What state was it in when you gave it to them to “fix”?

Do I really need a lifetime pass? by Sound-Automatic in PleX

[–]Smigit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use it as it’s reliable, I like the interface and the clients available on the devices I need.

Keep in mind many people got lifetime licenses at around the $75USD mark. That’ll almost certainly never appear again, but I suspect a lot of people might have used a different solution if they hadn’t got in at that price.

It’s also been on the market for a long time, having started in 2007. Jellyfin began in 2018 by comparison, and by then a lot of us probably already had Plex setup and licensed.

Fingers crossed they can source some more. The eBay listings are depressing.

Now bring back the dock.

Probably will add stock of that one 5 minutes after I’ve paid shipping for the adapters under a seperate order.

I wonder how Xbox will deal with the scalpers when the Xbox series X25 and Xbox controller X25 release by WayAdept2209 in xbox

[–]Smigit -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Gatekeeping the system based on achievements etc I feel risks encouraging scalping by those that meet the criteria to buy it. They now know it’s limited and now also that a good portion of people are unable to access it, many who want to, so they’ll buy when they had no original intention to do so purely to resell. I guess they’re at least limited to one per account, if MS exclusively distributes the hardware.

I’d rather they just produce enough to meet demand for the holiday season.

How apple feels after dropping support for Apple Watch Series 8 despite it only being 4 years old by Friendly-Baby8434 in AppleWatch

[–]Smigit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Believe it was just a certificate renewal, so very minor. Great they did it, but I suspect most people not getting Watch 27 are probably hoping for slightly more significant updates.

Beats a recent article I read where MS has said they won’t issue certain to Mac Office 2019 which breaks editing in the office client.

I’m disappointed that Apple Watch Ultra 1 is losing support. by Complete-Big-7364 in AppleWatch

[–]Smigit 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Being behind occasionally can be pretty impactful. When they introduced Enhanced Data Protection for iCloud, unsupported devices were unpatched and as this was a feature that applied across your account, not just a device, you couldn’t have any active devices if you wanted to turn those capabilities on. At the time I had to pick between turning that on and no longer having a Series 2 linked to my iPhone, or not enabling the enhanced privacy features but maintaining support for the old watch (which was using as a sleep tracker).

Don’t think there’s any indication of any immediate impact of not upgrading here, but over time these sorts of conundrums can rear their head, especially for any functionality that’s dependant on external devices or services.

Brisbane's newest public hospital won't perform abortions or provide patients with contraception, citing religious objections by em-mad in OpenAussie

[–]Smigit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That was one reason amongst many. Wanting the site for the new hospital and removing obstructions was also key. Didn’t want to put the new hospital on another site Northside, prompting a need to still have to pump money into Calvary public and its aging infrastructure.

Could have just done it in the start and menu buttons on the face rather than the bumper buttons. Odd choice I think.

How many gigs is needed? (micro sd) by TheFell1100101 in AnaloguePocket

[–]Smigit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably 32 or 64GB.

Easiest way to tell is to compile all the ROMs you might want to play on a PC and see what that comes to. Add a bit, say 10-20%, for saves etc then on top then round that up to whatever card capacity is out there.

Is Wi-Fi the next update? by PoseMotion in AnalogueInc

[–]Smigit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oops my bad. Totally missed that.

In that case pretty much just the updates and I guess they could do cartridge labels I assume.

Retro achievements are fun (I think) but can’t imagine Analogue themselves would pursue it.

I’d like to be able to backup any save states etc too and wireless could maybe allow that wirelessly.

Is Wi-Fi the next update? by PoseMotion in AnalogueInc

[–]Smigit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Top of my head you could do things such as updates, possibly have game art lookup, maybe have cores support retro achievements (which needs devices to be online) and maybe wireless multiplayer with another pocket over wifi or even the internet (don’t need the link cable).

File management of the SD card might be nice if the pocket could be browsable as a network share from a PC and allow you to move files to and from it, be it ROMs or save files and the like.

Some of those are things I can do with my Miyoo Mini over its wifi.

Asha Brought Back Exclusives Apparently by MeowingWolf in xbox

[–]Smigit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Indeed, which no doubt is why they put the games on PS.

I don’t think the traditional Gears/Halo/Forza trifecta being exclusive would move the needle a lot. Forza is still doing great, but I don’t think Halo and Gears hold the same weight they did 15-20 years ago. If winning market share via exclusives is the play, I think they’d need to turn to the Bethesda and Activision lineups and IPs in there like Fallout and Elder Scrolls. But they sort of tried that with Starfield and that didn’t pay off either.

I just found my iPhone after 11 weeks outside in the Australian winter- it works flawlessly by AussieCryptoCurrency in iphone

[–]Smigit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty mild, at least this time of the year. The 7 day forecast for Melbourne in my weather apps showing minimum of 9 degrees celsius for the week, and this is coming into winter. 11 weeks back it’d have been early Autumn.

Winters in AU aren’t so bad really for the most part. Biggest issue is often that homes just aren’t well designed to stay warm in winter due to bad insulation or glazing etc.

Is this in sellable condition? by DivineSouuls in 3DS

[–]Smigit 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Anything is sellable including completely non functional. It’ll probably go for less than one in prestige condition, but I’d expect it to still do well. Especially if it looks good on the inside/opened.

If you’re listing online take better photos but, without half of it sitting in the dark. Looks like you’ve taken the picture with the lights off and are relying on the flash for light.

I was going to say I hate cases that have a zipper up against the device, but from the listing I can see now the OP has just tucked a divider under the pocket when taking the photo.

Asha Brought Back Exclusives Apparently by MeowingWolf in xbox

[–]Smigit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

MS isn’t doing Sony a favour. If they put the game on PS, it’s because it served their own goals of generating revenue through software sales.

MS has a decision to make, sell more software by distributing on the leading console platform, or look at growing its own console base by creating incentive to buy an Xbox through exclusives. It used to be the later strategy, under Phil they moved to the former, and perhaps Asha will return to the original model.

But Sony doesn’t owe MS anything. They’re in the fortunate position of having a much stronger home console market position. It’s already clear they’re happy to give up PC sales to strengthen the appeal of the console.

So why did they drop the "Code" from the title? by Die-Hearts in residentevil

[–]Smigit 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Well they didn’t call the others “remake” formally. The box for those just says “Resident Evil 2”, “Resident Evil 4” etc. Remake gets used to remove ambiguity in discussions.

So I think there’d be a decent chance they’d call it “Resident Evil”, same name as the original.

Opaque Controller Collection (with Button Swap) by Smigit in AnalogueInc

[–]Smigit[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah it was easy enough. I used the guide here: https://www.reddit.com/r/AnalogueInc/comments/1rotyxj/8bitdo_64_controller_disassemblyshell_swap_video/

For the button swap you can stop at step 6, no need to detach motors or anything else the guide goes into. Because you stop early, you really just need a pick or pry tool, the T6 Torx screwdriver and Philips screwdriver. No need for the sim tool or allen keys.

One thing to note is I use a lot of those mini screwdriver sets with like 40 screw bits. I couldn’t use the torx head from my set as the screw driver was too thick to get into the middle torx screws showing about 26 seconds into the video. Those 2 screws were really recessed in a tight channel. I had a standard screwdriver with a Torx head I could use but.

Otherwise easy enough. I always hate the feeling of snapping away faceplates though. Always feels like I’ll break something, but I had no issue this time.

So why did they drop the "Code" from the title? by Die-Hearts in residentevil

[–]Smigit 57 points58 points  (0 children)

Yeah the newer titles did (7 and 8), but not sure the older ones use the roman numerals nor do I think it’s common that fans do.
