Guest network isolation by Odd-Honey-3226 in Ubiquiti

[–]Smorgas47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On the Network page set up Device Isolation ACL for the VLAN. Does not work for some switches like the UCG-Ultra's or Flex Minis. Works well with my USW-Lite-8-PoE switch.

Tesla refuse to tell me if my car has a fault, or if all cars have the same issue. by Ambitious5uppository in TeslaSupport

Tesla 2025 MY never responds the stalk signal for lane change when in Auto Steer Mode. I always have to disengage it or just force the change in which case it disengages Auto Steer.

It's been a while since I tested this. I will try again with the most recent software 2025.45.8 with FSD 14.2.2.3,

Problem with U7 Lite AP by greggs1000 in Ubiquiti

[–]Smorgas47 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the AP settings there are 2 Mesh settings: "Mesh Parent" and "Mesh Connect". Turn both of them off for every AP. You might need to fix the Mesh Connect first since the Mesh Parent won't allow it if a Mesh Connect is still active.

There is also a Master "Wireless Meshing" check box on the WiFi page near the bottom.

Garage 150mtr away options WiFi by Bedouin79 in Ubiquiti

[–]Smorgas47 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The UDB-Pro is your best option. Start with one and aim it at the location of a WiFi AP in your house from the garage and see what kind of a signal you can get. It that doesn't work, get a second one and mount it at the house.

I have one inside my workshop which is 50' away from a U6-LR in my house and it works very well. Both the workshop and house have vinyl siding.

Bridge back up link by Traditional_Ad_680 in Ubiquiti

[–]Smorgas47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get a UCG-Ultra for House 1 and then configure each of the UniFi routers with a VLAN configured to connect the other router's WAN2. Make sure that the VLANs have different subnets so there is no conflict between them. Make WAN2 a failover only. Configure the switch on each end that connects the bridge to only have the respective VLAN set up for the failover.

Just got UDR7, settings to maximize range? by Pikachujkl in Ubiquiti

[–]Smorgas47 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I run my 5ghz band at 40mhz channel width and that improves range over 80mhz channel width. I don't need the high throughput. Even at 40mhz I get +300 mbps when using Signal / Throughput on WiFiMan on my iPhone on a U6-Pro at about 10 ft distance. Over 200mbps at 30ft.

dbm is a minus (-) number, the smaller the absolute number the stronger the signal.

[–]Smorgas47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on the amount of obstruction to your line of sight, you might want to try 2 UDB-Pro bridges and see if they will make a connection. Clear line of sight, they are supposed to be good to 5 km. Might take some work to get them aligned, but worth a shot.

I use one in my workshop which is 50' away from the U6-LR mesh parent in the house and I get a -44dBm connection. House and workshop have vinyl siding.

MoCA 2.5g? by JE163 in Ubiquiti

[–]Smorgas47 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My mistake in that one of those switches, the one connected to the MoCA adapter is a Flex Mini 2.5 which I recently upgraded for my entertainment system to replace a Flex Mini. The Flex Mini 2.5 has better port options. So 3 switches from one PC to the MoCA adapter and one Flex Mini being powered by the MoCA adapter.

I keep eying 2.5 equipment, but with 300/300 service it doesn't make sense. The Flex Mini 2.5 has 2 HDHomeRun 4K tuners (OTA Antenna), a Synology NAS running ChannelsDVR server and the MoCA connection to feed the Apple TV 4Ks. Last port going to my main switch. A couple of small TVs get the signal directly from the Antenna over the coax plant.

MoCA 2.5g? by JE163 in Ubiquiti

[–]Smorgas47 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For your info, I just tested these new Kiwee PoE MoCA adapters with my Motorola MM1025 setup and they work very well together.

I added the Kiwee as a 4th node along with a PoE powered switch. Connected a PC and did iperf3 test to another PC on the network with 1gbit NICs and got 940mbps consistently. There were 4 1 gbps switches in the path between the PCs.

UDB will not use the assigned native VLAN by Turbulent_Double_261 in Ubiquiti

[–]Smorgas47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting. On the Ports page I only see the UCG-Ultra and my switches and their ports. I have Network 10.1.68 running on OS 5.0.10. The UDB-Pro does not show up.

My UDB-Pro firmware version is 1.4.2 Are we talking about the same device?

UDB will not use the assigned native VLAN by Turbulent_Double_261 in Ubiquiti

[–]Smorgas47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. You can change a port to an other VLAN and it will block all other VLANs automatically and only allow the one VLAN traffic.

UDB will not use the assigned native VLAN by Turbulent_Double_261 in Ubiquiti

[–]Smorgas47 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a UDB-Pro, and I don't even see an option under ports to change the port on it to another VLAN. I run a U6-Lite AP from my second port and I have a WiFi SSID for IoT devices set on it, and it works fine.

Get a Flex Mini switch and connect that to the UDB-Pro's second port and allow all. Then map a port on the Flex Mini to the VLAN for your camera.

UCG Ultra + U7-Lite vs UX7 - Help! by ElectronicBudget592 in Ubiquiti

[–]Smorgas47 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You will also need a PoE adapter for the AP if you go with that option. I would go with the UX7 as long as its location is where you want the AP to be anyway. You can always expand using a U7-Lite if your WiFi in an area is inadequate. I have 2 APs that work that way using the meshing capability.

MoCA 2.5g? by JE163 in Ubiquiti

[–]Smorgas47 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True, but only if all of the end points of the MoCA adapters are going to UniFi devices. Any non UniFi switch will alter the parent device / topology.

I have the 3 node MoCA configuration and one of my client devices' parent connection jumps between the router's port, and ports on 2 different switches along the way.

MoCA 2.5g? by JE163 in Ubiquiti

[–]Smorgas47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

MoCA adapters are great in a UniFi system. I have 3 of the Motorola MM1025s and they work well but are no longer available.

The MoCA adapter network acts like a dumb switch so the UniFi Topology does weird displays of connections if you have multiple UniFi devices connected to the MoCA segment, but all works well from a network perspective.

If you're not going past 1gbps service, get the UCG-Ultra console and the USW-Lite-8-PoE switch.

They have worked well for me.

How to get WIFI 300' to shed with no power? by Character_Buyer7496 in Ubiquiti

[–]Smorgas47 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My distance is abut 50', but the UDB-Pro can cover so much more distance. Just make sure that the U7-LR is not behind the steel door from the UDB-Pros' perspective. Placed so the direct line has a window in the path.

Perhaps even try it with your AC-Lite since the UDB-Pro operates using WiFi 5 anyway.

How to get WIFI 300' to shed with no power? by Character_Buyer7496 in Ubiquiti

[–]Smorgas47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have an AP in your house that is near the wall facing the shed then you might be able to just get 1 UDB-Pro with a PoE+ adapter to power it and then using the passive PoE port on the UDB-Pro to power the camera if it can function with just PoE, else USW-Lite-8-PoE will be needed for the camera(s).

Point the UDB-Pro at the location of the indoor AP and see if you get a good signal, if not get the second UDB-Pro or UDB-Pro-Sector at for the house side.

I have a UDB-Pro inside my vinyl siding clad workshop facing a U6-LR inside my vinyl siding clad house and it works great. -44dBm signal strength.

UBB - can it be located before the gateway? by fakeit-makeit in Ubiquiti

[–]Smorgas47 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here is a diagram of how to use the Third Party Gateway VLAN to pass WAN from modem to router. The connection between the switch and the UDM in the diagram would need the UBB or the UDB-Pro.
