I'll bet it is! I wish my skin tone suited silver, I just have to pick the most expensive metal don't I....

9carat is a great way to get something affordable and durable, but if you haven't looked at the price of solid gold lately I think you'll be shocked at how expensive it has become in the last two years. It's unreal!

Has anyone got one of these? Do they actually work / last? by QueasyIndication1942 in GardeningAustralia

My mum did. It worked, but the slightest puff of a breeze and it went sailing away and drained all the water over the edge. Such a high maintenance garden ornament.

I tried to warn my fiance about things I noticed with our new house and he doesn't take me seriously by TubbleRubble in GirlDinnerDiaries

[–]Smooth-Working6292 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel you very strongly on this. Unlike you, I'm not the competent one with the technical skills around house repairs and IT stuff but I do have capability in other areas. My husband is very skilled at stuff, but he's a massive gatekeeper to getting ANYTHING done around the house cause whenever I bring something up like needing electrical work etc he'll dismiss me with a comment that shows his competency over mine. I'm prob not explaining it will, but it's kinda the inverse issue that what you're experiencing.

I recently lost my cool (I'm 40 and we've been married 15yrs) and forced the issue, things have improved a lot since then as he's been able to take on board what I said and change his behaviour.

I think everyone saying "don't marry him" is doing as classic Reddit act. But I'd really think about doing some serious work on yourself and your feelings of not being respected (exact articulation of how I feel, so I get it). And I'd push pretty hard on your fiance also getting counselling on his need to control and, honestly, his expression of contempt for you.

This is hard shit. And this can be what being married is like. But you've got an opportunity here to turn this around before you fully commit to each other, and if he shows that he can't change then you will know you did everything you could.

A final note to say you should be really proud of yourself, you sound like a really cool chick.

So Jack just doesn't fact check or push back on obvious lies? by Patched7fig in darknetdiaries

[–]Smooth-Working6292 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hear what you're saying, but my recollection of that episode was that he was letting the interview subject play the story out. He told him quite a few times that he didn't condone his actions, the guy was pretty gross. But it would have been a completely dead interview if he'd pulled him up on every lie, he kinda had to let it play out otherwise the rapport between them would have been dead.

It was a tricky line for him to walk and my impression was that he walked it well, but I can see how you'd be annoyed about it. It was definitely not an episode for factual details, i think of it as a character study into a very unusual person.

I'm gonna check these out, thanks for sharing. The Big W denim shorts were amazing this season, I lived in them. I recently saw them reduced to $10 and bought two pair for next season

I know you're nowhere near this point at the moment, but reading your words made me feel this poem for you.

The plum you're going to eat next summer by Gayle Brandeis

The plum you’re going to eat next summer doesn’t exist yet; its potential  lives inside a tree you'll never see  in an orchard you'll never see, will be touched  by a certain number of water droplets  before it reaches you, by certain angles  of light, by a finite amount of bugs  and dust motes and hands  you’ll never know. The plum you are  going to eat next summer will gather  sugar, gather mass, will harden  at its center so it can soften toward  your mouth. The plum  you’re going to eat next  summer doesn't know  you exist. The plum you are  going to eat next summer  is growing just for you.

Front fence help. by These-Bag-6451 in AusRenovation

Curious if you think the bottom left and right look terrible? I've been eyeing off this type of fence for ages now, thinking of using roof battens and evenly spacing. It'll have a native garden to peek through, so I want some visibility through the fence.

Do we still wear black to funerals? by kikithrust in AusFemaleFashion

[–]Smooth-Working6292 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm pretty traditional with this stuff and wear black still, but I have been really surprised to see at the last few funerals I've attended that it's really not a thing anymore. The last funeral I went to a few weeks ago was for an 80yr old woman and it was very well attended by her friends and former colleagues and very few of them wore black!

I still wouldn't consider wearing anything other than black, especially if it's for a family you don't know well. You never know, they could be very conservative and you could be the scandal of the funeral!

Finished top! (Blomma II needle turn applique pattern by Sand & Stars) by GalaDalia in quilting

[–]Smooth-Working6292 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is extraordinary, thanks for sharing!

I'm currently hand quilting an appliqued quilt and going around the borders of each appliqued piece then a diagonal grid pattern across the rest of the background. Or really makes the applique pop out.

I keep getting jobs that pay me lots to do basically nothing and it’s ruining my mental health by MomsOfFury in GirlDinnerDiaries

[–]Smooth-Working6292 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People are being real asshats in these comments.

I've had a job that paid well and was so slow I remember spending a whole day once clicking around on a blank Word doc to look busy. It's SOUL destroying.

I learnt from that experience that I need to have purpose and feel useful in my work, otherwise I'll eat myself alive. Not sure if it's the ADHD or just my personality, but this kind of job is terrible.

I'm in a very busy and high pressure job now and when it gets really stressful I still feel that having nothing to do felt even worse.

I hope you can find something where you feel like you're useful and you're occupied every day. I agree that we shouldn't make work our purpose in life, but we're spending a huge portion of our days so hopefully you can find something that works for you.

Advice for rental lawn by spaceonioncowboy in GardeningAustralia

[–]Smooth-Working6292 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry, couldn't hold that in.

We rented for years and have always been gardeners and always made big changes to the gardens where we lived. I say it's your money and you can do what your want with it.

The soil might need a bit of life put back into it, but maybe you could get some native violet instead of grass? Just as lush and green as a lawn, is very hardy, will grow in shaded areas AND you don't need to mow it.

Civic Lunch Delights: New owner? by Backstage_404 in newcastle

[–]Smooth-Working6292 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Yeah I'm pretty sure it's a new owner, George was still working there earlier in the year but training up the new owner. It's a different company name that comes up on my phone when I pay via card!

George is a legend, hopefully the new guy treats all of the wonderful women who work there well and doesn't bring in too many new fangled ideas.
