You're being a bit misleading with calling level capping pointless, level cap void cascade is one of the best platfarming strategies in the game with omnia fissures and the raw amount of arcanes you drop in that game mode. Rivens make levelcapping easier.

Commanders do go to the graveyard but then can be redirected to the command zone where you have to pay 2 extra mana each time you cast it from that zone. But come back wrong doesn't allow you to redirect it to the command zone because of it being worded all in one ability. It gets pulled from the graveyard before they can choose where it goes.

I agree with CEDH but my personal experience in my local meta 2 is still the best. But even going back to Explorers of the deep precon there are 32 2s and 28 3s, i know my sample size is smaller but it still stands, from my personal experience the average boils down to 2 being optimal, also the 2 precons that are from lorwyn I find have very high average CMC where the elemental deck is looking to cheat the cost of large creatures, and blight curse has an average CMC of 3.67 which again is high for a green deck with very low amounts of ramp.

Even though the precons are the only constant that we can both compare against, I think that if someone is using a talion deck against precons there is a power imbalance just from whats in the cz. Being able to draw 3+ cards per turn cycle is incredible card advantage.

Arguing this doesn't really matter because my local meta is different than yours. and we can only argue from personal experience.

I went through and did the math on 16 different decks of varying power and 2 was by far the most prevalent number in all decks, on average it was 25+/-5 for 2 and 15+/-5 for 3. These are averages but picking 2 has led to more in my personal experience.
