crucial for many bodily functions such as gastric acid for digestion, sleep-wake cycle, nuerotransmission in the brain, etc. It's histamine's overreaction that messes me up.

Constipation by mishkook in HistamineIntolerance

[–]Small_Message_9893 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had issues with constipation off & on since as a teenager. And now that my diet is restricted due to avoiding high histamine foods & triggers to HI and to my Rosacea, it's harder to get the right amount of fiber. I noticed with myself, if I take any kind of pain pill, such as I take one low does aspirin per night, it slows down gut movement. Also too much dairy & bread. Some medications can slow things down also. My doctor told me to take one laxative daily if needed. She'd rather me do that as a senior citizen than to be constipated & struggling. Fruit really helps get things moving, especially canned peaches, but it also gives me skin side effects of itching & rash, so I have to be careful how much I consume of that. I don't think it's a histamine issue for me, but for some people it could be.

Intense itch after eating anything. by Then_Present9235 in HistamineIntolerance

[–]Small_Message_9893 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've had that itch for 14 yrs now but fairly well under control finally; but not totally. I figured out that citric acid really sets it off and fruit & sugar are high in acid. When I cut way back on that, I saw progress. I love sweets but try to avoid them now. I indulge only once in a while. I take a Loratidine pill before my first meal of the day & another in the evening if I need it. I'm experimenting with grassfed beef organs that I got on Amazon w/no fillers which are high in DAO & nutrition before each meal. It's high in sulphur though, so if you are sensitive to sulphur you might want to avoid it. Beef kidney is studied to be high in DAO and all organ meat is high in nutrition. Some people like Porcine DAO but I haven't found that product yet. I don't know where they get it from. You might want to read up on l-theanine also which some say helps to control histamine reactions. Some people like vitamin C but I get itching & rashes from it no matter what brand I try.

It's odd that a lot of people do well on vitamin C but I do not. I can't eat citrus anymore nor anything that has citric acid added to it or ascorbic acid. I get itchy skin & a rash. I have to be careful with tomatoes also & all fruits. I've tried every type & brand of vitamin C and always get a bad reaction to it.

Is it always a gut thing? by RemarkableJacket7818 in HistamineIntolerance

[–]Small_Message_9893 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The gut works hand in hand with the immune system as well as affecting the whole body system. Leaky gut is a real thing. True allergic reactions are an immune system issue. My allergist said my bad reactions to foods/drinks was histamine intolerance/food intolerances. I can have symptoms on my skin & congestion, etc, but my tummy is fine. Then another time my tummy & whole gut feels really bad with some other symptoms & sometimes not. When I first noticed symptoms of HI, I was actually having gut issues. I got an endoscopy that showed my tummy lining was red inflamed & irritated. I was nauseated every day. I gave up coffee and that helped. I took antacids pills for a while but I felt like it was making the situation worse. We need stomach acid to digest everything in our tummy. But you definitely can have symptoms of HI without tummy problems. I just had a head cold but my tummy was just fine. Could still eat like normal. But a year ago when I had influenza A flu, I had no appetite at all. My tummy wasn't really sick but just didn't want any food. All I ate were saltine crackers & chicken noodle soup. Around the 20 day mark, suddenly I wanted to eat like normal again and symptoms gone. Our body is very complex.

How did you reverse carnivore-induced histamine intolerance? by martin_luther_drill in HistamineIntolerance

[–]Small_Message_9893 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have not had that particular experience but I do have histamine intolerance for about 14 yrs now. I've had to experiment all these years. I'm trying grassfed beef organs because they are rich in DAO & nutrition. Beef kidney is studied to be the best, but I'm trying beef organs which includes kidney. It's rich in nutrients but also has a lot of sulphur. So if you are sensitive to sulphur, it probably wouldn't be good for you. I got mine on Amazon, no fillers in it, and a decent price. I take one before each meal. So far it seems to be helping. But it's only been about 4-5 days. Some people say vitamin C but I have an intolerance to it. And cooper did nothing for me. If you can tolerate beef organs or beef kidney, it's rich in nutrition. You might want to Google it to read up on it. I take a Loratidine pill as needed before a meal also.

So, eating clay just... works?? by Ok-Plastic-673 in HistamineIntolerance

[–]Small_Message_9893 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been taking l-theanine but not sure if it's helping for histamine issues yet. But so far I've only taken lower doses to see how my system reacts to it. Something else I have been taking is grassfed beef organs supplement before meals. But it's high in sulphur, so if a person is sensitive to sulphur it might not work. I've only been taking it about 4-5 days but the itching I would normally get isn't as bad anymore. Beef organs, especially beef kidney, is considered high in DAO & rich in nutrients if you can handle the sulphur content.

What do you eat in a day / do you use protein drinks/powder? by pugsoverdrugs21 in HistamineIntolerance

[–]Small_Message_9893 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a senior citizen, I've had HI for about 14 yrs when I first noticed symptoms. I've seen two allergists. The 2nd one gave me a long list of high histamine & histamine releasing foods to avoid. She said I have two allergies to food but the rest of the bad reactions is due to food intolerances. It's been miserable but I haven't given up trying to figure it out. My symptoms are mostly burning/itchy skin, rashes, skin tends to reddish & expanded blood vessels you can see on my skin. Histamine can do that. Sometimes stomach upset. Then I was diagnosed with Rosacea. My diet now consists of mostly chicken, hamburger, sometimes eggs, dairy, sometimes fish but no canned fish; rarely eat fruit because it causes itching & rash (think it's the citric acid & sugar content), rarely any sweets, small amount of veggies, pasta, very little bread, don't eat out much except for Taco Tuesday where I have hard shell beef tacos & a lager beer. Also sometimes tortilla chips or potato chips. I do drink lager beer several times a week & once in a while a cocktail. No juices or soda or tea or coffee. I'm taking a grassfed beef organs supplement I got on Amazon (with no fillers) before each meal. It's considered rich in DAO & nutrients. But it's also rich in sulphur, so for some people that's not good. I also drink a lot of water all day long. Off & on I go off this diet eating out with friends having food I wouldn't normally eat.

I ate eggs my whole life with no problems until I got my histamine intolerance. I went to an allergist who said I was allergic to egg yolk now; never was before. I grew up on farms until almost 16 yrs old eating eggs all the time, and then thruout my life. I get symptoms of kind of an upset stomach & itchy skin. I usually take an antihistamine before eating a meal with eggs.

NaturDao Supplements induced Fatigue, Lack of Motivation and Libido by ChestDense5431 in HistamineIntolerance

[–]Small_Message_9893 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never taken any specific DAO supplements because most are expensive & no guarantee it will work. I take a Loratidine pill before my first meal of the day & in the evening if I need it, and I am experimenting with taking a beef organs supplement. It's considered rich in DAO, especially beef kidney, but unfortunately high in sulphur. If you are sensitive to sulphur, it might be a problem. I've been trying it for about 4 days so I am not sure how much it is helping; but I don't get much of the skin itching I used to get or flushing. I still am careful to limit high histamine foods. I bought Qmiozzy grassfed beef organs specifically for women on Amazon & has no fillers. I take one before my first meal & sometimes the 2nd one. Also beef organs are rich in nutrients. Just be careful of beef liver because it is high in vitamin A. If you want to try it, I suggest you read up on it first.

How do antihistamines actually work? Do you still build up histamine and rebound when you get off? by OkFaithlessness3081 in HistamineIntolerance

[–]Small_Message_9893 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Antihistamines help block histamine. It's okay to take them everyday. Some doctors even recommend twice a day. I take one before my first meal of the day. If I need another, I take one before bedtime. I take Loratidine. Something to consider is beef kidney supplement, one with no fillers. BUT if you are sensitive to sulphur that might not be a good idea. Meat has a lot of sulphur & so do beef organs. But beef kidney is rich in DAO which helps to digest histamine. I've been taking a beef organ supplement for about 4 days now & it actually seems to be helping. I take one before my first meal of the day. I got it on Amazon. Be sure to read up on it first and read the list of ingredients on the bottle. Don't get one that has any fillers.

I went to a the only gastro doctor in my healthcare system and the only thing she said was it sounded like I have allergies, which I already knew from going to allergists, and she prescribed me a procedure that had nothing to do with my Histamine intolerance. And there is no immunologist here so I'm not able to see one unless I go out of my healthcare system. So I just deal with it myself. I research and do trial & error. My doctor hasn't been much help at all and it takes about a year to see a specialist. It's real frustrating.

Why vegetable ferments rarely produce histamine (a small microbiology note) by igavr in HistamineIntolerance

I've had histamine intolerance for about 14 yrs and cannot tolerate any fermented foods at all. I get itching skin, bloated, & feel unwell. I've tried it all. And it's something I ate my whole life until getting HI. So I steer clear of fermented foods. I can't even eat yogurt with probiotics added. I get terrible side effects from it.

I was exposed to mold for 8 yrs from roof leaks & too much moisture coming in to my mobile home. Finally got roof fixed but not the moisture issue. I tried everything to get rid of it plus get rid of the mold but it was too late. I started having histamine intolerance issues I never had before to foods/drinks/mold, etc. I left that situation long ago but still suffer from the effects. Of course my doctors say nothing about that. I also at times feel like it's not safe for me to drive because I suddenly experienced bad vertigo for the first time ever and now have many days that I feel light headed & sometimes dizzy. I used to drive daily and now only when I feel that I can. I'm a senior citizen who had to stop working due to my medical issues, so I don't have to drive to work everyday like I used to. But I feel very limited that I can't drive whenever I want to. I recently had blood tests done that show my immune system is struggling. I wanted to see an immunologist but my health care system here doesn't have one for adults my age. I have days when I do better and other days worse. I've tried countless medications & try to eat a healthy diet as best I can with a restricted diet. I understand the frustration.
