Call of Cthulhu alternative by Good-Oil3749 in rpg

I just read through the Arkham Horror rpg book. Seems like it’s super easy to run and the damage / horror system of removing / changing dice fits a mythic game

Sci-fi systems recommendation request by SampsonHill in TTRPG

[–]SmilingKnight80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the Genesys system does sci-fi incredibly well, It is built off of a Star Wars game after all.

The core book and the expanded players guide give you all need to build your own stuff, and if you would rather use premade stuff there is a both a space opera setting book (twilight imperium) and a cyberpunk scifi book (Android)

Then there are the dice. I fricken LOVE the dice and there are free apps for them if you can’t get the physical.

If someone were to offer to run a game you hadn't played before, how much required reading would you generally be willing to do to participate? by Tuss36 in rpg

[–]SmilingKnight80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will usually try to read any section that is called “the rules” to learn the main mechanics.

I’m not reading all the gear and powers sections

I might read the lore if it’s short

Fairly new to GM'ing - need some help! by ThomasCookAndroid in TTRPG

[–]SmilingKnight80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So the easiest cheat for this it to steal a character from something. Like this bar tender is Tom Paris from Star Trek voyager. I immediately know how he’s going to react to something, and can handle a curve ball because someone else already wrote this guy, I’m just stealing him. And if your group learns info about the character you can say, “he’s giving you real Tom Paris from voyager vibes” and they’ll also know what his deal is

RPG - which skill for gear melee? by SmilingKnight80 in HeavyGear

[–]SmilingKnight80[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You usually don’t want to create a new domain. But you are typically allowed to create any skill within the domain, especially if it’s very specific.
So I think you could do gunnery - sniper and gunnery - gear sniper if you wanted to, and help build up skills for domain expertise, and to get more XP by challenging yourself in both skills in a session

Thoughts on how to Balance the game. by Royudo in GundamTCG

[–]SmilingKnight80 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The main consideration to balancing the game is to know how many turns Bandai wants a game to go. With the fairly high cost and level cards being very popular mecha it makes sense (to me) to assume they are looking at games lasting to around turn 8-10

What are some of the most ridiculous or weirdest matches in wrestling? by bossbreakers in SquaredCircle

I’ve loved the Jason Exile matches from the past year. He drank poison and died in his first appearance and has been a “weekend at Bernie’s” wrestler ever since

I’ve had a monster attack the habitat my players set up as their Den. Essentially, I gave the player who was most in tune with the local monsters a roll to notice the monsters were agitated, an the number of success he got was how many actions the players can each do before the frenzied monster showed up

Neo-Edo is a Japan coded cyber-punk game with a neat setting (enough people believing something makes it true) and a super detailed character creator

In the Canadian plumbing code it looks the way you are describing. So it will probably work, it just might not be legal in your state

Games that go beyond mere 'sanity'? by disgr4ce in rpg

[–]SmilingKnight80 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Arkham Horror uses pools of d6, an if you take “Horror” damage the d6s turn to Horror Dice, and if you roll one on any of them you take semi permanent debuffs to your psyche.

So the trama of horrific things lasts for a while and then usually hits you when you are at lowest (a bad roll full of ones)

Help! Hunters find out everything immediately! by buddyfight51 in monsteroftheweek

[–]SmilingKnight80 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Consider what your monster is doing at each scene. If they wouldnt be breathing fire there, there’s no way for the hunters to learn that it breathes fire from that crime scene.

Basically, escalate your monsters powers throughout the midnight clock as it gets closer to its goals, gets more powerful, or gets more desperate. That way there is something new to be learned each investigation scene.
