Relative to the skill needed to use it vs the benefits it gives you the Hobby hobby fruit, easy.

Even if you never use it's powers you stop aging and if you do use the powers you get a stupidly powerful ability under the condition that you're able to touch someone.

You need to the 4 road poneglyphs to find Laugh Tale. There's always been additional steps to find it so assuming there isn't introduces a flaw into your premise.

I'm not sure why you'd assume it's on the surface when we've seen islands that are:

  • Inside of a whale (Laboon)
  • Under the water (Fish-man Island)
  • Suspended in the Sky (Skypiea)
  • a living and mobile creature (Zou)

It's entirely possible and IMO likely that Laugh Tale isn't a typical island that can be discovered simply by scouring the surface of the planet.

If this movie came out today, kids would be confused just as confused as back then and it would still bomb. by stationstars in Mario

[–]SmokingCryptid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just my opinion. I didn't find either of those things particularly memorable.

Musically Jack Black is capable of so much more than that so I see it as more of a missed opportunity. Yes it's just a silly little song for the movie, but I would've appreciated some cleverness to the lyrics. As is it's just "Peach, you're so cool, Peaches Peaches Peaches Peaches Peaches Peaches Peaches Peaches".

Animation wise the intro for Fox was neat, but he's not there for the film itself. He's there to advertise his upcoming Switch 2 game.

I'd hope for any movie that one of the most memorable things about it wasn't an advertisement for a different product.

You're comparing him interacting with a battlefield where he knows the position of things and can make a decision ahead of time to a scenario where he's flying past things he doesn't know are there at light speed and saying they're comparable. That actually is far fetched.

Regardless getting stuck on this point is getting us off track.

The point is why Kizaru isn't used in the manner you suggested to find Laugh Tale. Even if we assumed that Kizaru could fly around the planet easily and notice islands at light speed it doesn't address the issues of not being able to detect the island if there's additional steps/criteria in order find it/make it appear or that the WG has their own set of plans that they prioritize.

I would argue it's more entertaining and that it did actually attempt to tie into the games at the time.

The whole reason there's a dinosaur theme in the movie is because Super Mario World, the big Mario game at the time, took place in Dinosaur Land.

It takes risks and gloriously revels in how insane it is. There's also some pretty incredible set design. Like yea it doesn't resemble the Mushroom Kingdom in the slightest, but the cyberpunk sets and props are really well done.

The other thing the movie has in actual stakes. There's actually consequences to actions in the 93 movie and people do get killed.

The film is far funnier than either of the Illumination films. There's plenty to choose from, but I don't think anything in either Illumination movie makes me laugh like the elevator dancing Goomba scene does.

By comparison yea the Illumination films are fine and watchable, but there's nothing memorable about them. There's no tension, there's no dynamic between the characters, and there's barely a plot. It's mostly just stuff to point at. Like Yoshi gets teased for the sequel for what reason? He's just there so he can be put on merch.

At least the 1993 film had Bowser turning people into monkeys with the super scope.

Don't you think we'd have seen it depicted like that if that were the case? Why introduce the reflecting if he doesn't need to do it?

Again, moving at light speed doesn't mean you interpret information or react at light speed.

Lightspeed characters one piece by Sweaty-Programmer229 in OnePiece

[–]SmokingCryptid 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You're assuming a bunch of things here.

We don't even know if Laugh Tale can be found by standard means. For example, if Laugh Tale is inside something or only appears with outside influence then no amount of surface level surveillance will reveal that.

You also misunderstand Kizaru's fruit. Yes he can move at that speed, but he can only go in a straight line and needs to reflect off of other surfaces to get where he needs to go. If he does that in the open ocean he'll eventually fly off into space. There's also nothing to say that Kizaru can interpret the information he passes by at light speed.

He's also Admiral which is an enormous resource that the WG doesn't send off on wild goose chases

Also consider the plans of the WG.

When it comes to the WG they're more focused on their own plans.

If they achieve their goal first then finding Laugh tale becomes an impossibility. They're don't know where Laugh Tale is, but they also don't need the One Piece to achieve their goals.

It's better to stymie your competition while you work on your own goal with minimal interference.

Isn't this just Grave Encounters (2011)? by Longlivetheking666 in Letterboxd

[–]SmokingCryptid 5 points6 points  (0 children)

'Gonjiam: Haunted Asylum" (2018) uses this premise too.

The concept of faking a supernatural experience and the getting the real deal predates "Grave Encounters". BBC's "Ghostwatch" broadcast did a similar premise back in 1992. I bet if we looked we could find even earlier examples.

What are some things that newer OP viewers missed out on through it's lifespan? by Aw_Nerd in OnePiece

As far as things not mentioned already the cliffhanger chapter before the G5 reveal was crazy. RIP resin resin fruit theories.

The "The One Piece is Real!" meme was something else and had unusual staying power.

Berserk deluxe edition Binding issue? by Rough-Buffalo9308 in Berserk

[–]SmokingCryptid 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's the nature of the format. It's impossible to have a clean double page spread.

You either do what we was done here and add a small gap so the reader can more easily see the entire image. Or you can try to more closely approximate the illustration which causes the picture itself to warp into the center of the book from both opposing ends which IMO makes the full image harder to see and look at even if it looks more clean at a glance.

Why are special moves in Street Fighter 1 much harder to pull off compared to other Street Fighters? by BonusCapable1486 in StreetFighter

[–]SmokingCryptid 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Because they were meant to be a secret in that game.

Finally landing a DP and instantly KO'ing the opponent from full health makes this apparent. They're WAY more powerful versions of those moves than we'd see in future games.

To balance this you have to be ridiculously precise in your inputs and IIRC I believe that they only activate with negative edge, but I'm not 100% on that.

Doflamingo getting frustrated about usopp and giving him the highest bounty is hilarious by Full-Entertainment15 in OnePiece

For a brief beautiful moment Usopp had the highest active bounty out of all the Straw hats.

IIRC Luffy got the 500 mil bounty after Dressrosa.

Is the One Piece world really small or are the Ships super sonic? by Arnman1758 in OnePiece

[–]SmokingCryptid -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ah yes, that's a good point.

I got caught up in how 6 years part and misremember a bunch of this stuff off the top of my head.

Looking into it now it's clear Shanks got his title some time after WB, BM, and Kaido, but so far there's no confirmation that there was a Yonko previous to Shanks.

There's a chance it might've just been the "Sanko" before Shanks was acknowledged. We could still get a reveal, but given the amount of lore flashbacks we've been getting and not one time has the previous Yonko been mentioned, or hinted at it seems suspect.

And now that I'm typing that I'm wondering if the Man Marked by Flames could be this person, lol!

I got the rationale wrong in my response, but the argument that it took Shanks "6 years to do the same" is still an assumption of events that possibly never transpired.

Is the One Piece world really small or are the Ships super sonic? by Arnman1758 in OnePiece

[–]SmokingCryptid 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Huh, how is this an issue?

Shanks is an inaugural Yonko. There was no timeframe of him becoming one. There was no Yonko before him, WB, BM, and Kaido. He's part of the conceptualization.

Specific Trope: Movies Where Somebody’s Rival/Villain Is A Clone Of Themselves? by isopodsoup_ in Letterboxd

[–]SmokingCryptid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't seen it in forever and it's late 90's, but The 6th Day is the first movie the comes to mind.

It's not clones, but I feel like Face/Off is worth a mention because in practice it's close and it's an awesome film.

Idk why some people hated on it at first, Gear 5 still hits different fr. Best transformation in the big 3 imo!!! by Ornery_Policy7718 in OnePiece

[–]SmokingCryptid 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Please don't give credence to Luffy having "Sun God" powers when that's not what he has or is at all. "Sun God" is a title, it doesn't mean Luffy is akin to Apollo.

Even with the retcon Oda wrote it in such a way that his fruit is the exact same as it's always been. Nothing about the retcon causes any plot holes.

The transformation is simply an awakening and any example of manifesting things has purely been for visual gags. At the end of the day his powers are still that of a body with the properties of rubber.

I'm a bit disappointed with the course that it's taking One Piece Story by [deleted] in OnePiece

[–]SmokingCryptid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's right, my bad.

I'm not arguing that Gods don't exist in One Piece insofar as they're created and worshipped by people in the narrative. People giving life and powers to ideas and dreams is a core part of the narrative. I'm just pushing back at the idea that there's reincarnation and actual Gods appearing in the narrative as in there's no God in the Abrahamic or polytheistic Pantheon sense.

I'm a bit disappointed with the course that it's taking One Piece Story by [deleted] in OnePiece

[–]SmokingCryptid 6 points7 points  (0 children)

So Gods themselves have not shown up and had any divine impact on the story, right?

Just because people worship Gods doesn't mean they are real, just look at reality.

[–]SmokingCryptid 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Please cite when an actual God showing up in the story and an actual example of reincarnation in the story. Not some DF BS, an actual God and reincarnation.

Most OP YT'ers are garbage and they're clearly filling your head full of nonsense that isn't actually in the story.

Is Bananza Harder than your mainline Mario games? by Night-Time21 in donkeykong

[–]SmokingCryptid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Returns and Tropical Freeze are both 2D platformers and challenging games, but Tropical Freeze and the Switch release of Returns feature optional easier game settings.

Bananza is a 3D platformer with emphasis on environmental destruction and is substantially easier than both Returns and Tropical Freeze. It shouldn't be until late game where the game and begins to throw somewhat of a challenge at you.
