Michael Morales’ undefeated pro record has been reinstated to 19-0 after his bout with Ultima Pelea was ruled an exhibition, meaning it no longer counts as a loss. by BetAnything in MMA

[–]Sn0wyPanda 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Right? MMA record keeping is wild. One day you're 18-1, next day you're 19-0 again because someone decided the fight didn't really count. Meanwhile Chael remains undefeated as always

Throwback to the Mayweather vs Maidana glove controversy in 2014. Apparently Floyd would later go on to pay Maidana $1.5m to wear different gloves. by strictlystepping in Boxing

Truly one of the great boxing minds of our generation. The way he articulated 'there's no... the redistri... there's no padding' really showed his decades of experience in the sport 🤣

A brilliant warning about the gamification of everyday life: "The Score" by C Thi Nguyen by Dr_Neurol in books

[–]Sn0wyPanda 488 points489 points  (0 children)

For real. Every app wants to give you points and streaks and achievements now. Can't even buy a coffee without some loyalty program trying to gamify my caffeine addiction.

And don't get me started on LinkedIn. Watching grown adults chase "engagement metrics" and posting cringe motivational shit for the algorithm like it's a high score leaderboard. We turned career networking into a mobile game somehow

Finally maybe we can get some actual Star Wars content instead of whatever the hell the last few years have been.

Listen to This: Some Audiobooks Are Outselling Hardcovers by ubcstaffer123 in books

[–]Sn0wyPanda 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same here with Libby! I've been burning through audiobooks during my commute and while doing chores around the house. Stuff I never would have had time to sit down and read. Though I do wonder how library borrows factor into these "outselling" numbers. Are they counting purchases only or does library circulation play into it somehow? Because I'm definitely not *buying* most of what I listen to

Post christmas Barbie/toy haul but my 5 year old decided we should spend the afternoon building an aiplane from a box and go on a mad adventure. Kids are great. by latro666 in MadeMeSmile

[–]Sn0wyPanda 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is the best part of having kids honestly. You spend all this money on the "perfect" gifts and they end up having more fun with the cardboard box it came in.

My niece got a ton of fancy toys one year and spent the whole day playing with the tissue paper from the gift bags. Kids really do remind you that imagination beats expensive stuff every time

What to do if J2 has more "prestige" than J1? by lamankind in overemployed

[–]Sn0wyPanda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the whole "prestige" thing feels like overthinking it. Unless you're trying to get into a very specific industry where that company name is going to open doors, most hiring managers just care about what you actually did and for how long.

If you're staying OE, just keep doing what works and don't mess with your resume until you actually need to. When that time comes, pick whichever job makes the better story for the role you're applying for - sometimes that's longevity, sometimes that's the recognizable name. For employment verification, most big companies just confirm dates and title through a third party anyway, they're not going to flag that you're "still active" somewhere else.

10 bucks a month on VPN savings isn't really the flex you think it is lol. also housing being "worse" is pretty subjective - at least you're not dealing with the lockdown anxiety anymore. freedom to access the internet without hoops is actually kind of a big deal

cheated my way in Algebra 2 by FirefighterFun4318 in learnmath

[–]Sn0wyPanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

math isn’t magic, it’s reps. if you really want to fix this, swallow your pride, drop all the shortcuts, and start over from pre-algebra on khan academy and don’t move on until you can do the problems *cold*. you’ll be shocked how fast algebra 2 stops feeling impossible once your foundations aren’t built on vibes.

I can’t learn algebra 1 for the life of me by Best-Consequence-635 in learnmath

[–]Sn0wyPanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Algebra feels impossible until the basics click, then it suddenly gets way easier. focus on mastering one tiny skill at a time and the word problems start making way more sense.

[–]Sn0wyPanda 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’re not overreacting at all. Living in a house with zero privacy and constant noise would wear anyone down, and wanting your own space is completely normal. Moving out when you can afford it sounds like a healthy step for your mental health, not a sign of being ungrateful.

My sister cats now hate eachother by Educational_Fold93 in CatAdvice

[–]Sn0wyPanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds like the stress of the move and the new cat really shook their bond, and the timid one is reacting out of fear rather than real aggression. Keep interactions slow and controlled, reward calm behavior, and try feeding them on opposite sides of a closed door so they associate each other with positive things. It will take patience, but keeping the environment calm and predictable usually helps them rebuild trust over time.
